Dosa saree, Idli shirt and a pani puri watch? AI turns desi food into fashion
Food and fashion might not usually go hand in hand, unless you're wearing your lunch by accident but thanks to AI, that combo has taken a wild and surprisingly stylish turn. From pasta that dances to sushi that crawls, AI-generated food content has been doing the rounds on social media for a while. But the latest viral reel to grab eyeballs? It's turning Indian street food into full-blown fashion statements.
Posted by the Instagram page @hoohoocreations80, the reel poses a delightful question: 'What if the food we love wasn't just meant to be eaten, but worn, carried, and lived with?' And honestly, the AI answers in the most unexpected (and hilarious) ways.

The video opens with a true desi moment, a woman wearing a
dosa saree
. Yes, you read that right. The crispy golden folds of a dosa are draped like a pallu over her shoulder and around her waist, giving major saree goals with a foodie twist. And it doesn't stop there.
Next up is a tiny ice cream scoop handbag, think pastel scoops of vanilla, strawberry, mango and more, all bundled up into a bubble-textured purse that's oddly adorable. Then comes a man in what may be the most controversial outfit of the video: an idli shirt. It's puffy, soft, and made entirely out of everyone's favourite breakfast staple. Some viewers called it "terrifying." Others found it oddly… charming?
But wait, it gets better (or weirder). A woman strolls in wearing a popcorn dupatta that looks like a buttery, cosy wrap made from strung-together kernels. It's giving movie-night meets runway realness.
Then come the watches, because why not accessorise with snacks too? The
pani puri watch
has a moving dial floating on a pool of pani, with a rim that looks like it's made of actual puris. Meanwhile, the gulab jamun watch features a giant syrupy sweet as its dial - soft, round, and syrup-dripping in style. Definitely not waterproof, we imagine!
Other standout accessories? A jalebi hair clip (the twirls are perfect for a barrette), a potato chip earring, and a final jaw-dropper: a sandwich suitcase, complete with lettuce, tomato, and cheese layers stacked into a briefcase you'd want to bite before boarding your flight.
Naturally, the internet had thoughts. The comments section is filled with a mix of amusement, admiration and slight concern. Here's what people are saying:
'Pani puri watch is fabulous.'
'Golgappa watch is epic.'
'I like gulab jamun watch.'
'I want that ice cream bag.'
'Except idli shirt and popcorn dupatta, everything else looks nice.'
'That idli shirt actually scared me, I don't know why.'
'Super creative, but trust me, someone will actually make this real.'
'The designers are watching.'
'Ice cream bag and ghee dosa saree are super.'
'What people expect me to be like when they say, 'You don't look like a South Indian.''
'When you're super hungry and all you can see is food everywhere.'
With over 48 million views and counting, the reel has officially taken foodie fashion to viral status. Whether you're loving the creativity or slightly haunted by the idli couture, there's no denying that AI has opened the door to a whole new world where fashion isn't just about fabric, it's about flavour.
Now the only question left is… would you wear it?

10 international desserts that look so Indian!
1 2 Some desserts from around the world look so much like Indian classics, you'd think they came straight from a familiar sweet shop. Fluffy layers, golden syrup, thickened milk, rose and cardamom hints make it seem like global sweets have been taking inspiration from Indian mithai for a long time. Whether it's a flaky pastry that brings to mind a gujiya or a chilled pudding that reminds you of phirni, these treats travel across countries while holding on to a desi charm. These lookalikes don't just match Indian sweets in appearance — they share textures, ingredients, and even how they're enjoyed. Some are steamed, some are fried, and most carry that warm, celebratory feeling. The highlight is that each one brings a unique twist while still tasting close to home. Here is a list of international desserts that could easily be mistaken for Indian favourites at first glance or first bite. Baklava (Turkey) With its flaky layers, chopped nuts, and sticky sweetness, baklava feels like it could be related to soan papdi or gujiya. The mix of rich buttery flavour and sugar syrup gives it an instantly familiar taste. It's one of those desserts that feels both new and nostalgic at the same time. Basbousa (Middle East) This soft, grainy cake made with semolina and soaked in syrup feels just like a syrupy rava cake. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo It's often topped with almonds and has a subtle coconut note, like a fusion between a barfi and halwa. Kanafeh (Levant) Made with shredded pastry, melted cheese, and rose-scented syrup, kanafeh looks like a luxurious twist on Indian sweets like chena toast or malai sandwich. The contrast of textures is pure magic. Tres Leches (Latin America) This milk-soaked sponge cake gives strong rasmalai energy. Soft and soaked in sweet milk, it's a rich, creamy experience that's surprisingly similar to Indian milk-based desserts. Loukoumades (Greece) These little deep-fried dough balls dipped in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon could easily be mistaken for mini gulab jamuns. They're light, airy, and just as addictive. Mochi (Japan) Soft, chewy, and filled with red bean or custard, mochi looks a lot like modaks or stuffed rice dumplings. Their minimal sweetness and smooth texture give them a very familiar festive feel. Malabi (Israel) This milk pudding topped with rose water and crushed nuts feels a lot like phirni. Served cold and gently flavoured, it ticks all the Indian dessert boxes. Crème Caramel (France) This wobbly custard with a caramel top looks like a firni-flan hybrid. Its silky texture and milky richness make it feel like something straight out of an Indian thali. Churros (Spain) Long, fried dough sticks rolled in sugar feel a lot like shakkarpara or balushahi in a different form. Add a dipping sauce and it becomes a great tea-time treat. Dondurma (Turkey) This stretchy, chewy ice cream made with mastic and salep has the cool creamy charm of kulfi. It is dense, rich and takes time to melt making each bite feel just right. Sonali Bendre agreed to receive Michael Jackson at airport with Raj Thackeray in 1996 on this condition
Sonali Bendre is the only Bollywood actor to have had the opportunity to welcome the late pop sensation Michael Jackson when he visited India for his HIStory World Tour in 1996. Sonali, along with politician Raj Thackeray, played a key role in the grand welcome of Michael Jackson to India in 1996. (Also Read: Salman Khan makes it difficult to like him: Sonali Bendre shares how he made her angry during Hum Saath Saath Hain shoot) Sonali was dressed in a traditional nine-yard saree and greeted Michael at the Mumbai airport with an Indian ritual by applying tilak (a sacred mark on the forehead) and performing aarti. Now, nearly 29 years later, Sonali has opened up about the behind-the-scenes events that led her to be a part of that iconic moment. In an interview with ANI, the Sarfarosh actor said that she was approached by Raj Thackeray's wife, Sharmila Thackeray, for the welcoming ceremony of Michael Jackson at the Mumbai Airport (Bombay Airport at that time). "They told me that you need to come and do that and be somebody who got in touch with me. I think it was Sharmila, Raj's wife. Sharmila's mother and my masi (aunt) have been friends for a long time, and she said, 'why don't you do it' (welcoming Michael Jackson)," said Sonali. However, it was not easy to convince the actor, who was at the peak of her career at the time. She agreed to receive Michael at the airport, but only on one condition. "I was like, okay, but then I want great tickets for the show and all of that with my friends. So I did it because I was getting these tickets to enter where I could take my friends and go to the show. My sister, sister's friends and all of that. We had this great seating. That's what I was so excited about when I did it," added Sonali. The HIStory World Tour included Michael visiting numerous countries and performing for millions of fans. Michael's concert in Mumbai was a highlight of the tour, as it is fondly remembered for his cultural moment in India. In the same interview, Sonali also criticised gossip surrounding her and Raj Thackeray at that time and said, 'I don't know. I mean, a lot of people... I think it's just not in very good taste when people talk about it like that. First of all, I mean, there are families involved and people involved in all of that.'
