PSG beat Auxerre, Saint-Etienne relegated on final day of Ligue 1
PARIS - Paris St. Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice in the second half as the Ligue 1 champions came from behind to beat Auxerre 3-1 to end their season on a winning note after falling behind to a Lassine Sinayoko strike.
At the other end of the table, St Etienne were beaten 3-2 at home by Toulouse and will join already-relegated Montpellier in Ligue 2 next season after finishing second from bottom, while a late penalty lifted Le Havre to a 3-2 win over Strasbourg and 15th place, leaving Reims to finish 16th and a promotion/relegation playoff against FC Metz.
PSG finished on 84 points, 19 ahead of runners-up Olympique de Marseille and 23 ahead of third-placed AS Monaco, who both qualify directly for the Champions League group stage, while OGC Nice thumped Brest 4-0 to finish fourth and enter that competition in the third qualifying round.
Unbeaten when they secured the title in early April, PSG looked set to fall to their third defeat in their six subsequent games when Sinayoko gave Auxerre the lead, but Kvaratskhelia bundled the ball over the line for the equaliser in the 59th minute, with Maruinhos adding a header before the Georgian winger scored again late on to wrap up the three points. France XV fight back to secure 26-24 win over England XV
LONDON - A try after the hooter by Romain Taofifenua gave France XV a 26-24 victory over their English counterparts in a non-cap match at Twickenham on Saturday, as winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso made a disappointing return from injury. Taofifenua burrowed over the try-line after England had led 24-12 with five minutes remaining but could not keep the visitors at bay in a game featuring four tries and a red card for each side. The match served as a warm-up for England's tour of Argentina and the United States, while France are preparing for three tests in New Zealand next month. France scored two early tries as hooker Gaetan Barlot crossed in the corner after breaking away from a driving maul, and lock Hugo Auradou burst into the England 22 after the visitors turned the ball over at the breakdown. England grew into the game, however, and after incessant pressure in the French 22, number eight Tom Willis scored in the corner before lock Alex Coles took a pop-pass from centre Seb Atkinson to cross the line. Feyi-Waboso, playing his first game since December after recovering from an injury, made two simple handling errors before receiving a 30-minute red card just past the half-hour mark. He was penalised for a high tackle as his arm struck the head of French flyhalf Antoine Hastoy. Initially a yellow card, it was upgraded to red on bunker review. Despite their numerical disadvantage, England led 19-12 at halftime when another strong carry from Atkinson broke the French defensive line and his pass to Joe Carpenter set up another try. Following a red card for French forward Cameron Woki, upgraded from yellow on bunker review, England added a fourth try when replacement loose-forward Alex Dombrandt went over in the corner. France had the advantage in the forwards, however, and powered over for two more tries with Taofifenua's effort converted by Hastoy to secure victory for the French. Former Scotland captain McLauchlan dies at 83
Former Scotland and British and Irish Lions prop Ian McLauchlan has died at the age of 83, Scottish Rugby said on Saturday. Known as "Mighty Mouse" because he was a lot smaller than most loosehead props, Mclauchlan won 43 Scotland caps, captained his country 19 times and helped the Lions to series victories over New Zealand and South Africa. He led Scotland in a test against England in 1973 two weeks after breaking his leg during a match against Ireland. "He was so tough, almost indestructible. What a fantastic career he had for Scotland, and the Lions; it's very, very sad," said Andy Irvine, a former Scottish Rugby President and McLauchlan's teammate for Scotland and the Lions. Duckett, Pope survive scares to continue England revival
Cricket - International Test Match Series - First Test - England v India - Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds, Britain - June 21, 2025 India's Rishabh Pant walks after losing his wicket by LBW, off the bowling of England's Josh Tongue Action Images via Reuters/Craig Brough REUTERS LEEDS, England - Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope steadied the ship to give England hope of mounting a comeback on day two of the first test against India at Headingley with the hosts 107-1 at tea, 364 runs behind. England had earlier dismissed India for 471, taking the last seven wickets in an hour either side of lunch to drag themselves back into the match after the touring side had dominated day one. Resuming on 359-3, India captain Shubman Gill quickly moved past his highest score in test cricket, supported by the flamboyant Rishabh Pant, to put India in total control, heading towards lunch on 430 with the loss of no further wickets. Pant was sweeping and scooping to his heart's content, often ending up on his knees, fittingly moving to his seventh test ton with another six into the crowd, celebrated with a forward somersault. After Gill fell for 147 chasing another maximum, India's lower order collapsed as they lost their last seven wickets for 41 runs. In reply, in much more difficult, overcast conditions, the highest-ranked test bowler in the world, Jasprit Bumrah, struck early to remove England opener Zak Crawley for four in the first over and caused problems for Duckett and Pope. Duckett was dropped on 15 and survived a DRS review, both off the bowling of Bumrah, with Pope also coming out on the right side of a review, before the pair settled and calmly took England past 100. Another fine sweep shot took Duckett to his 19th test half century just before tea, and he was unbeaten on 53 at the interval with Pope on 48.
