Dallas Police Ask Public's Help Finding Robbery Suspect

Yahoo3 hours ago

The Dallas Police Department is asking residents to help find a robbery suspect.
Dallas police are seeking the public's help finding 29-year-old Donavan Spearman, the department posted on Facebook. Spearman is wanted for an aggravated robbery in South Dallas on April 5. Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for his arrest.
Police responded to a 'robbery in progress' near 1500 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. on April 5 at 2:50 p.m., said Officer Luis Mata to The Dallas Express.
'The preliminary investigation determined that two known suspects robbed an individual at the location,' Mata said. 'One of the suspects was located and arrested.'
Spearman was last seen near the location of the robbery, according to Mata. He said this is an 'ongoing investigation.'
'At this point, we have no reason to believe Spearman is tied to any organized crime,' Mata said. 'Spearman does have a criminal history, however, as of now, we are just concerned with the aggravated robbery offense.'
Dallas police could not immediately confirm if he was the same suspect, but officers arrested a Donovan Spearman, with a history of dealing drugs, in 2018 for killing a man in Dallas, according to The Dallas Morning News. Court records show the man was convicted of murder.
Members of the public should call 911 if they see Spearman, according to Mata. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 158 lbs.
Anyone with information about Spearman's whereabouts can also contact Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers will 'pay for information' leading to his arrest and indictment for 'this and other felony offenses.'

Calumet City man sentenced to nearly 6 years for 2023 armed robbery of mail carrier in Harvey, Illinois

A United States District Court judge in Chicago sentenced a man to nearly six years in federal prison for assaulting and robbing a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier in Harvey, Illinois, in 2023. Malik Washington, 26, of Calument City, pleaded guilty earlier this year to a federal robbery charge. According to the United States Attorney's Office Northern District of Illinois, Washington approached the carrier on Oct. 23, 2023, and asked them for rubber bands. He then attempted to grab a box from the carrier's bag, but the carrier pulled away. The office said Washington pulled out a semi-automatic handgun from his sweatshirt and pointed it at the carrier's stomach and demanded their postal key, to which they complied. He then ran from the area. Authorities arrested Washington four days later and recovered the stolen key. Washington was sentenced on Tuesday to years and 10 months in federal prison.

Mourners Stream Into Minnesota Capitol as Assassination Victims Lie in State

Elected officials and everyday Minnesotans streamed into the white-domed State Capitol on Friday to pay their respects to State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were fatally shot at their suburban Minneapolis home this month. At one point, a line of mourners stretched around the block outside the Capitol in St. Paul as people slowly passed through the rotunda to mourn the Hortmans, who were lying in state in wooden caskets adorned with floral arrangements. An urn for their dog, Gilbert, who was also killed in the attack, was displayed alongside photographs. The authorities have described the killing of Ms. Hortman, a Democrat who previously served as speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, as an assassination. The suspect in the couple's deaths appeared briefly in federal court on Friday. At the Capitol, Gov. Tim Walz and his wife Gwen were the first to approach the caskets. Mayor Melvin Carter of St. Paul wiped tears from his eyes as he passed. Lisa Demuth, the Republican speaker of the State House, was also among the first to pay respects. Dozens of Capitol workers stopped by, some crying or exchanging hugs on the building's steps as they left. Nearby, inside the House chamber, a picture of Ms. Hortman was displayed on her desk alongside a vase holding flowers. As mourners lined up outside the building, some carried bouquets or were accompanied by their dogs. Hours after the procession started, hundreds of people remained in line. Anna Richey, a former Capitol staff member, said she had crossed paths with Ms. Hortman frequently. 'She was as real as she was tough as she was empathetic,' Ms. Richey said. Outside, Faith Mainor said, 'I'd like to see some scaling back of the dialogue that led to this.' And Amy Schulte held flowers and a dog toy that she planned to leave in the rotunda as a tribute to the Hortmans. 'I just felt like it was just a senseless death, just violent, indescribable,' said Ms. Schulte, a Minneapolis resident. Mike Starr arrived hours before the Capitol doors opened. He said he had met Ms. Hortman years ago when he was running for office, and felt it was important to honor her. The shootings, he said, had left him with a series of questions: 'Why? What for? How come?'

Watch police rumble ruthless gangsters who supplied 'assassination kits' in Midlands

This is the moment police officers rumbled a major weapons gang supplying 'assassination kits' to the Midlands' criminal underworld. Gary Hardy, 62, was a key player in 'one of the largest gun factory operations in the East Midlands', said Nottinghamshire Police. He sold the kits with co-conspirator 64-year-old Ronald Knowles, who acquired blank firing handguns and ammunition which he converted into viable weapons. Nottinghamshire Police told how the deadly kits were then sent across the country and later recovered in places including the West Midlands and Essex. The majority of kits were seized in the West Midlands - although none of the seized firearms had been used. Bodycam footage, shared by Nottinghamshire Police following sentencing, shows how a seemingly innocent looking box was found by officers to contain a bag containing four assassination kits. Evidence revealed at least 33 firearms had been manufactured in the gang's factory. Accomplices Steven Houston, 65 and 23-year-old Jason Hill were sentenced alongside Hardy and Knowles on Friday June 27 at Nottingham Crown Court. Nottinghamshire Police said the gang, including Hardy, were jailed for a combined 65 years and six months. Read more on that here. In his sentencing remarks, Judge Mark Watson said: 'The firearms were sold as part of what have rightly been described as 'assassination kits'. "You were in business together and you each brought your own set of skills and contacts to this enterprise. 'Each of you contributed in different but important ways. This was an ongoing enterprise brought to an end only by police intervention.'
