Gold Prices Jump by EGP 120 After Israeli Strikes on Iran

Gold prices surged in both local and global markets during Friday's trading session, driven by strong demand for safe-haven assets following major Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets overnight.
In Egypt's local market, gold prices soared by EGP 120, with the price of 21-karat gold hitting EGP 4,850 per gram. On the international front, gold rose by $63 per ounce, reaching $3,446.
Other local gold prices were also on the rise: 24-karat gold recorded EGP 5,543 per gram, 18-karat stood at EGP 4,157, and 14-karat at EGP 3,234. The price of the gold pound climbed to EGP 38,800.
It's worth noting that gold prices had already risen by EGP 55 during Thursday's session, with 21-karat gold opening at EGP 4,675 and closing at EGP 4,730. Internationally, gold gained $30 on Thursday, moving from $3,353 to $3,383 per ounce.
This jump in gold prices came as no surprise, fueled by a rush for safe havens amid growing fears that escalating tensions in the Middle East could spiral into a wider regional conflict. Gold wasn't the only beneficiary — silver also saw gains, albeit more moderately — while oil prices spiked more than 7%, amid mounting concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
As trading floors heated up with buy orders, reports began circulating in the media about the deaths of several senior Iranian generals and nuclear officials, causing what was described as a paralysis in Tehran's command structure. Meanwhile, Israel announced that it was preparing for additional rounds of military strikes, further intensifying market anxiety.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump made a striking statement on his Truth Social platform, declaring, 'They're all dead now… the situation will only get worse!' He went on to urge Iran to 'make a deal before nothing is left of what was once the Persian Empire.'
From a macroeconomic perspective, these movements are taking place in an increasingly accommodative U.S. monetary environment. This week's Producer Price Index (PPI) data pointed to a slowdown in inflation, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve might cut interest rates in September. The core PPI slowed to 3% in May, down from 3.2% in April, while the Consumer Price Index (CPI) also reflected a similar easing — reducing fears of a renewed tightening cycle.
Central banks around the world are not standing on the sidelines. Estimates suggest that global central bank gold purchases may exceed 1,000 tonnes in 2025 — a clear signal of a structural shift in reserve management strategies.
Silver, for its part, has maintained its role as a rising defensive asset. Despite a slight dip today, it has posted its best multi-month performance since 2012, buoyed by dual demand drivers: safe-haven investment and robust industrial usage, particularly from the renewable energy and electric vehicle sectors.
All in all, gold and silver are reasserting themselves not merely as ornamental or savings instruments, but as real-time barometers of global sentiment. As the world recalibrates its risk pricing, safe-haven assets are once again taking center stage in investment decision-making — at a time when stability is desperately sought in the midst of geopolitical storms.

Iranian Revolutionary Guards announce missile strikes targeting 150 sites in Israel
The top advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Ahamd Vahidi, discussed the extensive missile strikes launched by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps against Israel on Friday evening, as part of a military operation code-named 'Promise of Truth III.' Vahidi explained that the highly precise operation targeted vital and strategic sites deep within Israeli territory and took place across multiple stages, according to what he announced in an interview broadcast on Iranian state television. The Iranian military official confirmed that the strikes included the Nevatim Air Base, which he described as one of the pivotal bases of the Israeli Air Force, where F-35, F-16, and F-15 fighter jets were stationed, in addition to cargo and refueling aircraft, command and control centers, and units specialized in electronic warfare. The attacks included the Israeli Ministry of Defense and some military industrial facilities used in the manufacture of weapons and military equipment targeting the people of the region, he said. Vahidi added that the attacks struck over 150 targets, which were identified in advance based on accurate intelligence and bombed with successive waves of missiles and drones, in an operation he called 'complex and carefully coordinated.' Vahidi also directly accused the US for the attack, asserting that, 'The Zionist entity would not have been able to carry out these attacks without direct American support.' The US President's statements following the Israeli strike confirm Washington's involvement in the operation, he said, explaining that America's forces participated in intercepting Iranian missiles and provided direct assistance to the Israeli army. Vahidi also revealed that some Israeli attacks on Iran were launched from Iraqi airspace and logistically funded by the US, which he called a blatant violation of regional sovereignty and direct participation in the aggression against his country. Is Egypt under threat from potential nuclear radiation from Iran?
The former head of the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority, Amgad al-Wakil, addressed concerns over whether any nuclear fallout from Iran could impact Egypt following Israel's assault on its nuclear facilities, RT reported. In a post on his Facebook account on Friday, Wakil explained that Iran is more than 2,200 kilometers away from Egypt, a vast distance that makes it extremely unlikely that any nuclear radiation would reach Egypt. The spread of nuclear radiation does depend on several factors, he noted, such as what type of incident caused the fallout, the amount of radioactive material released, and the direction and speed of the wind. 'All these factors make any impact on Egypt completely unlikely,' he said. Attack on Iran At dawn on Friday, Israel launched a comprehensive preemptive attack to strike Iran's nuclear program. The attack resulted in the deaths of prominent commanders, including the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri, and the Commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, alongside several nuclear scientists. According to the Israeli military, the strikes targeted Iran's Natanz nuclear facility and damaged 'The site's underground infrastructure, which contains a multi-story enrichment hall housing centrifuges, electrical rooms, and other support infrastructure.' Israel justified the attack based on intelligence information indicating that Iran was enriching enough uranium to produce 15 nuclear weapons. UN chief urges end to Iran-Israel escalation: ‘Peace and diplomacy must prevail' - Region
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Israel and Iran to halt their military attacks, warning against further escalation and urging a return to diplomacy.
