UNC baseball ace named finalist for National Pitcher of the Year award
All year long, one pitcher for North Carolina has dominated over all others. Undefeated ace Jake Knapp, already named ACC Pitcher of the Year, is now one of five finalists for the National Pitcher of the Year from the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Knapp joins Gabe Craig from Baylor, Jacob Morrison from Coastal Carolina, Zan Taylor from UNC Wilmington, and Dylan Volantis from Texas. Three of the five finalists for the NPOY award hail from the Carolinas.
Knapp finished his 2025 campaign with a 13-0 record and a 1.98 ERA. In 14 starts and 15 appearances, he threw 95.1 innings, allowing 21 earned runs on 63 hits with 85 strikeouts. Opposing batters hit .186 against the star pitcher.
Knapp was tied with Zane Taylor for the third lowest ERA in the nation, just a hundreth over Evan Dempsey from FGCU. The Tar Heels ace also led all of college baseball with 13 wins on the season, tied with Ricky Ojeda from UC Irvine; however, Ojeda lost a game, Knapp hasn't.
It is clear why the graduate right-hander is one of the best in the business, and he is getting the necessary recognition on the team, conference, and national levels. The winner of the prestigous award will be announced on June 13th, just a week and a half away.
The inception of this award was in 2009, and since then, no UNC baseball pitcher has won the award. Knapp has a chance to not only be recognized as the best, but he can make UNC history in the process.

Bill Belichick's Girlfriend's 'Presence' At UNC Has Reportedly Left GM Michael Lombardi 'Deeply Concerned'
New details have surfaced regarding concerns surrounding Jordon Hudson's involvement in her boyfriend Bill Belichick's career. The duo recently made headlines over their disastrous CBS interview and has continued to garner negative traction since then. Advertisement Now, an ex-ESPN analyst, Pablo Torre, has claimed that the general manager of the University of North Carolina football team, which Bill Belichick coaches, is "deeply concerned" about Jordon Hudson. Pablo Torre Claims UNC GM Is 'Deeply Concerned' About The Veteran Coach's GF Instagram | Jordon Hudson After making previous reports on the Belichick-Hudson saga, journalist Pablo Torre recently claimed that UNC higher-ups have been losing sleep over the idea of the former cheerleader being anywhere near the team as they gear up for the upcoming season. "What if I told you that [Belichick's] inner circle of actual coaches on staff, including a certain Mike Lombardi, is deeply concerned about Jordon Hudson and her presence in the building?" said Torre during a Tuesday appearance on Bill Simmons' podcast, per the New York Post. Advertisement Torre later followed up with a question about whether Simmons had communicated with Lombardi about the situation, given that they share a relationship. "Bill, surely you've communicated with Lombardi about this. So, what has he said?" Torre inquired. However, Simmons, seemingly desiring not to further fuel the narrative, chose not to address the question. Still, that didn't stop Torre from continuing to speculate that Hudson's romance with Belichick may have begun long before the public ever caught wind of it. He noted that the former cheerleader attended a 2021 Patriots game and even sat in Belichick's personal section. That appearance came the same year the pair reportedly met on a flight from New York to Palm Beach. The Former ESPN Analyst Previously Reported That Jordon Hudson Was Banned From UNC Facilities Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson looking at each other (Instagram | Jordon Hudson) Torre's comments come after his earlier report about Hudson being persona non grata at the UNC athletics facility. Advertisement The former ESPN analyst claimed that the order was issued amid the fallout from Belichick's disastrous "CBS Sunday Morning" interview. However, the news was quickly shut down by North Carolina in a statement, where they also confirmed the nature of Hudson's involvement in Belichick's career. "While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University or Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities," the statement read, per The Blast. "Jordon will continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick's personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the University." Pablo Torre Doubled Down On His Claim Despite UNC's Denial Bill Belichick on the NFL field (MEGA) After UNC denied banning Hudson, Torre released a statement reiterating the claim he made. Advertisement "The University of North Carolina can choose to describe or change its position on Jordon Hudson's involvement, however it wishes," Torre said, per the New York Post. "We requested comments and filed dozens of FOIA requests that were not satisfied. And we stand by the specific reporting, which came from the highest levels of the football program." Later on, he took to X to echo similar sentiments while quoting a comment from a netizen. "We broke the news of an important meeting where UNC higher-ups told the football program that Jordon Hudson can't be around the facility anymore," Torre penned on the platform at the time. "Many people around the team heard that message very clearly. You can decide who to trust, in terms of how the PR spin goes from here." The Journalist Previously Reported That Bill Belichick's Family Was Digging Into His Girlfriend Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson smiling (Instagram | Jordon Hudson) As part of his earlier reporting about Hudson, Torre claimed that he had spoken with nearly a dozen individuals who knew Hudson before he came to the conclusion that she was trying to control Belichick's career to further her own. Advertisement At the time, he also shared that Belichick's family is concerned and digging into Hudson as her relationship with the veteran coach continues to blossom. "There is deep worry for how detrimental Jordon can be for not just North Carolina but Bill's legacy, reputation — everything he has built and worked for over decades," a source close to the family told Torre. Seemingly responding to the claim, an X account possibly belonging to Hudson commented "#scapeGOAT," under The New York Post's story that carried the news. The account has also reposted multiple comments criticizing Torre's reporting in the wake of his continued attack on Hudson. Bill Belichick And Jordon Hudson Are 'Thriving In People's Jealousy' Of Them Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson (Instagram | Jordon Hudson) Despite the heavy backlash against Belichick and Hudson, the duo is reportedly not letting it impact their romance in any way. Advertisement According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, the constant criticism they have received "acts as a fuel for their relationship and makes them even more in love." In fact, the pair is said to be "thriving in people's jealousy," a reaction that has surprised many of their detractors. "They both have hit the lottery and are all about each other, and they both feel that they make each other better," the insider added. Speaking further about the lovebirds, the source said that it has become a thing for people to "pounce" on them if there is any "type of misfortune that comes their way." And while their public images seem to be in the mud, the couple is still "happy" and in "love."

SafeSport issues permanant ban on high-profile gymnastics coach in latest chapter of 9-year-old case
DENVER (AP) — The gymnastics coach for a one-time Olympic alternate received a lifetime ban Thursday from the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Qi Han, whose case dates to at least 2016 and who had been under a temporary sanction for the past two years, was listed as permanently ineligible, subject to appeal, on the center's disciplinary database. It said he was found to have committed emotional misconduct, physical misconduct and violated USA Gymnastics policies and bylaws. Han, a former gymnast on the Chinese national team, and his wife, Yiwen Chen, opened Everest Gymnastics in the suburbs of Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2004. The gym quickly gained prominence within USA Gymnastics. In 2016, Han served as the coach to Olympic alternate Ashton Locklear. Locklear told The New York Times in 2018 that Han physically and emotionally abused her and at one point threw a cell phone at her. Han denied the allegations. Several other athletes who trained at Everest came forward over ensuing years, describing similar experiences with Han. As of Thursday night, Han was still listed as the co-owner and head coach at Everest. Emails sent by The Associated Press to multiple addresses at the gymnastics club were not immediately returned. Details from Han's accusers started coming out the year before the SafeSport Center opened in the wake of extensive abuse committed by former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. The Times reported that USA Gymnastics handed Han's case over to the center shortly after it opened in 2017. In explaining the lengthy amount of time it took to resolve the case, the center said in a statement that it involved more than 80 witnesses, thousands of pages of evidence and transcripts and allegations that span decades. The center said it stood by the fairness and thoroughness of the process but also 'remains committed to increasing efficiencies in our process to help resolve cases more quickly.' The center's interim CEO, April Holmes, portrayed the latest development as a sign the center is making sports safer. 'We know it is not easy to come forward, so we thank those who shared their stories and helped bring resolution to this case,' Holmes said. 'This outcome sends a clear message that sport culture is changing and accountability is moving the needle.' ___ AP National Writer Will Graves contributed to this report. ___ AP sports:

Clemson's Dabo Swinney reveals 'secret sauce' he has for Bill Belichick's UNC squad this year
It's a new look in the ACC for college football as Bill Belichick becoming the North Carolina Tar Heels new head coach shakes things up in one of the country's top conferences. Dabo Swinney, the longtime Clemson Tigers head coach, described the conference as playing the "New England Patriots," which includes former Patriots coach Bill O'Brien coming on as Boston College's new leader on the sidelines. Swinney and Belichick had a joint interview with ESPN's Rece Davis, where he admitted not being too worried about the accomplished NFL coach joining the college ranks. In fact, Swinney joked that he has some "secret sauce" to beat the Tar Heels when they see each other on Oct. 4 on the road. Ryan Allen, Clemson's specialists coach, was Belichick's former punter on the Patriots. "We're going to lean on him heavy to figure out how to defeat y'all's punt block team or whatever else," Swinney said of Allen. After the Tigers take on the Tar Heels, they will have to see O'Brien's Eagles the following week. "We play the New England Patriots this year," Swinney said. "We go to North Carolina, and then we go to Boston College to play Bill O'Brien. So, I feel like I'm playing the whole Patriots organization in about a two-week span there." While a Belichick-led UNC squad poses a new challenge for the ACC, Clemson has handled them nicely since Swinney took over in 2018. The Tigers have beaten the Tar Heels 14 times over that span, including their last matchup in 2023 – a 31-20 victory for Clemson. Meanwhile, Belichick is hoping to snap UNC's losing streak against Clemson, which sits at six games. In their last 10 matchups, the Tar Heels are 1-9. Clemson went 10-4 last season in Swinney's 16th season as head coach, reaching the expanded College Football Playoff. They ended up losing to Texas, 38-24, in the first round to end their season. The Tigers return quarterback Cade Klubnik, who had a career year under Swinney in 2024. They also added Tom Allen from Penn State on defense in the transfer portal. ESPN has Clemson ranked 11th overall in their preseason poll. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
