Sarawak GOF Operations Net Over RM1.8 Million In Seizures
KUCHING, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) carried out successful operations under Op Bersepadu Khazanah, Op Taring Libas, and Op Taring Awas/Batas, resulting in seizures valued at RM1.84 million.
Sarawak Brigade GOF deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said that on May 15, they raided a site in Sri Aman suspected of operating as a wood processing facility without a valid permit.
'A total of 451 logs of various sizes, three wood processing machines, and a wood storage facility with an estimated value of RM1,070,500 were confiscated during the raid,' he said in a statement here today.
Rosdi said that on the same day, the GOF raided a house in Kampung Tebedu, Serian, arresting a 59-year-old local man and successfully seizing 1,000 cartons of various types of white cigarettes with unpaid duties, estimated to be worth RM340,000.
On May 13, he said, the GOF, in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, raided a house in Bau where a 42-year-old local woman was arrested and 15 birds and eight turtles of protected species, estimated to be worth RM112,885, were seized.
Rosdi said that on May 14, the GOF raided a premises in Kuching, arresting a 57-year-old local man and confiscating 36 birds and 40 protected turtles worth RM79,450.
He added that on the same day, a raid by the GOF at a house in Miri led to the arrest of a 74-year-old local man and the seizure of seven birds of various species, valued at RM27,800.
Meanwhile, in Sibu, Rosdi said, a 36-year-old local man was arrested and seven protected squirrels along with an iron cage worth RM15,000 were seized during a house raid.
On May 15, he said, a joint raid by the GOF and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation in Sri Aman resulted in the arrest of a 62-year-old local man suspected of keeping protected wildlife without a permit.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized assets linked to the misuse of sukuk funds of the construction of a highway in Klang Valley believed to be owned by a highway concessionaire with a Tan Sri title totalling RM143mil during an operation conducted last week. Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the seizures include 14 individual accounts totalling RM4.5mil, eight company accounts totalling RM33mil, luxury condominium and land worth RM24.5mil, nine cars worth RM7.65mil, and 13 cars that have yet to be handed over to the investigation team. Other items seized include luxury watches worth RM25mil, handbags worth RM3mil, jewellery and diamonds (RM6mil), four horses (RM400,000), alcoholic beverages (RM3mil), foreign assets worth more than RM15mil and around RM20mil in gambling activities. "Preliminary investigations revealed there was misconduct between 2016 and 2020 involving approved sukuk funds of about RM1.35bil, involving false claims of about RM360mil and RM416mil and RM50mil in other bank facility loans. "The RM1.67bil highway project also failed to be completed according to schedule and investigations are focused on bribes worth RM12bil paid to certain parties as inducement in helping the cash flow out and back to the suspect,' he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 3), adding that the proceeds were also believed to have been used in money laundering activities. He explained that to embezzle the funds, the parties involved were believed to have used professionals such as auditors, financial experts, engineers and shell companies. "Until now, the MACC has yet to take the Tan Sri's statement as he is in a private hospital ward and today the investigating officer will get confirmation from the doctor on the status of the Tan Sri's health before recording his statement. "Meanwhile, the number of witness statements stands at 45, and those witnesses who have given their statements have been asked to provide further statements,' he said, adding that the investigating team is also tracking down luxury vehicles and properties belonging to the Tan Sri abroad, including in London and Switzerland. The investigation is focused on the true amount of luxury liquor kept by the Tan Sri and the possibility that funds have been transferred to other accounts, he said. GOF foils petrol smuggling attempt using modified cars in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 300 litres of subsidised petrol into Thailand using five cars fitted with modified fuel tanks. The vehicles were discovered at a storage facility in Pangkalan Haram Mek, near Pengkalan Kubor, during a raid carried out in coordination with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), said GOF Southeast Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid. "The petrol was found concealed in customised tanks inside the cars. The seized fuel, worth RM615, is believed to have been prepared for cross-border smuggling," he said in a statement yesterday. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and all seized items have been handed over to KPDN for further action. – BERNAMA

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the investigation report will also be aligned with the results of the criminal investigation before being made public. 'We cannot release our criminal investigation now because we need to combine it with the technical investigation as there are still areas that need to be identified from the criminal investigation,' he said when met after an e-Bike Handover Ceremony at the Selangor Police Contingent headquarters here yesterday. He said the technical investigation under the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) also covers the integrity of the pipes, ground movement, and determines whether any activities in the area exert pressure on the gas pipeline. On May 27, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the police as well as the DOSH investigation reports regarding the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights are expected to be released by the end of June. Hussein said the police investigation also covering aspects of negligence or sabotage, had been completed, and they are waiting for the DOSH to complete their investigation.
