And it is set to welcome its first 100 residents this autumn.
Residents will have a few months of tranquility before the city opens to tourists - dubbed 'Weavers' - from 2026 "or later", according to Toyota.
These individuals will mostly be Toyota staff and their families, before branching out to include "external inventors" and their loved ones.
The total population is expected to reach around 2,000.

At the base of the Mount Fuji volcano in Japan, the development will host a range of top-secret tests for new technologies, according to reports.
While normal civilians will also call this robot city home, so shall Toyota's employees - who will be conducting experiments for some of the company's more hushed ideas.

First announced at CES 2020, the Woven City is now just months away from accepting its first residents.
The futuristic city will act as a "living laboratory" for the company to test its renewable and energy-efficient self-driving cars dubbed 'E-palettes'.
Toyota's E-palettes, an autonomous electric vehicle platform initially developed for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, will be at the core of the project.
Self-driving cars will be the main form of transport inside the Woven City, according to Toyota, supported by an underground network for autonomous logistics and goods delivery vehicles.

Streets will be split into three types, pedestrian-only areas, roads for fast-moving traffic and streets for a mix of lower-speed vehicles.

Only zero-emissions motors will be allowed with special vehicles for the elderly and support for wheelchair users.
Smart homes will be designed to incorporate robotics and AI to monitor health and manage energy use.

Stena Line invests £17m to futureproof sea routes linking England and Ireland
STENA LINE has announced a £17m investment at a Liverpool port which operates busy sea routes between England and Ireland. The Swedish ferry company's investment will support developments at the 12 Quays Terminal in Birkenhead to futureproof the operations by increasing freight parking capacity and improving traffic flow. In February 2024, Stena Line launched a new Liverpool – Dublin freight only service, which has brought a significant increase in freight traffic through the terminal. To support the increase the firm has already created an additional 200 freight parking spaces, which has boosted capacity for unaccompanied freight in the port by almost 30 per cent. 'Last year was a record year for Stena Line in Birkenhead with over 315,000 freight units moving through the port, an increase of 20 per cent year on year,' the firm said. 'The expansion will significantly improve operational efficiency and customer experience with more space for freight customers to drop unaccompanied trailers,' they added. The next phase of the project will be a reconfiguration of the front of house operations to improve health and safety and traffic flow to ease congestion. Stena Line currently operates two routes from the 12 Quays Terminal, the Liverpool – Dublin and the Liverpool – Belfast route, which is a popular service for travel and freight alike. In 2021 and 2022, the company invested in two state-of-the-art E-Flexer vessels, Stena Edda and Stena Embla. Since the introduction of the two ships, travel volumes have doubled. Stena Forwarder also operates a freight only service with one round trip per day to Belfast and Bore Song operates one round trip to Dublin each day. 'The significant growth of our services through 12 Quays in Birkenhead has created operational challenges with an increase in unaccompanied freight and traffic build up,' Andrew Kane, Regional Port Operations Manager, Stena Line said. 'With the potential for further growth, we are futureproofing the port with 200 additional freight parking spaces to ensure that we can facilitate our customers' needs and we are sure this expansion will be welcomed by the market,' he added. 'The reconfiguration of the lanes and car parking at the entrance to the port will also improve traffic flow, operational efficiency and health and safety for our customers and staff. 'We're delighted to open our new freight parking facilities and we expect the remainder of the project to be completed by early next year.' Phil Hall, Port Director Mersey at Peel Ports Group, said: the ongoing enhancements at the 12 Quays Terminal are 'improving facilities to support continued growth, ensuring that both passenger and freight customers enjoy the highest level of service'. A TOP Apple executive has revealed the best new tricks coming to your phone later this year – and there's a bonus upgrade for drivers too. The company dished out Apple is locked in a gadget arms race with the likes of Google and Amazon – but Joz reckons Apple's strategy isn't 'late'. It's just different. 'Our strategy really is a bit different than what some other are doing,' Joz told us. SMARTER PHONE Joz explained that the whole point is that the apps and systems work better without gadget owners 'even always knowing that they're going to Apple Intelligence debuted last year, adding the ability to create your own custom emoji, get help rewriting text, and generate images from scratch. Some of the showy AI-supercharged Siri upgrades that were promised still haven't arrived yet – but a lot of the best AI tricks are meant to just quietly work without you noticing. 'And again, you didn't have to go on an Apple Intelligence app to make that happen. 'It's just the experience is better.' He went on: 'We can recognise: we know you're on hold music. Do you want us to help you here? 'We can put you on hold and we can take care of it from there.' These tricks are coming in the It's a free upgrade that'll roll out to millions of iPhone models . 'But we all get spam, whether it's in our messages or our phone calls. And we're always looking for ways to deal with this. 'And here's yet another one – and hopefully a pretty effective one.' Joz also points out that the current line-up of AI tricks is just the beginning. Apple rarely talks about the future – but Joz teased plans to introduce significant AI upgrades for years to come. 'This isn't something that we do for one, two, three years,' he told us. 'This is the kind of thing we'll be working on for a decade, or decades, right? We're working on this for a long time because it's incredibly powerful stuff.' TALK TO ME! Senior Apple execs say the new icons and animations are so technically demanding, they wouldn't have been possible until recently. 'You're seeing content beneath this glass, this translucent glass, which reflects the light. All that is happening with no latency in real time,' Joz said. 'It's kind of an opportunity that comes around every decade or so. The last time we did this was 2013, so 12 years ago with iOS 7.' He added: 'This one is, in a lot of ways, even more ambitious. 'It's a sigh of relief when you get in the car and you say: 'Oh my goodness, it has CarPlay. 23 CarPlay works using your iPhone – so the new features are coming as part of iOS 26 Credit: Apple 'You know automatically how to use everything – but it also has your content, which is great. 'You know how to use your maps, you want to listen to your music.' He added: 'Many people are like you – they wouldn't be a car without CarPlay.' 'It is by far the most popular phone projection system in a car,' Joz said. 'We worked very hard to minimise glance time and to make sure that you didn't have to take your eyes off the road for longer than a couple seconds to get something done. 'And to be able to do things with your voice as much as possible – and to create a very simple user interface. 'To your point, it has become incredibly important to our users." CarPlay is changing with iOS 26. For a start, it's getting the slick new Liquid Glass look. But you'll be able to use Tapbacks for messages to quickly react, widgets for your screen with important info, and Live Activities (like a sports score). Apple has also just (finally) debuted its next major version of CarPlay: CarPlay Ultra. 23 CarPlay Ultra is a souped-up version of CarPlay that also bundles in your car's instruments and controls Credit: Apple It's now available in new models from British motoring giant Aston Martin, but it's destined for more vehicles in the future too. 'We're also bringing out that next generation of CarPlay, which we just brought out for the first time about a month ago,' Joz told The Sun.
