decides to return to Thailand in search of Mapring's roots and biological mother—and perhaps, in the process, heal both their fractured hearts,' reads the synopsis.
Nicolas Brigaud-Robert, François Yon at Playtime Production, and Eric Altmayer and Nicolas Altmayer at Mandarin & Compagnie are producing the film.
'Nobody's Son' marks Nebbou's follow up to 'Who You Think I Am,' a romance thriller starring with Juliette Binoche and François Civil, which played at the Berlinale and sold to over 45 territories worldwide. Nebbou's other well-known credits include 'Mark of an Angel,' a box office hit which won accolades in festivals around the world and sold in more than 30 countries. His 2016 film 'In the Forests of Siberia,' starring Raphaël Personnaz and adapted from Sylvain Tesson's book, was heralded in France as one of the best book-to-screen films in decades.

'Thomas' questioning of his role as a father and how he should accept or not his new life and responsibilities feel extremely contemporary. I have to say that Safy Nebbou takes us brilliantly on this emotional journey about fatherhood,' Brigaud-Robert continued. He also noted that Sony Pictures International Productions will give the film the 'full exposure it deserves in France and around the world.'

The key crew for 'Nobody's Son' includes cinematographer Gilles Porte ('Who You Think I Am'), editor Sylvie Lager ('Love Life'), sound designer Martin Boissau ('In His Own Image') and music by Ibrahim Maalouf ('Who You Think I Am'). The film was already bought by France 3, Canal +, Paramount + and TaProd.
Playtime, which is part of Vuelta Group, will present Tarik Saleh's 'Eagles of the Republic' in competition, and Thierry Klifa's 'The Richest Woman in the World' out of competition at the 2025 Festival de Cannes.
Mandarin & Compagnie, meanwhile, will be at Cannes with Palme d'Or winner Julia Ducounau's 'Alpha' playing in competition.

‘The Phoenician Scheme' Reviews: Do Critics Buy Into Wes Anderson's Comedy?

The logline for The Phoenician Scheme reads, "The story of a family and a family business." Featuring a screenplay by Anderson and Roman Coppola, the offbeat comedy follows the story of European businessman Zsa-zsa Korda (Del Toro) and his only daughter and sole heir, a nun named Sister Liesel (Threapleton), who are each being targeted by assassins and schemers. As of Friday, Rotten Tomatoes critics have collectively given The Phoenician Scheme a 78% 'fresh' rating based on 185 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, 'A caper made with all the intricacy of a Rube Goldberg machine, The Phoenician Scheme doesn't deviate from Wes Anderson's increasingly ornate style but delivers the formula with mannered delicacy.' Audiences on RT gave the film a 73% 'fresh' score on the critic aggregation site's Popcornmeter based on 100-plus verified user ratings. Kyle Smith of The Wall Street Journal is among the top critics on RT who gives The Phoenician Scheme a 'fresh' rating on RT, writing, 'Given that The Phoenician Scheme essentially concludes by saying, as some of the director's other movies did, 'Forgive your ridiculous dad for his failings,' its major attraction is the whimsy with which it is decorated, or suffused, or infested.' Also giving The Phoenician Scheme a 'fresh' take on RT is Ann Hornaday of the Washington Post, who writes, "At its fleeting best — in its meditation on the transactional and the transcendent — this one feels like it's reaching for something more than surface charm." In addition, Justin Chang of The New Yorker gives the film a 'fresh' rating on RT, albeit with some minor reservations, writing, 'The result is more digestible, though also less moving, than Anderson's recent Asteroid City, but it does have a stealth emotional weapon in [Mia] Threapleton's Liesl, who exudes the intelligence and self-possession of a young Anna Karina.' Coleman Spilde of Salon is among the top critics on RT who gives The Phoenician Scheme a 'rotten' rating, writing in his summary, 'The resulting product is just that: a product, with all of the matte pastel appeal of Anderson's oeuvre, yet little of its memorable charm.' Dana Stevens of Slate also gives The Phoenician Scheme a 'rotten' rating on RT, writing, 'For all its exquisite boxes-within-boxes compositions and cleverly designed sets, this whole movie unfolded for me as if behind a thick pane of emotion-proof glass.' Nicholas Barber of the BBC wasn't impressed by the film, either, writing in his 'rotten' take on RT, 'Some directors boast that they make the films that they want to see, and they don't care about pleasing anyone else. In the case of The Phoenician Scheme, it feels as if Anderson and his team were enjoying it more than audiences ever will.' The Phoenician Scheme is now playing in theaters in wide release.

When Is Wes Anderson's ‘The Phoenician Scheme' Coming To Streaming?
The Phoenician Scheme — Wes Anderson's new comedy starring Benicio del Toro, Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson and Bryan Cranston — is now in theaters. When will it be available to stream at home? Directed by Anderson and written by Anderson and Roman Coppola, The Phoenician Scheme held its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival before opening in theaters in limited release in six theaters on May 31. The film opens in theaters in wide release on Friday. Rated PG-13, The Phoenician Scheme's logline reads, 'The story of a family and a family business.' Del Toro stars in the film as Zsa-Zsa Korda, who is one of the richest men in Europe, while Mia Threapleton plays Liesl, Zsa-Zsa's daughter, who is also a nun. Michael Cera also stars as the family's tutor Bjorn. In addition to Hanks, Johansson and Cranston, The Phoenician Scheme also stars Riz Ahmed, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend and Hope Davis. Currently, the only way you can see The Phoenician Scheme is in theaters, so check your local listings for showtimes. When The Phoenician Scheme comes to the home entertainment market, its first stop will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand. The Phoenician Scheme's studio, Focus Features, generally has a month window between the time its films open wide in theaters and arrive on PVOD. For example, the studio's acclaimed papal thriller, Conclave, opened in theaters on Oct. 25, 2024, and arrived on PVOD just over a month later, on Nov. 25. In addition, Focus Features' hit vampire thriller, Nosferatu, premiered in theaters on Dec. 24, 2024, and made its PVOD debut just under a month later, on Jan. 21. If The Phoenician Scheme follows the same release pattern, then viewers can expect the film to arrive on PVOD sometime around July 6, since new film titles generally debut on digital streaming on Tuesdays. Since Focus Features is a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, The Phoenician Scheme will make its streaming video on demand debut on NBC Universal's Peacock streaming platform. Typically, there is a six-week to two-month window between Focus Features' film releases in theaters and their debuts on Peacock. For example, Conclave arrived on Peacock on Dec. 13, 2024, just shy of seven weeks after its Oct. 25 theatrical release. Does 'John Wick 5' Come Next After 'Ballerina'?

Now spanning five movies and a TV series (and counting), it's clear that this is not only a violent, unique, and action-packed world, but one with just about endless possibilities. In fact, the latest film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (or, as we'll refer to it to avoid that clunky title, Ballerina) is proof that the franchise can explore new ground and succeed even without the titular Mr. Wick himself. Sure, Keanu Reeves is in the movie, but the main character is Ana de Armas's Eve—and watching her kick ass in a Wick-esque manner should fill any Keanu-size holes in your heart in the meantime. It's clear that the Wick franchise will continue from here—it's just unknown in what direction. This is a series and brand that's now been making Lionsgate lots of money for over a decade, and with multiple recognizable stars in the fold, there are a bunch of ways things could go. For example, we know that we could do another John Wick movie, and now it seems more than possible that we could do another Ballerina movie. But there's also a spinoff film coming on the John Wick: Chapter 4 character Caine, played by Donnie Yen, which will also star Rina Sawayama's Akira (Yen will also direct). We've already gone down the road of a prequel; the little-watched limited series The Continental focused on the exploits of a younger Winston (Ian McShane). So that's probably not a road that will particularly be gone down, though Wick director Chad Stahelski and McShane don't think particularly highly of it. So maybe don't rule out some kind of re-do. Again: the possibilities do feel kind of endless. But we know the primary question that everyone is going to be asking after Ballerina—will we be getting John Wick 5? And at this time we do seem to have a pretty definitive answer. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. It picks up the character of "The Director," played by Angelica Huston, who was introduced in Chapter 3, and, perhaps most notably, includes Keanu Reeves as played by John Wick. This is the key part of the equation, considering John Wick dies at the end of Chapter 4. That would seem to signify a closed book, right? But as we've established, the possibilities in this world are pretty endless. Most likely. Despite the titular character's death at the end of John Wick: Chapter 4, Lionsgate officially announced that John Wick 5 was in the works at this year's CinemaCon back in April. That being said, director Chad Stahelski is still a little apprehensive that the film will actually get made—because he wants to make sure it's as good as it can possibly be. "Look, everybody seems to want it," he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a matter of whether we crack it. We're actively working on it. It's just … is it going to be satisfying?" Throughout the conversation Stahelski repeatedly suggested that while they're early in the process on John Wick 5, it's still just that—early in the process. And that he hasn't even officially brought the idea to Reeves yet. Stahelski is meticulous, and holds himself to a high standard. And so he doesn't want to proceed with something until it's actually ready to proceed. "If we go down the road of John Wick 5 and build this story and decide this isn't right, there are probably going to be 10 other things we'll discover that we'll use for other things," he says. Which implies it still could not happen. But, he says, sooner or later, it probably will. "The studio would very much will it into existence, I'm sure, at some point," he says. "Look, they've been great and they've asked us to really try and we have a really good couple of ideas and we're going to try." But still, they are very early on. And it seems like for now the Caine spinoff, which has Donnie Yen attached to star and direct, Rina Sawayama attached to reprise her Akira character, and Mattson Tomlin attached to write, is much further along in production, and will certainly come first. Now that much truly remains to be seen. But it would feel like kind of a missed opportunity if it didn't, right? Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas are both bona fide movie stars, and scenes between the two of them are action magic. Let's say Wick 5 opens up with John Wick fighting his way up from hell. Might be a little tricky for him to meet up with Eve down there, but once he gets back to the surface, it feels like a pretty good bet that we'll see these two together (and with guns at each other's throats) again.
