Forecasters reported that parts of Florida, southern Georgia, and Alabama could see up to 10 inches of rain – around two months' worth – by the time the storm passes. Parts of the Carolinas and South Florida have been placed under flood watch and some areas are already experiencing their heaviest rainfall since Hurricane Helene struck in September last year.
Heavy downpours across multiple US cities
According to USA Today, eastern North Carolina had recorded two to four inches of rain by Monday afternoon. This prompted flash flood warnings since there was a threat of creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses flooding, National Weather Service in Morehead City said.

Airports, power lines affected in several regions
The deluge resulted in power outages for over 20,000 homes and businesses across Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Florida alone had reported more than 9,500 outages, especially in the Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Airport operations were hit because of the storm, with more than 40 flights at Miami International Airport being cancelled and 160 others getting delayed. The FAA reported that flights operated with an average delay of 90 minutes with potential ground stops in Tampa, Miami, and Atlanta.
Storm system slowly moves north of US
According to the weather department, the storm system is slowly moving northward, and will continue to cause rains in Virginia, West Virginia, and parts of North Carolina through midweek. Meanwhile, dry conditions are forecast by Wednesday. However, flooding risks have remained high since rivers which are already swollen continue to rise.
South Carolina's Congaree River will likely peak at moderate flood stage later this week, with the Pee Dee River in North Carolina potentially to follow by the weekend. Hydrologists are warning that actual flood predictions are unlikely to catch additional rainfall coming on the way.

In spite of the disruption from the storm, meteorologists observe that non-flooding rain will relieve some drought in Florida, which has experienced one of its driest beginning to a growing season in more than 10 years. When the storm departs, the area could experience a dry period of 7 to 10 days.
FAQs:
Q1. Which are the most impacted states by the storm?
A1. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, and portions of Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia have been hit hardest, with flash flood alerts and heavy rain reported throughout these states.
Q2. Will the risk of flooding persist throughout the week?
A2. Yes. While the storm will begin to weaken by midweek, continued rains and already-saturated soil mean rivers can keep rising, threatening flooding well into the weekend.

Water levels of Ganga, Yamuna rise sharply, relief op continues
1 2 Prayagraj: The water levels of Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Prayagraj rose sharply on Sunday, flooding both rural and urban areas and affecting over 1.5 lakh families. By Sunday morning, floodwaters reached 16 villages and seven city neighbourhoods. However, a marginal decline was recorded in water levels by Sunday afternoon, offering slight but crucial relief to local authorities who continue their flood management efforts under high alert. As per official data, on Sunday morning at 8:00am, the Yamuna at Naini surged by 56 cm to 83.19 meters—just 1.5 meters below the danger mark of 84.734 meters. The Ganga at Phaphamau stood at 83.06 meters, having risen by 45 cm, while at Chhatnag and Buxi STP, it reached 82.41 and 82.90 meters, respectively. However, by 4:00pm on Sunday, there was a notable decline: Yamuna at Naini dipped to 82.86 meters, and Ganga levels showed mixed readings—Phaphamau increased slightly to 83.09 meters (+1 cm), while Chhatnag and Buxi STP saw minor decline of 4 cm and 9 cm, respectively. By Saturday evening, two relief camps in Sadar Tehsil—Annie Besant Relief Camp and Cantt Marriage Hall—provided shelter to 50 people (36 and 14 respectively). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 15 most beautiful women in the world Undo With more areas submerged, these numbers are expected to rise significantly. The looming threat of water breaching homes remains especially high in low-lying areas like Baghdara, Salori, Beli, Rajapur, and Ashok Nagar. Abhishek Yadav, a resident of Baghdara, shared that he packed his essentials, fearing his house would soon be submerged. Local officials are conducting inspections in the worst-hit areas. SDM Abhishek Kumar Singh visited Daraganj, Salori, and Rajapur on Saturday, urging early evacuation. ADM (Finance and Revenue) Vinita Singh also visited flood-prone areas during Jan Sunwai and encouraged locals to stay prepared. Among the worst-affected neighbourhoods are Baghdara, Ganganagar, Nevadha, Dhrariya, and Beli Kachar. Rural areas such as Meja (Jharihari, Isota, Nawai, Chilbila, Bakasandi), Karachna (Bhagesar). Several locations in Sadar Tehsil (Kachamau, Tareiya, Rajapur, Abdullapur, Beli Kachar, and Uparhar) are also flooded. District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar assured that relief efforts are in full swing. NDRF, SDRF, and civil defence teams are on the ground rescuing people via boats. In the Badra Sonoti region, 11 boats are ferrying residents after road connections were submerged. Although water rise slowed down—particularly the Yamuna which declined 8 cm between 8:00am and 4:00pm on Sunday—experts warn the danger isn't over. Further rainfall upstream may trigger a new wave of flooding. The irrigation department reported controlled releases of 46,000 cusecs from Bhuraghat Barrage and 80,000 cusecs from Ken Barrage, expected to reach Prayagraj by Sunday night. Executive Engineer Digvijay Narayan Shukla said that while release rates decreased, significant pressure remains on both rivers. However, receding water in the Tons River may help alleviate the situation slightly. In light of these developments, officials remain on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and urging the public to prepare for possible evacuations if condition worsen.

At 33.5mm rainfall so far, Indore sees driest July in decade
1 2 3 4 Indore: With only 33.5 mm of rainfall recorded in the first 20 days of this month, Indore is witnessing its driest July in the last ten years. The city, which typically receives over 300 mm of rainfall in this peak monsoon month, is trailing far behind its seasonal average. Daily rainfall records show minimal precipitation, with several days logging barely 0.1 or 0.4 mm and only one day seeing a notable 10.4 mm. The city recorded no rainfall in the last five days till Sunday. The deficit becomes more striking when compared to previous years. Last year, July brought 454.7 mm of rainfall. In 2022, the figure stood at 359.8 mm, while 2021 and 2020 recorded 175.2 mm and 191.1 mm respectively. Even in years considered relatively dry, like 2017 and 2018, the monthly totals reached 247.9 mm and 239.7 mm, more than seven times what the city has received so far this year. July rainfall has never dipped this low in the past decade. Sunday morning in Indore began with bright sunshine and clouds hovered intermittently without bringing any meaningful showers. Saturday was the hottest day of the month, with the temperature touching 32 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal. On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 30.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 22.2 degrees Celsius, and humidity hovered around 87% in the morning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo Met officials attribute the dry spell to the current positioning of the monsoon trough and depression, which remain far from Madhya Pradesh. No major rainfall activity is expected in Indore over the next four days. Uunless a western disturbance becomes active, chances of substantial rain remain low, said weather scientist Arun Sharma. There may be some relief in sight by end of the month. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, which could influence rainfall patterns in central India if it intensifies and moves westward. With ten days still left in the month, hopes persist, but the rainfall shortfall has already made July 2025 the driest in a decade.
