Steven Alker shoots 63 to take first-round lead at ISPS Handa Senior Open
BERKSHIRE, England — Steven Alker had six birdies and an eagle on his way to a 7-under 63 on Thursday on the Old Course at Sunningdale, giving him a one-shot lead in the ISPS Handa Senior Open, the final major of the year on the PGA Tour Champions.
Alker has twice won the Charles Schwab Cup and has nine PGA Tour Champions titles, but he has only one senior major, the Senior PGA Championship in 2022.
He led by one shot over Mark Hensby of Australia. Defending champion K.J. Choi and Joe Durant were three shots behind at 66.
'I was just efficient today. Drove it in the fairway when I needed to and iron play was solid and just made some putts, especially on the back nine, just kind of kept things rolling,' Alker said. 'Always need momentum. It's a nice opening round for the Senior Open.'
Padraig Harrington and Ernie Els were in the group another shot behind. Justin Leonard, who made the cut last week in the British Open at Royal Portrush, was among those at 69.

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. — Steve Allan of Australia won the Boeing Classic on Sunday for his second PGA Tour Champions victory in three starts and third of the season, closing with a birdie for a 7-under 65 and a one-stroke margin over Stewart Cink. Allan made a 5-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge, then waited to see if Cink could catch him. A stroke behind going into the final hole, Cink left a greenside bunker shot on the lip and made a par for a 70. The 51-year-old Allan finished at 15-under 201. He won the The Galleri Classic at Mission Hills in the California desert in March and the Dick's Open last month in Endicott, New York. Ernie Els and Darren Clarke tied for third at 13 under, each shooting 66. Alex Cejka was another stroke back after a 67. Local favorite Fred Couples tied for 47th at 1 over after a 75. From Seattle, the 65-year-old Couples made only his seventh senior start of the season.

Steve Allan mounts Sunday comeback to win 2025 Boeing Classic on PGA Tour Champions
Steve Allan overcame a four-shot deficit to start the final round Sunday to win the 2025 Boeing Classic. Allan's 7-under 65 at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge near Seattle was enough to overcome 36-hole leader Stewart Cink, who closed with a 2-under 70. Allan wins for the third time this season on the PGA Tour Champions. That ties him with Angel Cabrera and puts him one back of Miguel Angel Jimenez, who has four wins in 2025. Allan's final round was bogey free and showcased seven birdies, including a final one on the par-5 18th hole to finish at 15 under. After signing his scorecard he played the waiting game to see if that number would hold up. Cink birdied the 15th and 16th holes and made par on the 17th to get to 14 under but found a greenside bunker on the 18th hole and could do no better than par at the last. Darren Clarke and Ernie Els — who started his week throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before a Mariners game on Tuesday — shot matching Sunday 66s to tie for third at 13 under. Alex Cejka was solo fifth at 12 under. Charles Schwab Cup standings leader Miguel Angel Jimenez shot 71 and finished T14. Greg Chalmers was disqualified after the second round for violating Rule 4.1a, using a non-conforming club.

ABERDEEN, Scotland — Grant Forrest won his second DP World Tour title Sunday in the Nexo Championship at Trump International Golf Links and got more than just a trophy. Forrest received a video call from the course owner, President Donald Trump. Trump called from his course northwest of Washington, where he was preparing to play. 'I have very good players, but they're not like you, Grant,' Trump said on the call, which the European tour posted on its social media site. 'We all watched you play. What a round of golf. That course is big, it's strong and tough. Your swing is great. And it's a great honor you won.' Forrest, a 32-year-old from Scotland, closed with an ever-par 72 for a four-shot victory over Joe Dean. His other European tour title was four years ago, also in Scotland. It was the second straight week Trump's course along the coast of Aberdeen held a tournament, coming after the Senior PGA Championship on the European Legends Tour, won by Bo Van Pelt of Oklahoma.
