Police officers in Phoenix, Arizona, discovered a newborn baby "clinging to life" after the child's mother died and the infant was left alone in the home for several days
A newborn baby who had been left alone for days without food or water has been rescued after her mother died.
Police discovered the infant 'clinging to life' during a welfare check at a home in south Phoenix, Arizona. Officers had responded to calls from neighbours worried because the mother had not been seen for several days.

Bodycam footage shows officers calling out from the yard before breaking down the door when there was no answer. Inside, they found a tiny baby wrapped in blankets lying next to the mother's lifeless body.

One officer gently placed the infant in a stroller before paramedics arrived to provide emergency care.

Phoenix Police reported that the mother was deceased, and the baby was severely dehydrated and critically ill. The infant was rushed to the hospital, described by investigators as 'visibly emaciated'.
Thankfully, police later confirmed the baby's condition has improved significantly, and the child is expected to survive.
Officers told Arizona Family that they had initially seen a woman inside the home who was unresponsive through a window.
Phoenix Police spokesperson Sgt. Brian Bower said: 'The mother passed away while the child remained curled up beside her on the bed. Doctors at the hospital later told us that if the officers had not acted so quickly, the baby might not have survived much longer.'

Bower praised the 'quick thinking and immediate actions of the officers, as well as the neighbours who noticed something was wrong and called for help'.
The newborn is now in the care of the Department of Child Safety, and police are investigating the cause of the mother's death.

The miraculous rescue in Phoenix comes shortly after a horrifying discovery in Madrid, Spain, where a newborn baby girl was found decapitated, sparking a police manhunt.
Medical reports confirmed the baby was born alive but was tragically killed at just five days old. Her remains were discovered in several plastic bags at a recycling centre in Loeches.
The gruesome crime has shocked the community, and Spanish authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The crime dates back to December 12 last year but tests have now revealed the terrible sequence of events. Dylan, a K-9 agent from the Central Cynological Service specialised in detecting biological remains, also participated in the investigations at the waste plant. The canine agent sniffed out several remains of the newborn in the area.

Mother arrested after newborn baby girl found decapitated and dumped in bin bags

Police have arrested a woman, reported to be a married mother with kids, after the harrowing discovery of a dismembered newborn baby at a rubbish tip by horrified workers A woman has been arrested following a major police investigation that was launched in the wake of a horrific discovery at a waste and recycling tip, where workers found the dismembered body parts of a newborn baby. The remains of a baby girl were found in several bin bags at the Loeches rubbish plant in Madrid in December, causing police to scour the site with sniffer dogs to locate the rest of the brutally murdered infant. ‌ In the wake of the tragic discovery, the country's Civil Guard launched 'Operation Natal' in an effort to track down the killer and "get justice" for the slain baby girl. ‌ Investigators tracked the several bin bags found containing the baby's remains to a specific area of the Spanish capital, the Vallecas neighbourhood. They also carried out DNA tests that identified the child's Latin American ancestry and pointed to the mother being around 40 years of age. On Tuesday, Spanish police arrested an Ecuadorian woman in Madrid, with officers seen searching her home in the Vallecas area. The suspect, who has not been named, was described locally as a married woman with children, according to Sun reports. The arrest comes over seven months after recycling workers made the awful find while working at the Loeches rubbish plant and the police launched their lengthy 'Operation Natal'. However, news of the baby's brutal murder only broke last week, when the Civil Guard launched an appeal for information from the public. They urged anyone with information about a woman around 40 who had been pregnant last year to come forward, while also detailing that the baby was born alive before suffering a '"violent death." "The investigations are still open, which is why citizen collaboration is requested for the total clarification of the criminal act. Anyone who could have any information of interest on the matter, contact the Civil Guard," said a spokesman. "From the investigations carried out so far, it has been possible to determine that the remains would correspond to a female baby and that she was born alive, there are indications that would point to her death being of a violent nature."

Mum arrested after decapitated and dismembered baby dumped in bin in Spain

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of decapitating her newborn baby and leaving her in a rubbish bin. The little girl was born alive and was just five days old when she was killed. Her body was found dismembered in plastic bags in a recycling plant in the village of Loeches on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain, last December. Officers arrested an Ecuadorian woman believed to be the baby's mother today, the Spanish news outlet En boca de todos reported. The suspect has not been named but has been described as a married woman with children. En boca de todos reported earlier that she was not in custody as she remains at her home while officers search it. Her house in the working-class Madrid neighbourhood of Vallecas is being searched by officers. The child she is accused of killing was discovered by a worker at the recycling plant on December 12, 2024. Investigators believe she was almost certainly killed with a knife and then dumped in garbage bags. Officers had been working on the theory that the baby's remains reached the plant's waste bins after being thrown into a container in the Vallecas neighbourhood close to the M-30 motorway. A sniffer dog called Dylan, specialised in detecting biological remains, also took part in the investigations at the waste plant. DNA tests on the newborn's dead body revealed that she was of Latin American origin. More Trending The Civil Guard, as part of Operation Natal, last week asked for the public's help in identifying a woman they estimated to be aged around 40 who had been pregnant during the last months of last year. A police spokesman said at the time: ''From the investigations carried out so far, it has been possible to determine that the remains would correspond to a female baby and that she was born alive. 'There are indications that would point to her death being of a violent nature. 'We are seeking the public's help in clarifying this criminal act and asking anyone who could have any information of interest to contact us.' Football club chairman held dying wife in his arms after horror jet ski crash

Debra Wright, 47, was riding a jet ski with her husband Chris when the collision happened at Los Toros beach in Manilva, Costa del Sol - and tragically died in his arms A Brit mum-of-four tragically died in her husband's arms after a horrific crash between a jet ski and a speedboat on a beach in Spain 's Costa del Sol. Debra Wright, 47, was riding a jet ski with her husband Chris when the pair were caught in the collision on Saturday evening at Los Toros beach in Manilva, just west of Estepona. The speedboat was allegedly driven by a friend of the couple, who reportedly failed a breath test after the crash. Chris, 52, chairman of Ashton Town FC, swam to his wife in the aftermath and cradled her as she slipped away. ‌ ‌ Debra, a primary school teaching assistant, was described by her heartbroken husband as 'the glue' of the family. In tribute, Chris said: 'My darling wife was a 47-year-old mother of four wonderful sons, Stuart, Jack, Josh and Leon and a nanny to seven beautiful grandchildren. 'She was an incredible sister and doting daughter. She was our compass, the glue to bind the family, an amazing woman whose glow would fill any room. She was so enigmatic, inspirational and loving. Our family will never be the same.' In a heartbreaking tribute posted to Facebook, Debra's son, Stuart McDonald, said: 'MUM… I never knew how much I needed someone until now, I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you just how much I loved you every single day. "You meant the world to me. You know I was never one for a Facebook post, but this is just for you. Sleep tight Mum, I miss you so much. Life will never be the same without you.' Paying tribute in another post, Debra's son Leon Wright said: 'Words can't describe how much I'm missing you right now. You were the life and soul of every party, I am so happy to be called your son and I couldn't have asked for anyone better to be my mum." ‌ The couple were riding the jet ski when it was struck from behind off Los Toros beach, a police source said. Spanish court officials said the speedboat driver was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and an alcohol-related offence after failing a breath test. According to local outlets, including Diario Sur, the reading on the breath test was not a high one. The man was reportedly released after a secret court hearing on Sunday, with the investigation still ongoing. He remains unnamed and has not been formally charged with any offence. Ashton Town FC, which is based in Greater Manchester and plays in the North West Counties League Division One North, said in a statement on Monday: 'It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that on behalf of Ashton Town FC we announce the tragic death of Debra Wright, the wife of Chris our Chairman who was tragically killed whilst on holiday in Spain on Saturday evening. 'Our family are in mourning at this sad time and we ask for time for Chris and his family and everyone at the club to be able to start to come to terms with this tragedy. 'RIP Debra, fly high sweetheart x.'
