'Something very special is brewing at Hibernian'

It could have been a tough day for Hibs as we opened our league season campaign at Dens Park on Sunday. The heroics and ultimate disappointment from the side on Thursday night must have taken its toll mentally and physically on David Gray's Gray made only one change to his starting line-up and this tells us a lot about the standards he's setting at Hibs. It would have been easy to give the players a break, rotate the squad and give a run out to some fringe players, however Gray threw down the gauntlet to his starters and told them he expected them to step up to the plate and prove some doubters of course, they did. Again. The packed away end launched into this season's favourite number - "Hibs away, uh-huh uh-huh, I like it!" - as the players took the applause at the end of a very, very comfortable win (don't be fooled by the narrow scoreline, Hibs bossed the game from first to last whistle).Something very special is brewing at Hibernian. After the third-place finish last season, Hibs showed the optimism that surrounds the side with a packed Easter Road last Thursday night, and we'll do it again a week on Thursday when Partizan Belgrade come to Easter Road. Before that, Hibs must go to Belgrade this week for the first leg and if we play anywhere close to the levels of last Thursday, we will have another scintillating European night to look forward to in Leith for the return can find Matty Fairnie at Longbangers podcast, external

Son Heung-min to finalise Tottenham exit as Spurs announce striker transfer

Son Heung-min will complete his £15m move to Los Angeles FC in the coming days while Spurs confirm striker Will Lankshear has joined Oxford on loan Son Heung-min is on his way to Los Angeles before completing a £15m switch to Major League Soccer after deciding to end his decade-long stay at Tottenham Hotspur. ‌ The South Korea star, 33, last week confirmed that he would be leaving north London to pursue a new opportunity having scored 173 goals in 454 games while finally landing silverware by winning the Europa League in his final competitive game for the club. ‌ Son was given a fitting farewell by appearing for Spurs in a friendly against Newcastle in front of his home fans in Seoul and, fighting back the tears, he said after the game: 'This is the time to say goodbye to everyone. Spurs will always be in my heart. I will cheer them on as a family member.' ‌ He is expected to sign a two-year deal with Los Angeles FC and will link-up with another former Spurs star in goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Son's departure follows confirmation that Will Lankshear has been sent on loan to Oxford United for the season. The young striker featured in half a dozen games early last season, starting League phase fixtures in their European run, and then went to West Brom on loan. 'This is a really exciting opportunity for me to be joining a great club,' said Lankshear. 'I learned so much last season in the first team at Tottenham and West Brom and I'm ready to now kick on with Oxford United. ‌ 'I feel like this is the right place for me to be. I love nothing more than scoring goals. I want to do my best to bring as many as I can this season.' New Spurs boss Thomas Frank is bringing his squad to Bavaria for a friendly against Bayern Munich on Thursday evening and will hope to integrate Joao Palhinha, who has been signed on loan from the Bundesliga champions, ahead of next week's UEFA Super Cup versus Paris Saint-Germain. ‌ But Frank is waiting for an update on the condition of James Maddison, who was stretchered off after hurting a knee in the 1-1 draw with Newcastle. 'I think sometimes in life and football things can be both beautiful and brutal – that's what we got today," the head coach said in Seoul. "It looks like with Madders a bad injury, and then on the other side unbelievable scenes for Son from his teammates and the respect from the Newcastle players.'

Newcastle ‘want to seal Benjamin Sesko transfer in next 24 hours as Toon go all out to beat Man Utd to £70m deal'

NEWCASTLE UNITED are hoping to wrap up the signing of Benjamin Sesko in the next "24 hours" its been claimed. The Magpies have identified the RB Leipzig hitman as a replacement for wantaway striker Alexander Isak. 1 The Toon have tabled a club-record bid for the Slovenia international to Leipzig. Both clubs remain in talks over a big-money transfer for the striker, who is also wanted by Manchester United. And the Daily Mail claim the Toon brass want to wrap up the deal for the 22-year-old as soon as possible. They also claim Sesko is "willing" to swap Leipzig for the north east of England. United could, however, still scupper the Toon's pursuit of Leipzig's star man. But the Red Devils are reportedly trailing their Prem rivals in the race for his signature as they've yet to submit an official bid to Leipzig. Sesko was left out of the matchday squad for Leipzig's pre-season friednly defeat to Atalanta last Saturday. And Leipzig bigwig Marcel Schafer admitted the club opted to leave him out of the squad due to the interest he's garnering from United and Newcastle. He told BILD: "In Benji's case, several clubs have shown concrete interest, and based on the overall situation, we have decided that he will not play today. But, I would like to emphasise this clearly: That does not mean that he will not play next week either. "I think we had the same situation with Benji last year. "Everyone knows the outcome. So I want to make it clear that he's not heading off to just any club now. "Due to the very concrete interest from several clubs, we've decided for today that he won't play." THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..
