GOF Raids Sawmills Across Three States, Seizes Over RM97mln In Timber And Goods
KUANTAN, 27 May (Bernama) -- The Southeast Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF), in collaboration with the Forestry Department, has seized timber and related goods worth over RM97 million following 32 raids on sawmills in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang between Feb 11 and May 20. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said the first two phases of 'Op Sawmill', a targeted initiative under the broader 'Op Bersepadu Khazanah', involved raids on 18 premises namely two in Terengganu and 16 in Kelantan. These led to the arrest of 53 individuals and the seizure of timber and equipment worth RM66.5 million. Phase three, he said, covered 14 raids on seven premises in Pahang, and four each in Terengganu and Kelantan, with 45 more arrests and RM30.84 million in goods confiscated. He added that 18 Malaysians had been released on bail, while 27 foreign nationals remained in custody. Those detained included six Myanmar nationals, seven Bangladeshis, 12 Indonesians, and one each from Nepal and India. Azmi said 11 offences were identified during the operations, with investigations conducted under several laws, including the Immigration Act 1959/63, National Forestry Act 1984, Wood-Based Industries Enactment 1985, and the Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodations and Employee Amenities Act. He noted that while some premises held valid operating licences, several had breached legal conditions. 'In one case, early intelligence suggested non-compliance, but by the time of the raid, the operator had renewed their licence and rectified the issues, so no action was taken,' he said. -- BERNAMA

GOF Sarawak seizes RM6.82 mln in contraband, wildlife during ops in Sibu, Bau

KUCHING (May 22): The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak Brigade has successfully crippled three criminal activities in recent operations under Op Taring Alpha/Charlie and Op Bersepadu Khazanah, with total seizures valued at around RM6.82 million. Sarawak GOF Brigade deputy commander, ACP Rosdi Inai, said the first operation, conducted on May 21 at a residence in Sibu, led to the arrest of a 44-year-old local man and the confiscation of various contraband items and weapons including imitation firearms. 'The seized items included 7,600 cartons of white cigarettes, 6,788 cartons of kretek cigarettes, 435 boxes of firecrackers, two imitation firearms, nine dangerous weapons and a four-wheel drive vehicle with an estimated value of RM6,297,990,' he said in a statement today. The case is being investigated under multiple laws, including the Customs Act 1967 and the Arms Act 1960. In a second operation on May 19, GOF personnel raided a premises in Bau believed to be used for the illegal storage of 15,000kg of rattan. 'On May 19, a team from the GOF Sarawak Brigade Headquarters raided a premises in Bau suspected of being used to store rattan without a permit. 'Eleven men, including three foreigners, were arrested, and 15,000kg of rattan along with two lorries were seized. The total seizure is estimated at RM490,000,' he said. The case is currently under investigation by the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD) and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 and the Immigration Act. The third operation, also conducted on May 19 in Sibu, targeted illegal wildlife possession. 'In that operation, a 49-year-old local man was arrested for possessing 35 wild animals, 84kg of coral, and captive equipment without a permit. 'The seizure is estimated at RM34,730 and the case has been handed over to SFC Sibu and is being investigated under the Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998,' said Rosdi. He also revealed that from January 1 to May 22, Op Taring operations have resulted in seizures worth RM243 million across 188 cases, leading to 297 arrests and the confiscation of 178 vehicles. Sarawak GOF Operations Net Over RM1.8 Million In Seizures
KUCHING, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Brigade of the General Operations Force (GOF) carried out successful operations under Op Bersepadu Khazanah, Op Taring Libas, and Op Taring Awas/Batas, resulting in seizures valued at RM1.84 million. Sarawak Brigade GOF deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said that on May 15, they raided a site in Sri Aman suspected of operating as a wood processing facility without a valid permit. 'A total of 451 logs of various sizes, three wood processing machines, and a wood storage facility with an estimated value of RM1,070,500 were confiscated during the raid,' he said in a statement here today. Rosdi said that on the same day, the GOF raided a house in Kampung Tebedu, Serian, arresting a 59-year-old local man and successfully seizing 1,000 cartons of various types of white cigarettes with unpaid duties, estimated to be worth RM340,000. On May 13, he said, the GOF, in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation, raided a house in Bau where a 42-year-old local woman was arrested and 15 birds and eight turtles of protected species, estimated to be worth RM112,885, were seized. Rosdi said that on May 14, the GOF raided a premises in Kuching, arresting a 57-year-old local man and confiscating 36 birds and 40 protected turtles worth RM79,450. He added that on the same day, a raid by the GOF at a house in Miri led to the arrest of a 74-year-old local man and the seizure of seven birds of various species, valued at RM27,800. Meanwhile, in Sibu, Rosdi said, a 36-year-old local man was arrested and seven protected squirrels along with an iron cage worth RM15,000 were seized during a house raid. On May 15, he said, a joint raid by the GOF and the Sarawak Forestry Corporation in Sri Aman resulted in the arrest of a 62-year-old local man suspected of keeping protected wildlife without a permit.

Three men, including 2 foreigners, held in traid on illegal iron ore mine
ROMPIN: Authorities detained three men, including two foreigners, allegedly involved in illegal iron ore mining activities at Sungai Ganoh located within the Bukit Ibam forest reserve near Muadzam Shah here on April 30. During the integrated operation, codenamed 'Op Bersepadu Khazanah', the raiding team seized mining equipment and machinery, including an excavator, worth RM1.25 million. The General Operations Force (GOF) Tenggara Brigade posted on its Facebook that its personnel, along with members of the Pahang Enforcement Unit (UPNP) elite team, had gone to the site about 3am. "The enforcement team spotted two Bangladeshi nationals and a local man who was allegedly the operator. They failed to produce any mining licence. "Both the foreigners had no valid work permits. The trio were handed over to the Rompin police for investigations, while the equipment was seized by UPNP," read the statement. The GOF said the suspects were being investigated for carrying out illegal mining under the Pahang Mineral Enactment 2001 while the Bangladeshis were being probed for staying in the country without valid documents. The GOF Tenggara Brigade said it will continue to intensify efforts to curb illegal mining in the country.

The arrests were made around 3am during a joint operation by the General Operations Force (GOF) 7th Battalion and the Pahang State Enforcement Unit, known as Op Bersepadu Khazanah. According to a statement by the GOF Southeast Brigade, checks revealed that the mining site was operated by a local man, along with two Bangladeshis. The site owner could not produce a valid mining licence, while the two foreigners had no valid identification documents. All three men, aged between 40 and 50, were detained. Authorities also seized equipment and machinery worth about RM1.25 million.
