UNC baseball ace named finalist for National Pitcher of the Year award

UNC baseball ace named finalist for National Pitcher of the Year award All year long, one pitcher for North Carolina has dominated over all others. Undefeated ace Jake Knapp, already named ACC Pitcher of the Year, is now one of five finalists for the National Pitcher of the Year from the College Baseball Hall of Fame. Knapp joins Gabe Craig from Baylor, Jacob Morrison from Coastal Carolina, Zan Taylor from UNC Wilmington, and Dylan Volantis from Texas. Three of the five finalists for the NPOY award hail from the Carolinas. Knapp finished his 2025 campaign with a 13-0 record and a 1.98 ERA. In 14 starts and 15 appearances, he threw 95.1 innings, allowing 21 earned runs on 63 hits with 85 strikeouts. Opposing batters hit .186 against the star pitcher. Knapp was tied with Zane Taylor for the third lowest ERA in the nation, just a hundreth over Evan Dempsey from FGCU. The Tar Heels ace also led all of college baseball with 13 wins on the season, tied with Ricky Ojeda from UC Irvine; however, Ojeda lost a game, Knapp hasn't. It is clear why the graduate right-hander is one of the best in the business, and he is getting the necessary recognition on the team, conference, and national levels. The winner of the prestigous award will be announced on June 13th, just a week and a half away. The inception of this award was in 2009, and since then, no UNC baseball pitcher has won the award. Knapp has a chance to not only be recognized as the best, but he can make UNC history in the process. Bill Belichick Sets the Record Straight on Jordon Hudson's Responsibilities at North Carolina

North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick offered some clarity on his girlfriend's role with the Tar Heels. Belichick's move to the college ranks certainly created some excitement around the North Carolina program. The 73-year-old left the NFL as the league's second-all time coaching wins leader at 333 through 29 seasons. Advertisement However, the efforts to build UNC to national contention have been overlooked recently. Much has been made about 24-year-old Jordan Hudson's presence around the program after Belichick took over in January. Questions surrounding the relationship and the potential impact it is having on UNC have largely gone unanswered. Belichick cleared the air on the situation to former NFL defensive back and current ESPN analyst Ryan Clark on Friday. Belichick insisted that his focus is on football, and that Hudson's role has nothing to do with the program. Jordon Hudson the girlfriend of Bill BelichickJim Dedmon-Imagn Images "That's what I do is I stay focused on football," he said on "The Pivot Podcast." "And some of the other opportunities that that come along, Jordan looks at those and can dig into them a little bit deeper. But really what she does helps me spend my time on football, and that's what's important to me." Advertisement Clark pressed Belichick for specifics on Hudson's job description, which appears to include only personal opportunties for Belichick outside of the game. "Well, nothing with North Carolina," Belichick said. "That would be number one. It would be personal opportunities. Could be a a speaking thing. It could be an appearance on this, or talk about that, or somebody wants whatever it happens to be." Belichick went on to describe the email fiasco that made headlines in April. Those emails, which were made public, showed Belichick asking UNC leaders to copy Hudson on emails moving forward. "I sent back an email, 'Can you please copy Jordan on these requests?'" Belichick said. "So that she could at least filter through them because there was nobody. We didn't have a sports information guy. That was taken – because all the emails are shared publicly – that was taken as Jordan's run in the sports information department. I mean, there was nobody to help me sort them out. So I was asking her to do that." Advertisement Belichick is expected to make his North Carolina debut when the Tar Heels open the 2025 season at home against TCU on Sept. 1. UNC baseball among favorites to win College World Series

UNC baseball among favorites to win College World Series The UNC baseball program is among the favorites to win the College World Series North Carolina dominated most of the Chapel Hill regionals, losing just one game with a record of 3-1. Now, the Tar Heels are on their way to the Chapel Hill Super Regional, where they will take on Arizona in a best-of-three series for a chance to travel to Omaha and participate in College World Series. Going into the super regionals, the Diamond Heels are tied for the third-best odds to win the College World Series. According to BetMGM, North Carolina and Tennessee are tied at +600 odds to come away with the national championship. That falls just behind Arkansas at +375 and the leader, LSU, at +320 to win. The Tar Heels beat Holy Cross 4-0 in the first game of the Chapel Hill Regional postseason play. They followed it up with an 11-5 win over Oklahoma, putting up six runs on potential top-five pick Kyson Witherspoon. On Sunday night, after meeting with Oklahoma again, they lost their only regional game, 9-5, to force a win-or-go-home game on Monday.
