Canada wildfire smoke headed your way? Where are Canadian wildfires? What is US air quality?
The Canadian wildfire smoke is slowly working into the U.S. and could affect several states in the Midwest and the Northern Plains, according to AccuWeather meteorologists.
Hot air and any lingering smoke can lead to ozone issues over a broad area of the north-central region, as heat builds in from the western U.S. this week.
AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham noted that "there will be episodes where the smoke can reach the lower levels of the atmosphere and affect visibility and air quality. That could be a safety concern for travel in extreme cases and pose health problems for some individuals with respiratory issues."
The wildfires in Canada are burning in Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan, according to USA Today.
There are multiple states in the path of Canadian wildfire smoke. Here is a list of potentially impacted states, according to USA Today:
Kentucky
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Minnesota
Missouri
Montana
North Dakota
Ohio
South Dakota
Wisconsin

NYC should brace for smoke from Canadian wildfires, but it won't affect residents how you think, expert says
New York City should brace for poor air quality and a hazy sky on Wednesday — but the less-than-stellar conditions can't all be blamed on the ongoing Canadian wildfires raging up north. The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert for all of the Big Apple and the rest of the tri-state area, warning people of certain ages or with health conditions to take it easy as they try to get through the middle of the work week. The hazardous air is expected to last between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m., but it can't be attributed to the smoke from the massive fires ripping through parts of Canada. 3 Smoke from Canadian wildfires will impact the air quality in NYC on Wednesday. via REUTERS Instead, plain old summer weather is the likely culprit. The combination of warm temperatures, lots of sunshine and little wind will worsen the air quality in the greater metro area, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Carl Erickson told The Post. 'The Canadian wildfire smoke, that's more into the upper atmosphere, just kind of causing the sky to look hazy,' he said, noting the smoke isn't close enough to the surface to affect people's breathing. 'It'll be more visual,' making the sunrise and sunset look more vibrant, he added. He said air quality alerts will be a common sight over the summer months, especially in urban areas like the Big Apple. The fires north of the border led to rough conditions in parts of the Midwest, where some states have put out alerts that their air quality is 'very unhealthy.' 3 The wildfire smoke is expected to make the sky look hazy, AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Carl Erickson told the Post. Manitoba Government/AFP via Getty Images The Minneapolis-St-Paul area reeked of smoke Tuesday, even as rain dampened some of the unbearable smell. More than 27,000 Canadians in three provinces were forced to flee their homes since last month, with the smoke even reaching some of Europe, causing hazy skies, but not unhealthy air. The city grappled with a surreal orange sky and awful air quality when smoke from Canadian wildfires descended on New York in June 2023. With Post wires.

Not quite 90°, but we will come close. Take it easy in this heat. Cooler weather and rain on the way.
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Warm air for the next couple of days. Well-Above average warmth is back. The sun will be rather filtered because of the wildfire smoke across the central Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan. This could bring down our temperatures and even cause air quality problems across New York. By the end of the day Thursday we will look for a cold front to come into the Tiers carrying with it showers, and thunderstorms that may be marginally severe at times. Then once again, we will end up in a rainy pattern to start the weekend. We then hope for a break, for at least a day to recoup on Sunday with the sunshine, but the showers come back Monday. More players accuse former Indiana basketball team doctor of sexual misconduct
The number of former Indiana men's basketball players alleging sexual misconduct by a former team doctor is now up to 15. Attorney Michelle Simpson Tuegel told ESPN that five former Hoosiers are now named in the lawsuit and that 10 more men also plan to pursue legal action against Indiana University. In March, former Knicks guard Butch Carter was the fifth man to join the lawsuit as he alleged that Dr. Bradford Bomba 'put on gloves, lubed his fingers and told Carter to bend over the table' before Bomba then inserted at least one finger into Carter's rectum. 4 Former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight, right, talks with Dr. Brad Bomba at a fund-raising dinner for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in Indianapolis on Dec. 17, 2009. ASSOCIATED PRESS Bomba worked as a team physician for nearly 30 years under head coach Bobby Knight and head athletic trainer Tim Garl. Knight died in 2023, while Bomba passed away last month. Like the allegations Carter has made, the former players accuse Bomba of routinely giving rectal exams during physicals despite medical guidance not making any recommendations for them. The players allege that Knight and other school officials heard player complaints and knew of Bomba's alleged actions but did not stop anything. The players also allege that Knight and Garl continuously ordered players to continue seeing Bomba despite their complaints. 4 Legendary head coach Bobby Knight was Indiana's coach at the time of the alleged sexual misconduct. Getty Images The attorneys for Garl, who is a defendant in the case, argue that complaints are 'decades too late' and that Garl did not relevantly supervise Bomba in regard to the alleged misconduct. Before his death, Bomba was deposed last year and invoked his Fifth Amendment right, refusing to answer 45 questions. An Indiana-commissioned investigation found last month that Bomba's rectal examinations were done in a 'clinically appropriate manner' and there was 'no evidence to suggest that Dr. Bomba achieved sexual gratification.' 4 Former Knick Butch Carter is one of the players alleging sexual misconduct against Dr. Bradford Bomba. NEW YORK POST The ex-players have disputed those findings, however, as their attorney said two of her clients' stories contradict Bomba's actions not being sexual. One man said Bomba 'fondled his genitalia' during a physical and another claimed he was given a rectal exam by Bomba when he was still a minor in high school. While the lawsuit will face its challenges because of Bomba's recent death and the state of Indiana's two-year statute of limitations for bringing sexual assault claims in civil litigation, the former Hoosiers are motivated to share their stories. 4 Bobby Knight (left) and Indiana won the national championship in 1976, during Dr. Bradford Bomba's tenure. AP 'I have two sons who are the same age that I was when that happened to me,' Haris Mujezinovic, one of the plaintiffs from the initial lawsuit, wrote in an email to ESPN. 'At the time I viewed myself as an adult, but now I realize, looking at my own kids, how young and powerless me and my teammates actually were. 'The adults within the basketball program who were entrusted with our care knew what was happening to us. They joked about it and let it continue.'
