Knights confirm return of flying winger
Dom Young will be available for Newcastle's next NRL game after the Sydney Roosters finalised his protracted release from the club.
Young is expected to line up on the wing against the Dolphins this Saturday, days after playing against the Knights in a 12-8 win for the Roosters on the weekend.
The towering Englishman had been linked with a return to Newcastle for weeks after dropping down the pecking order at the Tricolours.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson had begun to prefer rookie Robert Toia and rugby convert Mark Nawaqanitawase in the backline this season.
In a year and a half at the Sydney club, Young never hit the heights he achieved across 51 games with Newcastle and now returns on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Young was seen embracing his Roosters teammates after fulltime of on Saturday night in a sign his time at the club was coming to an end, just 18 months into a four-year deal.
"Dom is a talented athlete and a great person," said Roosters head of recruitment Daniel Anderson.
"We thank Dom for his contributions to the Roosters and wish him all the best for the future."
The 23-year-old replenishes a 15th-placed Knights side that are struggling for attacking strike this season and have been severely depleted by injuries.
He looks likely to replace James Schiller in the starting line-up and reprise a formidable wing combination with Greg Marzhew.
In his last year at Newcastle, Young broke the Knights' club record for most tries in a season, scoring 25 as the side made it to the second week of the 2023 finals series.

Fremantle forward Patrick Voss insists he doesn't have a point to prove to Essendon, but he's tipping some argy-bargy when he comes up against his former teammates at Optus Stadium. Voss was selected by Essendon in the 2021 rookie draft but delisted at the end of 2023 without notching an AFL game. That was despite kicking 49 goals in 29 VFL games across 2022-23, which included winning the 2023 best and fairest award. Voss' energetic celebrations have become a big highlight among Fremantle fans. One of his exuberant hi-fives after kicking a goal earlier this season resulted in a poked eye to teammate Josh Treacy, who had to come off for treatment. He would have kicked 4.1 against North Melbourne if his final-quarter shot hadn't been touched on the line. It's in stark contrast to the 3.10 he kicked across the first four games of his AFL career. "Everyone's got a plan when they're having a set shot, and I thought my plan was pretty consistent," Voss said. "But then when you get in front of 50,000 people and you've missed two set shots and you're going in for your third, the plan goes out the window and you're not really sure if it's working too well. "Over the time I got suspended, there were three weeks where I did a bit of work with the consistency of the set shot kicking. "Now I've got a really clear focus, and I'm really confident in it."

NBL and WNBL HoopsFest returns with a twist
Basketball's HoopsFest will involve a joint round of NBL and WNBL regular-season games for the first time when it returns to Perth next summer. After opening the NBL season in September last year, with the WNBL still in its pre-season phase, the basketball showpiece has been shifted to a new January slot for the 2025/26 season. It will feature all NBL and WNBL teams from January 15-18, coinciding with school holidays. Matildas coach happy with emerging talent
New Matildas coach Joe Montemurro is encouraged by the 'generational change' that's occurring in the national women's squad ahead of next year's AFC Women's Asian Cup. Montemurro's Matildas' tenure officially started on Monday after his appointment as coach was announced earlier this month during Australia's two game-series against Argentina. The matches were the final games on Tom Sermanni's interim coaching stint, with an Australian squad minus a host of its star players – including Sam Kerr, Mary Fowler, Katrina Gorry, Ellie Carpenter and Hayley Raso – winning 2-0 and 4-1 in Melbourne and Canberra respectively. A host of fringe players – including Kahli Johnson, Amy Sayer, Jamilla Rankin, Leah Davidson and Bryleeh Henry – were given chances to prove themselves, with Montemurro happy with what he saw. 'The reality is there is a generational change,' the former coach of the female teams at Arsenal, Juventus and Lyon said. 'What we saw over the last few games is that there is an exciting group coming through. 'Part of my role is to make sure we have a level of sustainability through all the age groups. 'We have the opportunity to give players the opportunity to be part of the Matildas and give them every chance to ply their trade at the right level and at the highest level … (but) we need to find balance. It's not something we can do overnight.' A blend of experience and youth is expected in Montemurro's maiden Matildas squad for the upcoming games in Western Australia against Slovenia (June 26 and June 29), and Panama (July 5 and July 8). Montemurro promised a Matildas 'environment' that was 'safe, humble and honest'. 'That's the best starting point,' he said. 'It's a collective humility, it's a collective honesty and it's a collective selflessness.' However, any hopes that teenage midfielder Indiana Dos Santos had of being part of Montemurro's first squad have been dashed after the Sydney FC star ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her keen during a Future Matildas program last week. Dos Santos, 17, was awarded the A-League women's young footballer of the year prize. 'I believe in God's plan, even when I don't understand it,' Dos Santos wrote in a social media post. 'This journey won't be easy, but with the love and support I have around me I can accomplish anything.'
