Liam Payne's Netflix show releases trailer in late One Direction star's last project
Netflix has unveiled a release date and first look trailer for new talent show Building The Band, featuring the late Liam Payne as a judge alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland
Netflix has released a teasing snippet trailer and release date for its upcoming show Building The Band, which will feature the late Liam Payne as a guest judge. The show was filmed just months prior to the star's tragic passing.
The programme adopts a Love Is Blind style format, where singers audition for each other and select their bandmates without laying eyes on them first. The The late One Direction star will be seen on the judging panel alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland.
A number of other guest judges will also make appearances. The trio, along with host AJ McClean, filmed the show in the summer of last year (2024), just months before Liam Payne's sad death which saw an outpour of heartbreak across the nation.
Netflix had initially postponed the show's release as producers and family members deliberated over Liam's participation in the series. However, with a confirmed release date of July 9 now set, it appears they have decided to proceed with his involvement.
The show is scheduled to air over three weeks, with two episodes being released weekly on July 9, July 16 and July 23, reports the Mirror. "Liam Payne's family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion," Netflix stated.
The streaming giant has now released a first look trailer for the new show. Netflix fans may find the setup familiar, with a similar resemblance to the pods from popular reality dating show Love Is Blind.
The trailer shows viewers catch a glimpse of aspiring musicians entering the pods, with Donzell stealing the spotlight. His fellow contestants are left in awe of his vocals as they tune in to form their ultimate band based on musical synergy, connection, chemistry, and talent.
The footage doesn't reveal Liam or any of the judges, or explicitly reference his participation in the programme. Liam's involvement was confirmed prior to his sad death in October last year, having been part of the production shot in Manchester back in August 2024.
Liam Payne tragically lost his life at the tender age of 31 in October last year following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After the heartbreaking news of Liam's death, his former One Direction colleagues issued a collective statement: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing."
They continued, "In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever."
The statement concluded "For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."

Sam Thompson reveals true feelings on Louis Tomlinson in awkward Soccer Aid interview
Sam Thompson reveals true feelings on Louis Tomlinson in awkward Soccer Aid interview The Made in Chelsea star and One Direction singer have come face to face at Soccer Aid training amid Zara McDermott drama Sam Thompson and Louis Tomlinson (Image: 2025 Mike Marsland ) Preparations for this year's Soccer Aid charity match have begun, with the England and World XI squads gathering for their training sessions before Sunday evening's clash at Old Trafford. The huge event has provided plenty of memorable moments over the years, with celebrities and former professional footballers coming together to raise tens of millions of pounds for UNICEF since its launch in 2006, all while sharing plenty of laughs and showing off their varied range of skills on the pitch. However, this year, there is set to be some awkwardness among the England ranks with squad members Sam Thompson and Louis Tomlinson coming face-to-face after a dramatic development in their respective romantic lives. In December last year, Made In Chelsea star and former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! champion Thompson split from his girlfriend of five years, Zara McDermott. Weeks later, McDermott - who rose to fame on the fourth series of Love Island in 2018 - went public with her new romance with One Direction star Tomlinson, with the pair since jetting off on romantic getaways to Costa Rica and Los Angeles. Thompson has insisted there are "no hard feelings" between him and Tomlinson, but all eyes were on the pair when they reported to Soccer Aid training earlier this week and came face-to-face. While Thompson has since been forced to miss out on playing in the big game after picking up a calf injury, he will still share the dressing room with Tomlinson after being handed a coaching role for the event. After the lineups for this year's charity match were announced, the 32-year-old was grilled by close friend and The Only Way is Essex star Pete Wicks in an awkward interview on their Staying Relevant podcast. Innocently asking about his friend's Soccer Aid preparations, Wicks said: "How are you feeling? You're playing again. Must be really exciting. Grinning, he then added: 'How do you feel about the line-up? Do you think you've got a strong team?' Thompson then awkwardly laughed and replied: "Got a really strong team.' However, Wicks pressed further and asked: 'Any kind of people in there who you're looking forward to playing with?' Continuing to dodge the question, Thompson tried to keep a straight face and said: "Loads. Tom Grennan. I'm really looking forward to playing alongside Wayne Rooney. Tyson Fury's the manager. I can't wait.' A smirking Wicks then added: 'I mean, that's gonna be f***** amazing. 'Make sure you get him on side though, because you may need him in your corner in case you fall out with anyone. Not that you will, but just in case there's any rivalries or anything. 'You know, you have to train together and it's a lot, you know, when you're kind of in close quarters with someone like that. All sorts gets brought up. Anyway…' As well as Tomlinson, the England team features ex-pros including Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Joe Hart as well as celebrities including Dame Denise Lewis, Bear Grylls and Sir Mo Farah. Article continues below Thompson will join an impressive coaching team made up of Wayne Rooney, Tyson Fury, David James and actress Vicky McClure. Meanwhile, former football stars Nemanja Vidic, Carlos Tevez and Leonardo Bonucci will all be in action for the World XI as they play alongside the likes of Martin Compston, Dermot Kennedy and Bryan Habana.

Louis' 'major change' at Trooping the Colour as Charlotte takes charge
Prince Louis charmed the crowds as usual during Trooping the Colour today - and one expert believes he showed signs of what his future could be Prince Louis showed off a major change at Trooping the Colour today - but still had Prince George and Princess Charlotte to keep him on track, according to an expert. The seven-year-old who has long delighted the crowds at major royal events thanks to his cheeky personality was back again charming royal fans. He was seen sweetly waving during the carriage ride with mum Kate and his siblings as well as flashing a toothless grin. He was also seen giggling with his big brother George as well as giving a lingering wave to the masses as the Royal Family left the Buckingham Palace balcony. And while charming spectators, body language expert Judi James believes he gave a glimpse into his potential future. She told the Mirror: "Prince Louis's body language on the balcony suggested he's grown from the playful member of the royal firm into a fully fledged plane-spotter. "He looked more focused than fidgety, watching each aircraft as they flew overhead before turning to his dad in what looked like an attempt to identify them. "The avid nods from William and the smiles of pride from Kate suggested he was correct with them all, too. With a father and grandad both pilots, there are signs this might be a future career for Louis. "He is also a very confident-looking young royal too. Charles nudged him to chat and Louis was the one lingering longest to wave to the crowds, only turning to go in when Charlotte ushered him." During the balcony moment, members could be seen chatting to each other as the planes flew over the palace. Spectators in The Mall cheered as the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team – the Red Arrows – flew overhead releasing colourful trails of red, white, and blue smoke. The force used a blend of sustainable aviation fuel and normal jet fuel for their engines, as well as a renewable biofuel for the smoke trails. The royal family waved one last time at the crowd before retreating back into the Palace. Meanwhile, Kate returned to a major Trooping the Colour duty alongside the King and Queen today. In her role as as Colonel of the Irish Guards she took her seat on the dais alongside the King and Queen to watch the spectacular military parade at Horse Guards Parade. Last year she sat upstairs in the Major General's office to watch the display with her children after marking her return to duty following the start of her cancer treatment. Today, Kate arrived at Horse Guards Parade today in an Ascot Landau carriage alongside her three children. She dazzled in a turquoise Catherine Walker coat dress, a hat by Juliette Botterill, her Irish Guards Regimental brooch and a pair of earrings that belonged to the late Queen before taking her seat on the parade ground. At last year's Trooping the Colour, Kate made a triumphant return, making her first official public appearance since she revealed she had received a cancer diagnosis.
