‘Must rectify that': Springboks coach announces overhaul after Wallabies epic win

South Africa have made 10 changes to their starting team for their second Rugby Championship match against Australia at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
Head coach Rassie Erasmus announced the new-look team on Tuesday and said the Springboks were determined to 'get things right' after their shock 38-22 defeat against the same opponents in Johannesburg last weekend.
Four of the changes were because of injuries to captain Siya Kolisi as well as wings Kurt-Lee Arendse and Edwill van der Merwe and flank Pieter-Steph du Toit.

Centre Jesse Kriel, one of five survivors from the Johannesburg defeat, will captain the team for the second time in his career.
Prop Ox Nche, who also played last Saturday, will be vice-captain for the first time.
'We lost four players to injury, which obviously had an impact on a few of our selections but we also know where we went wrong against Australia last week,' said Erasmus.
The Springboks opted for experience with Willie le Roux at full-back and Handre Pollard at fly-half, while Damian de Allende has recovered from injury and will reunite with Kriel in one of South Africa's most successful centre pairings.
Le Roux, Pollard and De Allende have a total of 271 caps between them. There is also a return to a 6-2 forwards-backs split on the bench with Erasmus able to call on a powerful back-up tight five which includes lock Eben Etzebeth, South Africa's most-capped player.
Erasmus said he was expecting another physical battle against the Wallabies, who recovered from being 22-0 down after 20 minutes to secure a six-tries-to-three victory last week.
'We are still hurting from that result and the coaches and players are extremely disappointed with the way we played last week,' said Erasmus.
'We know we didn't play according to our standards in the second half and we must rectify that.'

In-demand Blue's honest reveal on ‘big week ahead' as $1.7m decision looms

Blues ruck Tom De Koning has given his most honest answer yet as to where his future lies, admitting he's got a 'huge' week ahead. De Koning, who is yet to re-sign at Carlton, is widely tipped to have played his last game for the club with reports of a St Kilda deal worth around $1.7 million per season on the table in front of him. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? 'Yeah, obviously this week will be huge,' he told Fox Footy. 'There's obviously a big decision and umm, yeah looking forward to getting to Bali and getting a surf in. And clearing the head after a big year.' Three-time premiership Tiger Jack Riewoldt believes De Koning will be announcing his exit. 'A big week ahead for Tom De Koning. They go through their exit interviews now and that will be no doubt with Michael Voss, his line coach, Graham Wright potentially sitting in those interviews as well. 'They would definitely know what's going on. 'I think the way it's drawn out, the likelihood is he's gonna be not at Carlton next year which is disappointing for Carlton if he does leave because he's such a big figure.' Carlton captain Patrick Cripps described De Koning as 'a competitor' who he loves playing with. 'You couldn't question the way he rocked up this year, or ever,' he said. 'And to play 100 games for any club is special so he gets a name on the locker. You know, he's going to go down as a 100-game Carlton player forever.' De Koning said he had 'mixed emotions' as the Blues' season came to an end with nine wins for the year. 'It's obviously been a tough year for the club so umm, yeah the emotions after a win are always good,' he said. 'To finish the season now is pretty disappointing without going into finals. 'Mixed emotions but yeah stoked the boys were able to rock up tonight. 'It was good to see Crippa, Walshy, George, those boys really impressed in there … it's fun playing with them.' Two-time premiership Roo David King said it was now up to De Koning it 'handle it well' as he decides if his future is at the Blues or elsewhere like the Saints. 'The club has been brilliant for him – he's been good for the club. But it's a two-way street – got to handle yourself well if you are to exit,' he said. 'So hopefully that's done as quickly as possible really. 'I mean, Carlton fans have been on the edge of their seat for six to eight weeks. You need to know as a football club. You need to know as soon as possible if they don't already know. 'So they may feel he's gone – it just needs to be ticked off in the correct manner. It's going to leave a hole.' De Koning finished game 100, and potentially his last for the Blues, with 15 disposals, 16 hit-outs, four clearances and five marks.

Five All Blacks changes as they aim to maul Pumas again

All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has made five changes to his line-up for the second Rugby Championship Test against Argentina in Buenos Aires, handing No.8 Simon Parker his debut. Parker's selection is the only change to the starting 15 as the 25-year-old rookie's inclusion has enabled Robertson to move Ardie Savea back to his usual position on the openside flank. There are four changes on the bench, where prop Tamaiti Williams and backrower Wallace Sititi make their returns from injury. At the same time, lock Josh Lord and centre Quinn Tupaea have been added to the replacements after injuries in the first Test to Patrick Tuipulotu and Anton Lienert-Brown. Parker's immediate promotion to the starting line-up is a minor surprise. Robertson had been expected to name the more experienced Sititi to start and to introduce Parker from the bench. Williams also was expected to start but Robertson has decided to allow both Sititi and Williams to make more cautious returns from injury. Robertson also will have been reasonably satisfied with the scrum performance of his starting pack last weekend as the All Blacks won the first Test at Cordoba 41-24. While Parker will be playing his first Test, hooker Codie Taylor will make his 100th appearance, becoming the 14th All Blacks centurion. "Codie is a great All Black. He carries a huge amount of mana (status) in our group and it's important we put out a performance that makes him and his whānau (family) proud in his 100th Test," Robertson said. "The way he carries himself and the example he sets are testament to him as a person and he will front this week in the same way he has for the past 99 Tests. "Equally, it's a special day for Simon (Parker) and his family. He's earned his selection through performance and consistency. He's a big, physical man, and he's ready to make an impact." Parker has made an impression in Super Rugby this season as a big man who still possesses pace and skill. He is 1.97 metres, weighs 119 kilograms and the All Blacks selectors see him as a possible answer to the size of the world champion Springboks, their opponents in the next stage of the Rugby Championship.

Fraser McReight to lead the Wallabies in the absence of the injured Harry Wilson

Queensland Reds flanker Fraser McReight will become the Wallabies' 91st captain this weekend, leading an Australian side in Cape Town that will include debutant winger Corey Toole. Chasing back-to-back Rugby Championship wins over South Africa, the Wallabies have made three injury-enforced changes to the team that started in last Sunday morning's 38-22 win over the Springboks in Johannesburg. Brumbies star and Sevens Olympian Toole replaces Dylan Pietsch (fractured jaw), prop Tom Robertson comes in for James Slipper (concussion), while Rob Valetini will start at No.8 in place of Harry Wilson (knee). The absence of regular skipper Wilson has led to his Reds teammate McReight being named captain. 'The squad as a whole has recovered pretty well from what was a very draining and physical Test match on the Highveld last week,' Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said. 'We struggled to contain a powerhouse Springbok start last weekend and we know that we have to improve leading into what's likely to be a bruising encounter in Cape Town on (Sunday morning, AEST).' Experienced pair Nic White and James O'Connor have again been partnered in the halves, with Reds halfback and skipper Tate McDermott to again come off the bench. Wallabies: Tom Robertson, Billy Pollard, Taniela Tupou, Nick Frost, Will Skelton, Tom Hooper, Fraser McReight (c), Rob Valetini, Nic White, James O'Connor, Corey Toole, Len Ikitau, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Max Jorgensen, Tom Wright. Bench: Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Angus Bell, Zane Nonggorr, Jeremy Williams, Nick Champion de Crespigny, Tate McDermott, Tane Edmed, Andrew Kellaway.
