Lucid joins Tesla and GM with hands-free highway driving

Fox News25-07-2025
Lucid Motors is about to make highway driving a lot more relaxing.
The electric vehicle startup is rolling out a major upgrade to its driver-assistance technology, placing it squarely alongside Tesla and GM in the growing hands-free driving market.
Starting July 30, Lucid Air owners who opted for the DreamDrive Pro package will have access to an over-the-air update unlocking two key features:
The update launches first for the Lucid Air sedan, with the upcoming Gravity SUV getting these features later this year.
DreamDrive Pro combines advanced hardware and intelligent software to power Lucid's driver-assistance system. It uses 32 integrated sensors, including LiDAR, radar, visible-light and surround-view cameras and ultrasonic sensors. This setup delivers precise environmental awareness for everything from highway cruising to close-range maneuvers.
Because the platform is software-defined, Lucid can roll out new features like hands-free highway driving and automated lane changes through over-the-air updates. Drivers receive continuous improvements without needing hardware upgrades or service appointments.
These updates are just the beginning. Lucid is investing heavily in advanced driver-assistance and automation, with a clear focus on safety, comfort and long-term innovation.
Lucid now joins the ranks of top hands-free driving systems. Tesla's Full Self-Driving and GM's Super Cruise both offer hands-free driving on highways, though they differ in how they monitor driver attention and what roads they support. Ford's BlueCruise is another major option, available on a growing number of mapped highways. Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot goes a step further by letting drivers take their eyes off the road in certain traffic conditions, though it's only available in limited markets for now.
If you're driving a car with advanced driver-assistance features, such as the Lucid Air or similar models, you're likely noticing real changes in your daily routine. With hands-off driving now available on select highways, those stressful commutes can feel a little easier. Sitting in stop-and-go traffic doesn't have to be such a chore anymore. Long road trips? Suddenly, they're much more comfortable. Many automakers, not just Lucid, are pushing out updates directly to your car, so you can access new tools without ever stepping into a service center.
Safety is at the forefront with these new systems. As you drive, a network of sensors and smart software helps keep your lane changes smooth, your following distances steady and your ride free from abrupt surprises. These advances can give you peace of mind, but it's essential to remember that these systems don't drive for you. You still need to stay alert and keep your hands ready.
With more cars using similar technology each year, the roads themselves are changing. There's hope that fewer accidents caused by distraction or delayed reactions will benefit not just tech-savvy drivers, but everyone out there. While these models, like the Lucid Air, showcase what's possible, the real transformation comes as driver-assistance features become the new normal in cars everywhere.
Lucid's new hands-free driving update puts it in direct competition with Tesla, GM, and other automakers working to change the way we drive. With DreamDrive Pro, Lucid shows that combining advanced hardware, in-house software, and frequent updates can deliver real capability. As more companies roll out similar systems, drivers are getting more options, and the convenience once reserved for luxury models is becoming more accessible.

Is Google Messages crashing for you? You're not alone.

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Some Google Messages users report that they're unable to open the app as it keeps crashing. Affected users say they can only reply to a text if someone messages them first or if they go into their contacts menu. One workaround is to uninstall the latest Messages update and then reinstall it. Google Messages is the built-in messaging platform for millions of users worldwide. Unfortunately, some users are experiencing a rather serious issue with the app. Some Google Messages users on Reddit (h/t: 9to5Google) report that the app keeps crashing. Affected users noted that they couldn't open the Google Messages app (version dynamic) without it crashing. 'I can reply to texts via notification and bubble, but if I open the app itself, everything crashes,' said user @snuggle92. 'I literally can't use my text messages unless someone texts me first or I go into my contacts and it's so frustrating because I refuse to use the Samsung messaging app!' said user @gabbydawn26. The issue isn't restricted to a specific carrier or device manufacturer, either. Google Pixel, Samsung, and Motorola users on Fido, Google Fi, T-Mobile, and Verizon have all chimed in to report the problem. One user noted that they fixed the issue by installing the beta version of the app, leaving the beta program, and then returning to the regular version. However, other users said this didn't address the problem. Users also said that clearing the app's cache didn't work. However, some people report that they fixed the problem by uninstalling the latest Messages update and then reinstalling it. So it's definitely worth trying the latter workaround if you're one of the affected users. In any event, we've asked Google to clarify the issue and if there's a timeline for a fix. We'll update the article if/when the company gets back to us. Follow

Why is Trump calling on the CEO of Intel to resign?

President Trump called on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign on Thursday, prompting a slide in the technology company's stock. "The CEO of Intel is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately," Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social, without providing additional details. "There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!" Intel did not immediately respond to CBS MoneyWatch's request for comment. Its shares slipped 64 cents, or 3%, to $19.77 on Thursday. The president's call for Tan's resignation comes after Sen. Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, sent a letter to Intel Chairman Frank Yeary on Tuesday expressing concern over Tan's investments and ties to Chinese businesses. "Mr. Tan reportedly controls dozens of Chinese companies and has a stake in hundreds of Chinese advanced-manufacturing and chip firms," Cotton wrote in the letter. "At least eight of these companies reportedly have ties to the Chinese People's Liberation Army." Cotton went on to mention Cadence Design Systems, the multinational tech company where Tan served as CEO from 2009 to 2021, and which pleaded guilty last week to unlawfully exporting its products to a Chinese military university and transferring its technology to an associated Chinese semiconductor company without obtaining licenses. "These illegal activities occurred under Mr. Tan's tenure," Cotton wrote. The senator asked Yeary to respond to a series of questions on Tan's ties to the Chinese companies by Aug. 15. Tan, a technology investor and veteran of the semiconductor industry, was appointed as CEO of Intel in March. Outlook for Hot US Temps Boosts Nat-Gas Prices

September Nymex natural gas (NGU25) on Wednesday closed up +0.067 (+2.23%). Sep nat-gas prices on Wednesday settled sharply higher for a second day on forecasts for hot temperatures over the next week and into mid-August that would boost nat-gas demand from electricity providers to meet demand for increased air-conditioning. Forecaster Atmospheric G2 said Wednesday that forecasts shifted warmer for much of the US for August 11-15 and shifted warmer over the eastern two-thirds of the country for August 16-20. Nat-gas prices also garnered support Wednesday from expectations for a smaller-than-normal build in weekly nat-gas supplies. The consensus is that Thursday's weekly nat-gas inventories rose +9 bcf for the week ended August 1, below the five-year average for the week of +29 bcf. On Monday, nat-gas prices sank to a 3.5-month low on higher US nat-gas production and the outlook for even higher output in the near term. Baker Hughes reported last Friday that the number of active US nat-gas drilling rigs in the week ending August 1 rose by +2 rigs to a 2-year high of 124 rigs. Lower-48 state dry gas production on Wednesday was 107.9 bcf/day (+5.0% y/y), according to BNEF. Lower-48 state gas demand on Wednesday was 76.9 bcf/day (-6.8% y/y), according to BNEF. Estimated LNG net flows to US LNG export terminals on Wednesday were 16.1 bcf/day (+20.4% w/w), according to BNEF. An increase in US electricity output is positive for nat-gas demand from utility providers. The Edison Electric Institute reported Wednesday that total US (lower-48) electricity output in the week ended August 2 rose +0.9% y/y to 99,367 GWh (gigawatt hours), and US electricity output in the 52-week period ending August 2 rose +2.7% y/y to 4,259,351 GWh. Last Thursday's weekly EIA report was bearish for nat-gas prices since nat-gas inventories for the week ended July 25 rose +48 bcf, above the consensus of +41 bcf and the 5-year average of +24 bcf for the week. As of July 25, nat-gas inventories were down -3.9% y/y, but were +6.7% above their 5-year seasonal average, signaling adequate nat-gas supplies. As of August 4, gas storage in Europe was 70% full, compared to the 5-year seasonal average of 78% full for this time of year. Baker Hughes reported last Friday that the number of active US nat-gas drilling rigs in the week ending August 1 rose by +2 to a 2-year high of 124 rigs. In the past ten months, the number of gas rigs has risen from the 4-year low of 94 rigs reported in September 2024.
