Trump open to extending July 9 trade talks deadline, to send out letters

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (local time) said that he was willing to extend the July 9 deadline for completing trade talks with countries before his sweeping tariffs take effect.
Trump made these remarks at the Kennedy Center before a performance and added that he does not believe that extending the deadline would be necessary, Reuters reported. He further added that trade negotiations were ongoing with 15 countries, including South Korea, Japan as well and the European Union.
"We're rocking in terms of deals. We're dealing with quite a few countries, and they all want to make a deal with us," Trump said, adding that he did not believe a deadline extension would be "a necessity".
The US President also announced that they would soon start sending out letters, possibly in the coming weeks, mentioning the terms of trade deals to dozens of other countries. "At a certain point, we're just going to send letters out ... saying, 'This is the deal. You can take it, or you can leave it. So at a certain point, we'll do that. We're not quite ready," Trump noted.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent informed lawmakers about the willingness of the Trump administration to extend the 90-day deadline, which ends on July 9, or "roll the date forward" for countries negotiating in good faith, in certain cases.
This is the first time that a Trump administration official has indicated some flexibility in regards to the expiration date of the tariff pause. Bessent told the House Ways and Means Committee, "It is highly likely that those countries-or trading blocs, as is the case with the EU-who are negotiating in good faith, we will roll the date forward to continue the good-faith negotiations."
He further added, "If someone is not negotiating, then we will not."
Trump announced sweeping tariffs on more than 100 countries on April 2, in a move he said would "level the playing field" for American businesses and workers. Before the tariffs could go into effect, Trump announced a 90-day pause on April 9, providing the countries a chance to negotiate deals with the US.
The Trump administration has only agreed to one trade deal, with the UK, so far. The report suggests that negotiations are underway with some 17 others.
The remarks by the Trump administration come a day after an appeals court allowed the administration to keep 'collecting tariffs' for now. On Tuesday (local time), a separate deal between the US and China was also agreed upon in London to de-escalate the bilateral trade war, with an August 10 deadline set last month.

'Explosions across Tehran': Visuals capture Israel's preemptive strike on Iran; watch video

Visuals from Iran showed smoke billowing from multiple areas in Iran early on Friday as Israel launched an attack, with explosions resonating throughout Tehran. The strikes targeted nuclear and military installations. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Tehran residents woke to explosions. State television acknowledged the incident. Smoke was visible near Chitgar, western Tehran. No known nuclear facilities exist there, with situation unclear elsewhere. While there is still uncertainty surrounding the extent of damage, Iran's primary nuclear enrichment facility was reportedly targetted at Natanz. The Natanz facility consists of both above-ground and underground sections, housing numerous centrifuge halls for uranium gas enrichment in its nuclear programme. Israeli Prime Minister confirmed Israel's responsibility for Friday's attack on the site. Natanz has previously experienced the Stuxnet cyberattack and several suspected Israeli sabotage operations. Iranian state television reports suggest the leader of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Gen. Hossein Salami may have perished in the Israeli strike. The broadcast indicated that another senior Guard official and two nuclear scientists were also possibly deceased. State television reported the attack ignited the Revolutionary Guard headquarters. Netanyahu confirmed multiple targets in the capital, including nuclear and military installations, along with officials overseeing Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes. This escalation follows mounting tensions regarding Iran's nuclear programme advancement. The International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors censured Iran on Thursday, their first such action in 20 years, regarding cooperation with inspectors. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Iran responded by announcing plans for a third enrichment facility and upgrading centrifuges. Israel has consistently opposed Iran developing nuclear weapons, which Tehran maintains it does not intend to do, despite officials suggesting capability. The US has taken precautionary measures, withdrawing some diplomats from Iraq and offering evacuation options to US military families in the region. Netanyahu stated via YouTube that operations would continue "for as many days at it takes to remove this threat." US secretary of state Marco Rubio confirmed Israel's independent action, noting they deemed it necessary for self-defence. "We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region," Rubio's White House statement declared. Rubio cautioned Iran against targeting US interests or personnel. Brent crude prices increased nearly 5% following the attack. Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz acknowledged the operation without specifying targets. "In the wake of the state of Israel's preventive attack against Iran, missile and drone attacks against Israel and its civilian population are expected immediately," his statement read. Katz "signed a special order declaring an emergency situation in the home front." "It is essential to listen to instructions from the home front command and authorities to stay in protected areas," it continued. Both nations closed their airspace. During the Tehran explosions, President Donald Trump socialised with Congress members at the White House. His awareness remained unclear as he continued greeting guests. Trump had previously urged Netanyahu to delay action while diplomatic negotiations continued. "As long as I think there is a (chance for an) agreement, I don't want them going in because I think it would blow it," Trump told reporters.

Oracle shares hit record high as AI cloud demand propels revenue forecast

Oracle shares surged 14% to breach the $200-mark for the first time on Thursday, after the company raised its annual revenue forecast, driven by strong demand for its AI-related cloud services. Confidence in the software sector remained strong despite geopolitical tensions, even as analysts warn that U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs could undermine Big Tech's AI investments. Earlier this year, Oracle, whose cloud offerings help companies build their AI infrastructure, announced a joint venture called Stargate to deliver large-scale computing capabilities to OpenAI. "Oracle's once-stodgy image levels up to 'cloud-native mage,' and the competitive map now looks less like a classic three-player real time strategy and more like a battle-royale with everyone dropping in, looking for compute loot", said Michael Ashley Schulman, partner at Running Point Capital Advisors. Oracle expects total revenue to be at least $67 billion for fiscal 2026, CEO Safra Catz said on a post-earnings call. The Texas-based company's cloud services quarterly revenue rose 14% to $11.70 billion. Its overall revenue of $15.90 billion beat estimates of $15.59 billion. At least nine brokerages have raised their price target post-earnings. Oracle trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 25.86, compared to rivals Microsoft at 31.34 and Amazon at 31.80, according to data compiled by LSEG. Microsoft's stock has gained 12.16%, while Amazon's has decreased by 2.8% so far this year. "ORCL has entered an entirely new wave of enterprise popularity that it has not seen since the Internet era in the late 90s," analysts at Piper Sandler added. Shares of the company were last trading at $201.38.

'US on a path, I believe ... unparalleled': Trump praises own admin on investments, grocery prices - The Economic Times Video

US President Donald Trump, speaking at the White House Congressional Picnic, praised his own administration on the state of economy in the country. He said trillions of dollars of investment are pouring in, incomes are soaring, grocery prices are way down, gasoline prices are way down as well as inflation. This comes as the World Bank rings a warning bell on slowest economic growth worldwide since the 1960s barring the 2008 recession, the worst economic crisis in the history of humankind. The US economy experienced a slight contraction in real GDP during the first quarter of 2025, decreasing at an annual rate of 0.2%
