Collector, SP visit LWE-hit village in Malkangiri
MALKANGIRI: Malkangiri collector Ashish Iswar Patil and SP Vinod Patil visited the Left Wing Extremism-affected Tulsi village under Mathili block bordering Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.
The duo along with Mathili BDO Pramod Behera and other officials inspected the progress of the ongoing road construction from Temurupally gram panchayat to Tulsi village.
The collector instructed the Rural Division-I officials and the executing agency to ensure that the under-construction culvert on the road is completed before the monsoon so that the Border Security Force (BSF) deployed in the area doesn't face communication disruptions during the rainy season.
Both the collector and SP engaged with the villagers on various local issues and assured them of continued government support. Ashish directed the Mathili block administration to ensure that benefits of all government schemes reach the village.
Tulsi village is a strategically important location due to its proximity to Chhattisgarh. The presence of BSF there aims to prevent the possible influx of Maoists from the neighbouring state.

Chhattisgarh: Bijapur Encounter Enters Third Day; Two More Maoists Neutralised
New Delhi: Two Maoists were reportedly neutralised on Saturday in the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in Bijapur's Indravati National Park, which has entered its third day, with security forces intensifying their efforts against insurgents in the dense forest region. However, official confirmation of their identity is awaited. Automatic weapons were recovered from the slain militants, further underscoring the intensity of the battle, sources said. In the past two days, security forces successfully eliminated Sudhakar, a Central Committee Member of the CPI (Maoist), who carried a bounty of Rs 1 crore on his head. His death marks a significant blow to the Naxal leadership. Alongside him, Bhaskar, a senior Maoist cadre with a cumulative bounty of Rs 45 lakh, was also killed. Bhaskar was also known as Mailarapu Adellu. He was a Special Zonal Committee member of the Telangana State Committee and served as the Secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem division. His elimination is considered a major success in the ongoing crackdown against Maoist insurgency. Mailarapu Adelu, known by his aliases Bhaskar, Jangu Dada, and Mahesh, was a prominent figure within the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation. Holding a pivotal role in the Telangana State Committee, he also served as the secretary of the Mancherial–Kumuram Bheem-Asifabad (MKB) divisional committee, an area of strategic importance for Maoist activities in the region. Bhaskar (53) hailed from Pochera village in Boath mandal, located in Telangana's Adilabad district. His influence extended beyond regional operations, as he was instrumental in shaping the Maoist movement's outreach and organisational structure within Telangana. The operation, which has seen fierce exchanges of gunfire, remains active, with security forces maintaining their positions in the area. Reports indicate that the encounter has been ongoing since Friday night, with intermittent firing from both sides. Meanwhile, in Dantewada, seven Maoists, including two with bounties on their heads, have surrendered to authorities. Among them are Juglu alias Sundum Kowasi and Dasha alias Burku Podiyam, each carrying a reward of Rs 50,000. Their surrender is seen as a positive development in the broader effort to dismantle Naxal influence in the region. The battle in Bijapur's Indravati National Park continues, with security forces determined to root out remaining insurgents. The operation has already resulted in the deaths of four Maoists, including two top commanders, and authorities remain vigilant as they push forward in their mission to restore stability in the region.

Activists alleged Maoist killings staged; Chhattisgarh police dismiss claim
Raipur: Civil rights activists and the Telangana civil rights association on Saturday alleged that Chhattisgarh police had taken Maoist leaders into custody in Bijapur and were killing them one by one in staged encounters. Police, however, dismissed the allegations, stating that all actions were lawful and carried out in strict accordance with operational protocols. This comes after the security forces killed senior leader of the banned CPI (Maoist) and a Central Committee member (CCM) Sudhakar in an encounter in the forests of Bijapur, and top Maoist leader Bhaskar in the Indravati National Park area in Bijapur on Thursday — two weeks after they gunned CPI (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju was gunned down in Narayanpur. A statement issued by the Telangana civil rights association on Saturday said that senior Maoist leaders, including CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member Sudhakar and Telangana State Committee member Mailarapu Adelu alias Bhaskar, were in police custody before being killed in staged encounters on Thursday and Friday respectively in the Indravati National Park area. Calling the allegation 'baseless', inspector general (IG) of police of Bastar Range Sunderraj P said, 'In strict adherence to the constitutional mandate and legal framework of the Republic of India, the security forces remain committed to safeguarding the lives, rights and properties of the native population in the region. All operational activities are conducted in accordance with the provisions of law, ensuring due process, restraint, and accountability at every stage.' The association also claimed that several other senior Maoist leaders — including Bandi Prakash, Indravati National Park area secretary Dilip, Maddeedu area secretary Seetu, Ramanna, Munna, Sunitha, Mahesh, and around ten others — remain in police custody and are at risk of being killed similarly. Body of second Maoist leader recovered from Bijapur site
Top Maoist leader Bhaskar was killed in an encounter with security forces in Indravati National Park area in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday and his body was recovered from the site of the operation on Friday, officials said. A statement from Bastar range inspector general of police Sunderraj P confirmed that the deceased was identified as Mailarapu Adelu who was popularly known by his alias Bhaskar, a top functionary of the CPI (Maoist)'s Telangana State Committee (TSC). Bhaskar also served as the secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division and held the rank of special committee member (SCM). The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF) and District Reserve Guard (DRG) as well as the CRPF's specialised unit CoBRA, Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj said. 'After the exchange of fire stopped, the body of a Naxalite along with one AK-47 rifle and other explosives, weapons, and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. Preliminary identification suggests the body is of Bhaskar alias Mailarapu Adellu, a special zonal committee (SZC) member of the Telangana State Committee (TSC) of the outlawed Maoists,' he said. 'Bhaskar, a resident of Adilabad district in Telangana, was the secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division of the TSC of Maoists. He carried a reward of ₹25 lakhs in Chhattisgarh and 20 lakhs in Telangana,' the IG added. This is the third big success in the past fortnight for security forces pushing relentlessly against the Naxals with the aim of ending the menace by March 2026. On Thursday, senior Maoist leader Narasimha Chalam alias Sudhakar, who had a bounty of ₹40 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in the same area, police said. On May 21, Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70) was neutralised by security forces in Narayanpur in Bastar region. 'With the killing of both Bhaskar and Sudhakar in back-to-back operations, we believe it is a significant setback for the Maoist presence in the region. The search for other cadres is still underway,' the IG added. According to Chhattisgarh police records, Bhaskar, 53, hailed from Pochera village under Boath mandal in Telangana's Adilabad district and belonged to the Scheduled Caste (Madiga) community. He discontinued his intermediate studies and was earlier engaged in agriculture. Bhaskar was married to Kanthi Lingavva alias Anitha, who was a Divisional Committee Member (DCM) in the same division and was killed in an encounter on December 22, 2022. Records claimed that Bhaskar was fluent in Telugu, Hindi, Gondi, and GothiKoya and was known to carry an AK-47. Since January last year, more than 403 Maoist cadres have been neutralized so far in the Bastar division in separate encounters, according to government figures. Sundarraj reiterated the appeal to Maoist cadres to surrender. 'We are committed to restoring peace and development in the region,' he said.
