Lloyd relieved to survive close shave and reunite with Barber
Relieved to escape serious injury from a midweek scare at Warwick Farm, Lloyd was back at the trials on Friday at Rosehill. His foot hit a metal rail while riding pre-race on Wednesday and he went for X-rays on Thursday. Although results had not come back, Lloyd's doctor believed it was only severe bone bruising.
Lloyd came through the trials well and was looking to a promising book of rides at Randwick before turning his focus to Queensland next Saturday when he pilots Bosustow in the $3 million Stradbroke Handicap, a race he won with Stefi Magnetica last year to give him a first group 1.
'I didn't have anything stand out in Queensland this week,' Lloyd said.
'I could have had five or six 10- to 20-1 shots, but with the book I had in Sydney, I thought it was worthwhile staying.'
The Richard Litt-trained Barber, a $6.50 Sportsbet hope in the feature, is among his best chances at Randwick. A former Godolphin galloper, Barber won his second start for Litt and new connections when edging out Brudenell in the listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Gosford on May 10 for jockey Tyler Schiller.
With Schiller sidelined with a back fracture from a pre-race fall at Canterbury last week, Lloyd has gained the job on Barber. Lloyd won two Sydney apprentices' titles while with Godolphin and knows the four-year-old gelding well.
'I'm very excited to ride him because I had a bit to do with him as a younger horse,' Lloyd said.
'He looks to still be racing well, Richard's horses are racing really well, so he should run well.

Former Essendon star Matthew Lloyd is worried about Fremantle Dockers following loss to Brisbane Lions
Triple Coleman medallist Matthew Lloyd has questioned Fremantle's ability to handle the pressure of big games following Friday night's loss to Brisbane and turned up the heat on under performing players ahead of Sunday's season deciding showdown against the Western Bulldogs. The Dockers had their chance to secure their spot in the top eight on Friday but were no match for the Lions, losing by 57 points. Fremantle are now staring down the barrel of potentially missing finals despite being inside the top four at the business end of the season for the second year in a row. Even coach Justin Longmuir admitted he felt the players didn't handle the occasion against Brisbane and Lloyd said there were too many alarm bells surrounding the Dockers. 'You don't want to hear that where he's second guessing. Where are we at? Why didn't we go after them? Why weren't we nasty? Why weren't we hungry?' Lloyd told The Sunday Footy Show. 'Why were we missing these shots? Did the pressure get to us when trying to secure a finals berth, just like last year? I'd have to say it did. 'I think Brisbane are a wonderful team. When Brisbane lose the week before, they come out and make a real statement. What they did to Collingwood at the MCG and what they did in this game - they are the best big game side. 'There was no Lachie Neale and they smashed them in the midfield. There's a lot of Fremantle players I still question, so I cannot wait to see how they play against the Western Bulldogs.' The Bulldogs have a phenomenal record at Marvel Stadium, repeatedly thrashing teams under the roof. they beat Fremantle by 67 points at that venue last season, kicking 23 goals along the way. The Dockers also lost to St Kilda by 61 points in their only visit to Marvel stadium this year. But Fremantle beat the Dogs in perth earlier this year and will enter the game having not lost successive games since May. 'They've performed well across the last 10 weeks which has been enormous from them,' former Adelaide captain Rory Sloane said. 'But there's no tougher task than the Doggies at Marvel. They move the ball so quickly. They're so clean in there. So their pressure is going to have to lift. Don't get beaten by what you know. The Dogs' hands are elite. they're going to have to pressure them.'

McEvoy hoping Skyhook steals show and star duo hit the track
Kerrin McEvoy is excited about the spring prospects of his rides in and possibly between races at Rosehill on Saturday. McEvoy has the job on stakes winner Skyhook ($3.90 Sportsbet) in the listed Rosebud (1100m) and unbeaten Peter Snowden-trained mare Amreekiyah ($3.60) a race earlier. The 44-year-old is also down to pilot Chris Waller-trained stars Fangirl and Autumn Glow in 1000m exhibition gallops between races early in the day if track conditions are suitable. The surface was a heavy 10 on Friday. Aeliana (Jason Collett), Via Sistina (James McDonald) and Lady Shenandoah (McDonald) were also set to gallop ahead of potential returns next week at Randwick on Winx Stakes day. McEvoy won the Winx Stakes, the first group 1 of the season, last year with Via Sistina, and he was eyeing another shot at the race, this time with Fangirl. 'I've been lucky enough to pick up some nice ones next week,' McEvoy said. 'Memo is going to run, and I think at this stage, if Fangirl runs, I might be on her. Possibly Autumn Glow as well, if she runs in the Show County. That one is weight-related with James.' The 84-time group 1 winner is hoping Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Skyhook could highlight his spring credentials in the first feature for three-year-olds.
