Everything To Know About Derek Dixon And His Sexual Assault Allegations Against Tyler Perry
Dixon has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles accusing Perry of creating a 'coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic' by using his influence in the entertainment industry. Perry's lawyer denied the allegations.
Perry is one of the entertainment industry's biggest names, with a string of successful shows under his belt. The mogul is best known for creating the immensely popular Madea character, who was played by Perry in a string of widely successful films from 2005 to 2022.
Naturally, people are interested to know more about Derek Dixon. On Google trends, 'Derek Dixon' is a breakout search term under Tyler Perry's name, with people searching for information about the lawsuit and which shows he worked on with Perry.
Derek Dixon is an actor who is most well-known for his role as Dale on Perry's show The Oval. He was born in North California, and completed his education at Marymount Manhattan College and later acted at the Terry Schreiber Studio in New York.
Alongside the Oval, Dixon worked with Perry on another American drama called Ruthless. The show is a spin-off of The Oval, and tells the story of a woman named Ruth who kidnaps her young daughter to join a religious cult. Dixon has also had multiple roles in theatre productions, including The Lion in Winter, Romeo and Juliet, and The Boys in the Band.
According to People, who obtained the lawsuit, Dixon met Perry in 2019 at a party for the opening of Perry's studio in Atlanta. At the time, Dixon was working for an events company that had organised the party for the filmmaker. Dixon and Perry swapped numbers, according to Dixon.
'Perry allegedly "picked [Dixon] out of a crowd of employees present at the party, and began asking [Dixon] questions about his employment status, and whether Plaintiff was an actor,' with Perry initially offered him career advancement.
Perry later offered Dixon a role on Ruthless, promising that 'it was a small role that could get a lot bigger.'
Derek Dixon's is suing Perry for $260m (£194m), accusing the mogul of sexually assaulting him while working on his TV shows. Dixon's lawsuit accuses Perry of using his influence in the entertainment industry to create a 'coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic' while he was acting on Perry's shows The Oval and Ruthless.
He alleges Perry promised him career advancement but then subjected him to 'escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation' when he didn't reciprocate Perry's 'unwanted advances.'
Perry and Dixon worked together on Ruthless and The Oval. However, the lawsuit states: 'Mr Perry made it clear to Dixon that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendos, Dixon's character would 'die' in the next season.' It claims Perry 'always held this over Mr Dixon's head, implying that [his character] 'Dale' would survive if Dixon kept Perry 'happy'".
Perry's lawyer denied the allegations and called the lawsuit a 'scam to make money.'
'This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,' his attorney Matthew Boyd said in a media statement. 'But Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.'
The lawsuit outlines multiple incidents of sexual harassment and assault that unfolded over several years. 'On multiple occasions, Mr. Perry sexually assaulted Mr. Dixon, including one instance where he forcibly pulled off Mr. Dixon's clothing, groped his buttocks, and attempted to force himself on Dixon,' it reads.

Khamzat Chimaev leaves UFC legend stunned after showing off insane strength
The undefeated star is set to compete in his first UFC title fight on Saturday - and preparations are clearly going well after fans were left stunned by his power Khamzat Chimaev has wowed fans after he was filmed completely manhandling former heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. 'Borz' is set to compete for his first crack at a UFC title this weekend against reigning middleweight king Dricus Du Plessis. Chimaev comes into the showdown off the back of a stunning first round submission win over former champion Robert Whittaker last October. The undefeated sensation has been untouchable since making his professional debut back in 2018. The 31-year-old is known for his ruthless and relentless wrestling, capable of taking anyone down on his day. After moving up from welterweight, many fans have wondered just how powerful Chimaev is. Ahead of his clash with Du Plessis, 'Borz' left fans shocked after he was filmed picking up and manhandling Cormier - a former heavyweight champion - with ease. 'DC' retired back in 2020 following back-to-back defeats to Stipe Miocic. Despite switching the gloves for the microphone, the ex-fighter-turned-pundit is still a force to be reckoned with, and it takes some doing to easily drag the 46-year-old around freely. In a video uploaded to social media, Chimaev and Cormier shared a brief interaction outside the fighter hotel before engaging in a bit of playful wrestling. "You a big guy now, huh?" Joked Cormier. The American seemed to regret his choice of words after Chimaev quickly rushed towards the UFC legend and started to rag-doll 'DC' and swing him around up in the air as if he was a lightweight. Thankfully, the pair were all smiles at the end and shared a warm embrace. "Holy s***. Holy s***. This f****** guy, man. Holy s***. What the f*** was that?" Said Cormier. The 46-year-old has fought many iconic names during the peak of his powers, including Miocic, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Johnson and Dan Henderson, but he insists no one has ever manhandled him like that. "First time in my life somebody has picked me up like that! What was that?" Cormier said before re-entering the hotel. Fans were quick to rush to the comments section and offer their verdict on the footage. "Khamzat is going to ragdoll DDP," wrote one user. "Had his legs doing the little kid kicks," replied another. "This broo picked up DC like nothing. CRAZY!" Another fans commented, while another replied: "Dude might ragdoll DDP like he did (Kevin) Holland." Another fan replied: "Damn, DDP is screwed, lol." Another user gave a confident prediction, stating: "Khamzat will destroy ddp." Another joked: "Bro is tossing him around like a teddy bear," while a separate comment reads: "I wouldn't be surprised if Khamzat dismantles DDP with one takedown after another. He's a complete package power, technique, and fight IQ all rolled into one. Once he gets his grip, it's like being trapped in quicksand. every move you make just drags you closer to the end." Ahead of this weekend's showdown, there were rumours that Chimaev might hang up the gloves for good should he emerge victorious, but it appears he has shut down retirement rumours. In an interview with ESPN, he said: 'Yeah, I've seen Caio said... I don't know where he hears those things. 'I need money bro. This is not enough, just to go for the one title. Hopefully if I don't get injured or some stuff, gonna defend the belt or fight for other belt in Abu Dhabi, as well." The 31-year-old has vowed to compete beyond UFC 319 as he targets success in multiple weight classes. 'I work with a new coach and talk to him about going down again to 170lb. He said gimme a couple months and I'm gonna make it. I don't know who is the champ there, this Australian guy would be a good fight for me," he continued. 'Go down, fight with him as well, take the belt there. If I go up, there is Ankalaev and Alex Pereira, they're fighting now. Whoever's winning, I can fight for that belt, as well.' When is Khamzat Chimaev vs Dricus Du Plessis? UFC 319 - headlined by a middleweight title fight between Chimaev and Du Plessis - will take place on Saturday, August 16 and is being held at the United Center in Chicago. The early prelims are scheduled to get underway at around 11pm Saturday night UK time, while the prelims will start at around 1am Sunday morning UK time. The main card is due to get underway at 3am Sunday morning UK time. In the main event, Chimaev will make the walk to the cage first at around 5:30am Sunday morning UK time, with Du Plessis set to follow immediately after. The action will be shown on TNT Sports and discovery+ in the UK, with the early preliminary rounds available on the UFC Fight Pass.

Band 'devastated' after being forced to pull out of Reading and Leeds
An American band has announced they will no longer be playing Reading and Leeds Festival due to money woes. The 2025 music festival is being held this month, with some of the headliners including Hozier, Chappell Roan, The Kooks and Bring Me the Horizon. However, one act has now shared they've had to pull the plug on their set. Sharing the news in a statement on Instagram, House of Protection wrote: 'We are devastated to announce that we will no longer be performing at this year's Reading & Leeds Festivals. 'Most of the funding to make this short trip possible was coming from our performance at the Heavy Music Awards, which unfortunately has been cancelled due to unforeseen and serious health issues affecting a key member of their team. 'Our condolences go out to that team member during this challenging time.' They continued: 'We are deeply sorry to disappoint those who were excited to see us. 'Unfortunately, we simply don't have the resources to make this happen at the moment. 'Your support means everything to us, and we want to assure you that we are already looking forward to making it up to you in the near future (Spain as well). This decision was not easy for us.' However, they ended by telling fans they would be returning to the UK in October to tour with fellow band, Architects. Reacting to the cancellation, many people threw their support behind the band. 'It's crazy that a band this amazing can't keep up with its career for financial reasons. This business sucks. Deep deep love for you guys,' Marco commented. 'So thankful I got to see you at Download, but Reading and Leeds won't be the same without you, hope everyone's okay and doing the best they can. Devastated,' Alex shared. 'Absolutely gutted – missed you at download because of clashes, was looking forward to reading! Will have to catch you another time! Know how rough it is for indy artists,' Christina added. House of Protection formed just last year. Its members – Aric Improta and Stephen Harrison – had originally began their music careers in other bands including Fever 333, Night Verses and The Chariot. They've described their music style as 'Atlanta trap to UK trip-hop, post-punk and alternative and art-rock'. More Trending Previously speaking to DIY about coming together after being part of different bands, the pair explained. 'We're in this for the long haul – we're going to outrun everyone,' they said. In coming months, they are due to play in Amsterdam and London before touring Australia. Got a story? SeatPicks might not have a crystal ball, but a recent study does indicate there are a few acts the general public has in mind. Here are 15 acts you want to see reunite in the not-too-distant future It's the tail end of 2025, and most of us have witnessed one of music's biggest returns - that of Oasis, who, a year ago this month, announced their reunion shows after Liam Gallagher's set at Leeds and Reading Festival. How time has flown since that moment. As Oasis continue their long-awaited reunion tour in 2025, who are some of the other acts fans want to see return to our stages in the near future? | Getty Images Throughout the year, we were treated to reunions from several acts including Five, Linkin Park, Pulp, Sugababes and the last chance to see Black Sabbath before the death of Ozzy Osbourne only two weeks later. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad But that isn't enough for you all (me included), and as more acts discover the wealth of fortunes regarding reunion shows, for better or for worse, SeatPick, though it would be worth investigating who is next to help our insatiable appetites for nostalgia and reunions. They identified 15 acts based on our constant searches on Google to find out if they're getting back together, to determine who the most in-demand reunions are that people want to see in the not-too-distant future. The science part (Methodology) SeatPick compiled a list of popular disbanded bands from articles and then used the search analytics tool Ahrefs to measure the average global monthly search volume for reunion-related keywords. To gather additional data, they utilised eBay to find the most valuable memorabilia for each band. Finally, they ranked the bands in descending order based on their search volumes to determine which reunions were most in demand among fans. This data was collected in July 2025. Who are the most in-demand reunions UK music fans want to see? Of the top acts SeatPick asked fans who they'd like to see perform a reunion, One Direction topped the list, with some hoping to see the remaining members come together to honour Liam Payne. | Getty Images/Canva Topping the list is a sombre entry, but one many hope might take place in honour of one of the members we lost in 2024. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad One Direction has seen a huge amount of traffic regarding whether a reunion is on the cards - the last time the group performed was on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve in 2015. But after the death of Liam Payne in 2024, many fans hope a reunion could be on the cards to pay tribute to the late singer. On a wholly lighter note, Led Zeppelin came in at second position for the reunion fans want to see occur in the next 12 months; the last time the group performed dates back to 2010, which became a live release under the name 'Celebration Day.' Girl Power continues to permeate popular culture, also, with a full Spice Girls reunion - complete with Victoria - another hopeful reunion we might see sooner rather than later. Other reunions that entered the top five of SeatPick's study include hopes that Justin Timberlake performs alongside the other members of NSYNC sooner rather than later, while ABBA's enduring appeal sees many want the real version of them performing live rather than the avatars in their place.
