Mumbai ATC reports surge in traffic as flights avoid Pakistani airspace
Apart from handling Europe, North and South America-bound flights originating from Mumbai, the ATC is now also handling aircraft flying towards these regions from Northern India

Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC) has experienced a surge in traffic, after international flights were rerouted due to the closure of Pakistani airspace since last month, sources said.
Apart from handling Europe, North and South America-bound flights originating from Mumbai, the ATC is now also handling aircraft flying towards these regions from Northern India, the sources added.
Pakistan shut its airspace for Indian airlines on April 24 in response to India's diplomatic measures against the neighbouring country following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed at least 26 people.
On April 30, India also shut its airspace to Pakistan airlines as part of the retaliatory measure. On a normal day, Mumbai ATC handles between 950-970 arrivals and departures, including unscheduled flights, apart from some 2,000 flights overflying Mumbai skies, as per sources.
"Some 130 flights from Northern India for destinations in Europe, North and South America would take the Bhopal-Ahmedabad-Karachi route to Muscat, without touching Mumbai airspace, from where they would enter Europe. Now, after the closure of the Pakistani airspace, all these flights are coming to Mumbai airspace via Ahmedabad to enter Muscat," said a source.
In addition to this, according to sources, some 250 flights originating from South East Asia for the Middle East, Europe and South and North America are also now going via Mumbai (airspace) to avoid Pakistani airspace.
The traffic has also spiked on account of the recent closure of about 25 flight routes on Wednesday that allow planes to enter Pakistan through the Indian airspace, when the armed forces launched missile attacks on terror targets in Pakistan, as per sources.
"Some foreign airlines are now filing a revised flight plan, wherein they are flying via Mumbai (airspace) after the closure of these 25 routes," said the source, adding that even chartered flight operators flying internationally are avoiding Pakistani airspace due to the prevailing situation.
Against the backdrop of rising tensions between the two countries, many foreign airlines have been avoiding the Pakistani airspace.

Air India crash: The mortal remains of Gujarat's former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will be be handed over to his family and his last rites will be performed at 5 pm on Monday. According to news agency ANI, Rupani's mortal remains will be taken to Rajkot by air and reach there at 2 pm. The last rites will be performed at 5 pm with state honours. Vijay Rupani died in the Air India plane crash that happened on June 12 this year. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, killing 241 passengers and crew. Rupani's identity was confirmed through DNA testing, hospital authorities were quoted by ANI as saying. According to officials, Rupani's mortal remains will be received from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital at 11:30 am and transported to Rajkot by air, where it is expected to arrive by 2 pm. The final rites are scheduled to be performed at 5 pm. Rupani will be cremated in Rajkot later Monday with full state honours. The Tricolour is being brought to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Ahmedabad to be draped over his mortal remains. Around 2,000 kilograms of flowers will be used to decorate the hearse van that will carry the body of the former Chief Minister. Rushabh Rupani, son of former CM late Vijay Rupani, told ANI, ' This is a sad time not just for our family but also for the other 270 families.' He thanked police, Aarogya staff, Civil Defence, Fire Services and RSS workers for their rescue efforts during this incident. "I also express gratitude to PM Modi, CM Bhupendra Patel and other leaders for supporting and standing with not just our family, but also all other families. My father touched many lives during the 50-55 years of his political life. Today, all those people are standing by us. Many party workers from Punjab are also coming here to express their condolences...," Rushabh said. Meanwhile, Nimit Mishra, son-in-law of former CM late Vijay Rupani, said, 'These are extremely tragic times not just for us but for each and every one who has lost a loved one. We are finding it extremely difficult to go through these days. We are expressing overwhelming grief and agony.' "I would like to thank all those who have extended their support to as a family, would like to mention that we are thinking of each person who has lost a loved one and we would like to share your pain and grief. I would like to thank the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, the CM and state officials who have shared our pain...," he added.

Limassol: Highlighting India's rapid economic growth and vast potential at the India-Cyprus CEO Forum, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India has become the fifth-largest economy in the world today and is now on the path to becoming the third largest global economy soon. Addressing the India-Cyprus CEO Forum in Limassol on Sunday (local time), the Prime Minister said that introducing tax reforms with the implementation of GST, corporate tax and decriminalising several laws, his government has given prime importance to the ease of doing business apart from having a clear and stable policies. "Friends, you know very well that we have done tax reforms. One nation, one tax system has been introduced with GST. Corporate tax has been made. PM Modi Makes Historic First Visit To Cyprus, Gets Warm Welcome
Limassol (Cyprus): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday received a heartfelt and warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Limassol, as he arrived in Cyprus as part of his three-nation tour. PM Modi was seen being greeted by the diaspora with bouquets as he arrived at his hotel and the Prime Minister also engaged with the diaspora, exchanging greetings and acknowledging their support. It is the first-ever visit by an Indian PM to the Mediterranean nation. His arrival is being described as a historic moment by both Indian and Cypriot diplomatic sources. PM Modi, accompanied by a large delegation of around 100 officials, is visiting Cyprus at the invitation of President Nicos Christodoulides. Earlier, PM Modi was received with a ceremonial welcome at Larnaca International Airport by the President Christodoulides. "Landed in Cyprus. My gratitude to the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, for the special gesture of welcoming me at the airport. This visit will add significant momentum to India-Cyprus relations, especially in areas like trade, investment and more," PM Modi said in a post on X. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with the President of Cyprus. Key issues on the agenda include expanding cooperation in trade and investment, IT and innovation, defence, shipping, renewable energy, and people-to-people ties. Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on global and regional developments, including maritime security and the situation in West Asia. Ahead of his arrival, the Indian diaspora in Cyprus was brimming with excitement at PM Modi's much-anticipated visit. India and Cyprus have traditionally enjoyed strong diplomatic relations since the establishment of ties in 1962. Cyprus has consistently supported India's position on Kashmir and other key issues at international platforms, including the United Nations. Apart from official meetings, Prime Minister Modi is also expected to address and interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Cyprus. Although small in number, the Indian community plays a vital role in local education, healthcare, and business sectors. The pictures of his arrival in Cyprus were shared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his official X account. PM Modi was received and given a warm welcome at the airport by the Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides as well as Finance Minister Constantinos Kombos, reflecting the deep-rooted historic ties between the two nations. Cyprus, a member of the European Union is set to assume the 'rotating presidency' of the EU, early next year. PM Modi's visit is seen as part of India's consistent diplomatic outreach to Europe. After Cyprus visit, PM Modi will head to Canada to attend the G7 Summit and will then travel to Croatia for meetings with President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
