Stellar display helps Sical move up divisions

Winning 11 out of 11 matches may look like an easy task, but Sical did face some tough teams and tricky situations. 'Matches against RKS Cricket Club and IOB were quite challenging. We faced IOB in the match that decided the Zone championship. Star performers of the match were Kannan and Wafar with the bat, while V Subramania Siva and Akash Sumra stood out with the ball. We played the overall Third Division Championship catch against Bunts CC, with Tamil Kumaran and Sanjay playing key roles. The overall championship match was played at VB Nest grounds, so one needed to adapt to the conditions and the wickets. Our players adapted well,' he said.
Rathinam credited the team management for providing good coaches and excellent acilities for the boys to perform to their potential. 'Our coaches are Tamil Kumaran and Subramania Siva, and the support staff are Prabhakaran, Vasu, and Vairav. They helped the players to be in good shape and perform to their potential. Our team management held all the practice sessions at Madras Institute of Sports Academy, St. George School, in the heart of the city, and all players could practice easily,' he said.
Now they have set their sights on getting a promotion and bringing the team to the First Division with the long-term goal of winning the Raja of Palayampatti Shield. 'We are dedicated to working towards this goal. To strengthen the squad for higher competition, we need to evaluate and recruit additional talent. This could involve bringing in experienced players who have played in the Second Division or higher, as well as identifying emerging talent. We will provide the team with specialised training to improve essential skills for the next level of competition, such as fitness, match awareness, and mental toughness,'' he signed off.

Much Ado About Nothing! Ball-Tampering Allegations Against Ashwin Withdrawn

The Madurai Panthers withdrew their ball-tampering allegations against the R Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association announced on Wednesday that the Madurai Panthers have withdrawn their ball-tampering allegations against the R Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons. The Panthers had accused the Dragons of tampering with the ball using towels 'treated with chemicals" during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match on June 14 in Salem. 'After careful consideration, the management and coaching staff of SMP have decided to withdraw the complaint in the best interest of the sport and the smooth conduct of the tournament," said Prasanna Kannan, the TNPL CEO. 'They have further clarified that the complaint was not intended to bring disrepute to Mr. R. Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, the Dindigul Dragons team, the match officials, the TNPL, or the TNCA," he added. Kannan stated that with the Panthers withdrawing their complaint, there would be no further action on the matter. 'In light of this withdrawal, the matter is deemed closed and no further action shall be pursued," he said. Kannan mentioned that an internal committee of the TNCA thoroughly reviewed the complaint filed by the Panthers earlier this week but found no specific evidence. 'In accordance with the Operational Rules of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, TNCA reviewed the matter and communicated the procedural steps required for initiating a formal inquiry." 'The SMP was accordingly requested to submit specific evidence that would enable the constitution of a commission to examine the matter and determine any further course of action," he added. Ravichandran Ashwin, Dingul Dragons given clean chit in TNPL 2025 ball tampering row

R Ashwin was cleared of the ball tampearing accusation. New Delhi: Allegations of ball-tampering against Ravichandran Ashwin and his TNPL team, the Dindigul Dragons, made by the Seicham Madurai Panthers, have been dismissed. Following a June 14 match in Salem, the Panthers alleged that the Dragons illegally altered the ball using chemically treated towels. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), however, concluded its investigation without finding any supporting evidence of ball tampering. 'The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams,' the TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan said in a statement. 'The Playing Control Team-including umpires and the match referee-maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play, and no verifiable evidence has been provided. The claims appear speculative and post-facto in nature.' State cricket association-supplied towels were used to dry the ball when necessary, under the supervision of the umpires. The TNPL requested immediate verification from the Panthers to support their allegations. 'The allegation appears to be post-facto, speculative in nature and based solely on internal team communications without supporting evidence,' Kannan had written in his mail, which is in PTI's possession, to the Panthers. Kannan reported that the umpires and match referee did not file any complaints regarding the game, either during or after its conclusion. 'The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams. The Playing Control Team, including umpires and the match referee, maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match,' he had said. An internal committee within the TNCA was established to address the matter. The chain of events started when Panthers CEO Mahesh S wrote to TNPL claiming 'blatant' ball tampering by defending champions Dragons. Mahesh's letter requested a TNPL investigation into the origin of the towels. The Dragons cricket team achieved a decisive nine-wicket victory over the Panthers at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground. The Panthers scored 150 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20-over innings. Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 27 runs. Despite opening the batting, he scored 49 runs from 29 balls as his team, the Dragons, successfully reached their target in 12.3 overs.

R Ashwin & Dindgul Dragons Cleared Of Ball-Tampering Allegations In TNPL

Last Updated: Ravichandran Ashwin and the Dindigul Dragons were cleared of ball-tampering charges by the TNCA after the Madurai Panthers accused them of using chemically treated towels. Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and the Dindigul Dragons, the team he captains in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), have been exonerated of ball-tampering charges raised by the Madurai Panthers. The Panthers accused the Dragons of using towels 'treated with chemicals" to tamper with the ball during a match on June 14 in Salem. However, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) found no evidence of ball-tampering. 'The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams," stated TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan. He added, 'The Playing Control Team, which includes umpires and the match referee, maintained full oversight of the ball throughout the match. No concerns were raised during play, and no verifiable evidence has been presented. The claims appear speculative and post-facto in nature." The towels were provided by the state cricket association to dry the ball if it became wet, and the drying process occurred in the presence of the on-field umpires. The TNPL requested the Panthers submit proof to 'substantiate" their allegations. Kannan noted that the accusation seemed speculative, based solely on internal team communications without supporting evidence. Kannan emphasised that no complaint was lodged by the on-field umpires or the match referee during or after the match. 'The towels in question were TNCA-issued and equally available to both teams," he reiterated. An internal committee was formed by the TNCA to discuss the issue. The controversy began when Panthers CEO Mahesh S wrote to the TNPL, claiming 'blatant" ball tampering by the defending champions, the Dragons. He also requested the TNPL leadership to investigate the source of the towels. In the match at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground, the Dragons defeated the Panthers by nine wickets. The Panthers scored 150 for 8 in 20 overs, while Ashwin went wicketless, conceding 27 runs in his four overs. However, he contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 49 runs off 29 balls as an opener, leading the Dragons to chase down the target in 12.3 overs.
