In an interview with local media outlet KTLA in Los Angeles, the mother of the child, Rebecca Haro, said the incident occurred outside Big 5 Sporting Goods, where she went to buy a mouthguard for her older son's football practice. Haro said she brought her 7-month-old with her and noticed he needed to be changed. "I was going to get the diaper and somebody said, 'Hola,' and I don't remember anything since," Haro, who has a black eye, said in tears, KTLA reports. "I woke up here on the floor," she said, adding that she did not see the child afterward. What People Are Saying Jake Haro, the infant's father, in an interview with KTLA: "Whoever took my son, please return him. We just want him back. ... We won't do anything to you. The NCAA revealed its findings and punishments for Michigan regarding a 2023 sign-stealing investigation into the program on Friday morning. Those who were disciplined include former head coach Jim Harbaugh, current head coach Sherrone Moore, former Michigan analyst Connor Stalions and former director of player personnel Denard Robinson. Harbaugh punishment: 10-year show-cause order, prohibiting him from any "athletically related activities" during the show-cause period beginning on Aug. 7, 2028 Moore punishment: Two-year show-cause order and a one-game suspension for the 2026 Two-year show-cause order and a one-game suspension for the 2026 college football season (Moore was already suspended for two games by Michigan for the 2025 season) Stalions punishment: Eight-year show-cause order, prohibiting him from any "athletically related activities" during the show-cause period Robinson punishment: Three-year show-cause order, prohibiting him from any "athletically related activities" during the show-cause period All four of the aforementioned individuals are categorized in "trigger repeat violator status," as they repeatedly failed to comply with the investigation, according to the NCAA report. They were also said to be guilty of "destroying relevant materials to providing false and misleading information during interviews." Elsewhere, the parties involved received four years of probation, a $50,000 fine, a 25% reduction in football official visits for the 2025 season and a 14-week prohibition on recruiting communications in their football program during the probation period. Michigan is expected to be fined upwards of $20 million, according to ESPN. ADVERTISEMENT During the 2023 season, knowledge of Michigan gaining impermissible access to opposing teams' on-field signals during the 2022 season came to light, which the NCAA confirmed in its report. Stalions, a former Michigan analyst, was revealed to be the impetus behind the operation, with the school moving on from the six-year staffer shortly after the revelations. Furthermore, linebackers coach Chris Partridge was fired for a purported role in the illegal sign-stealing scheme. Meanwhile, the Big Ten Conference suspended Harbaugh, Michigan's head coach from 2015-23, for the final three games of the 2023 regular season, with him returning for the Big Ten Championship Game. The Wolverines went on to finish 15-0 and earn National Championship honors for the first time since the 1997 season. Harbaugh left Michigan to become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers shortly after the 2023 college football season. Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, who served as acting head coach during Harbaugh's Big Ten-imposed suspension in 2023, became the full-time head coach for the 2024 season, with the Wolverines going 8-5 overall and 5-4 in Big Ten play. Why is Rashee Rice's case being delayed?
On July 17, Vikings receiver Jordan Addison resolved a DUI citation by pleading guilty to a lesser misdemeanor charge, with no jail time. He'll miss the first three games of the regular season. On July 17, Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice pleaded guilty to a pair of felonies arising from a street racing crash that was caught on video, and that caused multiple injuries. He'll serve 30 days and spend five years on probation. And he'll be on the field for at least the first four games of the season, because his disciplinary hearing won't happen until September 30. It makes no sense. And it's making some wonder whether someone wants Rice to be available for a quartet of high-profile Kansas City games to start the season. From Week 1 against the Chargers in Brazil on YouTube to Week 2 against the Eagles at 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox to Week 3 against the Giants on NBC's Sunday Night Football to Week 4 against the Ravens at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS, Rice is now good to go. Given that his hearing will happen on Tuesday, September 30, he'll most likely be available for Week 5, a Monday night visit to Jacksonville on ESPN and ABC. As one league source observed, it usually doesn't work this way. With the player pleading guilty in the offseason, there's usually an urgency to finalize his discipline and have it begin before Week 1. 'Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist,' the source said, 'but this is odd.' Added the source, 'You hardly ever see players get suspended in season unless they did something in season like a drug test or something.' Here, there's no dispute. Rice pleaded guilty. The question is only the extent of the punishment. Why didn't the league expedite the case? If all else fails, put him on paid leave until the case is resolved, and give him credit for the games he misses after the final punishment is issued. At a time when many think the league favors the Chiefs, situations like this will not become evidence to the contrary. If anything, it looks like the dominos have fallen in a way to ensure that Rice will be available for four, and likely five, high-profile games to be played on YouTube, CBS, NBC, Fox, and ESPN/ABC.
