FAB reports Dhs17.1bn in net profit for 2024

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the UAE's largest lender, reported a 4 per cent year-on-year increase in net profit for 2024 to Dhs17.1bn ($4.66bn), supported by strong revenue growth and robust business volumes.
The bank's revenue surged 15 per cent to Dhs31.6bn, driven by diversified income streams and operating efficiencies.
FAB's profit before tax rose 13 per cent year-on-year to Dhs19.9bn, reflecting heightened client activity and expansion across key financial markets.
In Q4, net profit climbed 4 per cent to Dhs4.2bn, while revenue increased 11 per cent to Dhs7.7bn.
The bank's Board of Directors has recommended a cash dividend of 75 fils per share for the full year, amounting to a total payout of Dhs8.3bn.
The proposal, which represents 51 per cent of the net profit available for distribution, is subject to shareholder approval at FAB's Annual General Meeting on March 11, 2025.
FAB: Expansion and strategic growth
FAB's asset base expanded in 2024, with total assets rising 4 per cent year-on-year to Dhs1.21tn. Loans, advances, and Islamic financing grew 9 per cent to Dhs529bn, while customer deposits increased 3 per cent to Dhs782bn.
The bank's international operations, which now span 20 key financial markets, saw revenue grow 32 per cent year-on-year, reinforcing FAB's global footprint.
'FAB's performance in 2024 cements consecutive years of expanded scale and improved profitability, demonstrating steady progress against our group strategy as the UAE's global bank,' said Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, chairman of FAB.
Hana Al Rostamani, FAB's Group CEO, highlighted the bank's strategic achievements: 'Our strategy produced robust results in the UAE, our thriving home market, while powering the expansion of our international franchise. We diversified growth across customer segments and sources of income, growing international revenue by 32 per cent.'
FAB's return on tangible equity (RoTE) for 2024 stood at 16.8 per cent, aligning with its medium-term target of above 16 per cent.
Operational highlights and ESG initiatives
FAB continued its expansion in wholesale banking, with investment banking revenue growing 19 per cent year-on-year, while global markets revenue increased by 18 per cent.
Corporate and commercial banking also posted strong gains, aided by digital innovations such as the Commercial Banking Service Accelerator.
Retail banking saw a 20 per cent increase in new customers, with lending and deposits rising 15 per cent and 17 per cent, respectively.
Private banking assets under management surged 75 per cent year-on-year, while revenue in consumer and private banking rose 18 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively.
On the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) front, FAB facilitated Dhs267bn in sustainable and transition financing, surpassing half of its 2030 target of Dhs500bn.
The bank also became the first in the region to publish a
Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures
(TNFD) report, aligning its financial practices with environmental resilience.
'We will continue to invest in technology and innovation to enhance our services, drive efficiencies, and grow our competitive edge, ensuring strong, sustainable shareholder returns,' Al Rostamani added.

FAB's capital and liquidity positions remained strong, with a common equity tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 13.7 per cent and a liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) of 142 per cent.
Looking ahead, FAB aims to capitalise on regional and international opportunities while supporting the UAE's economic ambitions.
'As the UAE's global bank, we remain committed to fostering sustainable growth and connecting local, regional, and international economies within a world-class financial ecosystem,' Sheikh Tahnoon said.

Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed welcomed the Board members, appreciating their constructive efforts and supportive views on the university's remarkable progress at various academic, research, and administrative levels. He extended his thanks and appreciation to Dr Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi for his significant efforts in leading the university during the past period, which contributed to the university's development in various fields. Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed praised the University's progress and its continued efforts to maintain its prestigious status among universities. This is achieved through the continuous development of the scientific research system and the alignment of its academic programmes with global developments and modern technological advancements, in line with the needs of the business sector, 21st-century skills, and the future aspirations of students. This total number of graduates is 2,026, including 1,643 bachelor's degrees, 16 postgraduate diplomas, 302 master's degrees, and 65 doctoral degrees. The Board of Trustees also approved several new academic programmes that meet the needs of the changing labour market and provide the necessary competencies for development, thus supporting the economic and social growth of the country and the region. These programmes include: a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership in Higher Education, a Master of Interior Architecture in Adaptive Reuse, a Master of Science in Safety Engineering, a Master of Science in Innovation and Construction Management, a Master of Laws and Economics, a Professional Master in Shari'a Supervision and Auditing, and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. The Board also approved the establishment of two research centres: the Exeter-Sharjah Centre for Global Studies, which aims to help support interaction and communication between communities and their impact on various aspects of life. The second is the Centre for Advanced Biotechnology, which aims to support advanced interdisciplinary research and enhance international cooperation in vital areas related to sustainable development, innovation, and creativity, and to contribute to achieving research objectives in many important fields, especially in biotechnology. The Board approved the promotion of 22 faculty members, including 8 to the rank of full professor and 14 to associate professor. This reflects the University's commitment to supporting its academic competencies and enhancing its educational and research standing, and is in appreciation of the influential scientific research provided by faculty members, their adoption of modern teaching and learning methods, and their efforts in serving and developing the community. 11 June 2025 22:06 MAYS IBRAHIM (ABU DHABI)UAE banks kicked off 2025 on a strong note, posting an 8.4% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) increase in aggregate net income to Dh22.2 billion, according to Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) latest UAE Banking Pulse report for Q1 surge was attributed to a 59.3% QoQ reduction in impairment charges and an 18% rise in net fee and commission report, which tracks the performance of the UAE's ten largest listed banks, indicates that the first quarter was marked by enhanced cost efficiency, a rise in non-interest income, and renewed momentum in mergers and acquisitions a 2.1% dip in net interest income (NII), profitability ratios showed improvement: Return on equity (RoE) rose to 18.6%, while return on assets (RoA) increased to 2.1%.Lending activity also gained traction, with net loans and advances rising 3.6% QoQ, driven largely by corporate and wholesale lending, which saw a 5.1% grew at an even faster pace, climbing 5.8% due to a 7.6% jump in current and savings account (CASA) inflows. As a result, the loan-to-deposit ratio (LDR) declined to 74.7%, signalling improved sector discipline and digital transformation efforts further strengthened banks' performance. Operating expenses dropped by 7.8% QoQ, pushing the cost-to-income (C/I) ratio down by 234 basis points to 28.2% – the lowest level in the past efficiency gains contributed meaningfully to overall profitability, even as topline revenue remained mostly quality also showed significant improvement. The cost of risk (CoR) fell by 45 basis points to 0.29%, while the coverage ratio rose to 110.5%.The non-performing loan (NPL) ratio declined to 3.2%, supported by stronger recoveries and a healthier loan book. Stage 1 loans increased 3.9% QoQ, while Stage 2 and 3 exposures key trends in Q1 include deposits mobilisation outpacing credit growth. Aggregate deposits grew by 5.8% QoQ, driven by a 7.6% QoQ increase in CASA deposits, exceeding loan growth of 3.6% QoQ. As a result, the Loan-to-Deposit Ratio (LDR) declined 1.5 percentage points to 74.7%.Operating income remained broadly flat, declining marginally by 0.2% QoQ. Net interest income decreased by 2.1%, while fee and commission income rose sharply by 18%, partially offsetting pressure from interest interest margin (NIM) compressed by 15bps QoQ to 2.52% due to lower yield on credit, which dropped by 99 basis points QoQ to 10.9% amid ongoing rate cuts. Cost of funds improved by 52 basis points QoQ to 3.9%, offering some margin protection. The banks analysed in the report are First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Emirates NBD (ENBD), Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB), Mashreq Bank (Mashreq), Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), Commercial Bank of Dubai (CBD), National Bank of Fujairah (NBF), National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) and Sharjah Islamic Bank (SIB).
