2,000 Asnaf Newborns In Perlis Receive PEKA Savings Benefits
KANGAR, April 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 2,000 newborns among the 'asnaf' (zakat recipients) group in Perlis received the benefits of the Permata Kasih (PEKA) National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN Savings) Programme through a collaboration between the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).
PTPTN chief executive Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid said contributions totalling RM400,000 were delivered by MAIPs through PTPTN in the form of SSPN Prime Savings accounts for newly born asnaf children starting April 1, 2025, through the programme.
"Each eligible asnaf child will receive a contribution of RM200 in the form of SSPN Prime Savings accounts as the start of their education savings," he said in a statement today.

No plans to contest in any by-election after leaving Umno: Tengku Zafrul

In a statement posted on his social media today, Tengku Zafrul stressed that the possibility of running in a by-election was never part of his decision-making process when he chose to leave Umno. Advertisement 'I would like to make it clear that no discussion related to this matter ever took place, and it was not part of my consideration in making that decision. 'I strongly disagree with triggering by-elections without urgent necessity, as they consume both time and public funds,' he said. Addressing his resignation from Umno, Tengku Zafrul reiterated that it was a personal decision, made without external pressure. 'I acknowledge it was not an easy decision, but I carefully considered all views and opinions before arriving at it. BUSINESS By Anas Abu Hassan KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian telecommunication companies (telcos) are advised to move beyond traditional tactics and design bold, digital-first strategies that resonate with today's discerning consumers to win in the mature and evolving domestic market, according to a study. A report from GrowthOps Asia noted that the nation's telecommunications industry is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by market convergence, the nationwide 5G rollout, regulatory shifts, and major infrastructure investments. The report, entitled "Winning in Malaysia's Mature Telco Market", revealed that the country's telco market is now highly saturated and competitive, with mobile connections exceeding 129 per cent of the population. 'We are at a pivotal moment in the telco market, where consumers are no longer just looking for connectivity - they want a single, inclusive provider that delivers a suite of services and meaningful value-adds. 'The players who pair innovative products with sharp, relevant go-to-market strategies will be the ones that win," said GrowthOps Malaysia general manager Chris Greenough in a statement to Bernama today.
