'We are just one big family': How UNC women's lacrosse capped perfect season with NCAA title
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — From the inaugural faceoff in February to the final buzzer on championship weekend, UNC women's lacrosse never took its foot off the gas. The Tar Heels were the gold standard for 2025, and on Sunday, May 25, at Gillette Stadium, they left no doubt they were the best team in the country, storming past Northwestern 12-8 to claim their fourth national championship. Advertisement This marked UNC's first time in championship weekend since their title win in 2022, and their prowess throughout the tournament points to a dynasty in the making. The centerpiece is redshirt freshman Chloe Humphrey. Chloe notched four goals and an assist in the win over the Wildcats on Sunday, bumping her up to 11 goals scored over two games this holiday weekend. MORE HEELS WINS: Tar Heels hammer Tigers, win ACC Tournament championship LIVE UPDATES: See how the NCAA women's lacrosse final played out Chloe also got to win the title with two of her sisters on the roster, Ashley and Nicole. Ashley and Chloe even collaborated for a dynamic goal in the second quarter to put the Tar Heels up 5-1, showcasing the dominant Humphrey connection that's been terrorizing defenses all season. Advertisement 'It's just so awesome,' Chloe said. 'That connection and being able to live out our dream together.' While Chloe gets the spotlight with her elite scoring, it's Ashley's vision that has been setting up the UNC attack all season long. In the fourth quarter, Ashley dished her fourth assist of the game and 90th of the season to set a new single-season program record. 'She's a point guard for us back there,' head coach Jenny Levy said. 'When things are not going right for us, she understands that. She tells people what they need to know.' After watching her sister Nicole win the title with UNC in 2022, Ashley made the decision to transfer from Stanford, where she spent her undergrad years. Ashley became determined to play on the same stage her sister did. Advertisement 'Just having the opportunity to be here is what I really wanted,' Ashley said. '(Winning) is just the icing on the cake.' While she knew she was getting to play with two of her sisters, she had no idea she would make 36 more. 'I have 38 sisters,' Ashley said. 'The entire team, the staff, we are just one big family, and although we have some DNA in common, everybody on this team is a family.' Now, Ashley, Chloe, Nicole and their UNC family can celebrate reaching the ultimate goal. And they did it together. 'It definitely took a lot of sacrifices, a lot of injuries, a lot of comebacks,' Ashley said. 'This is something that no one can ever take away from us.' Chloe put it simply: 'We can call ourselves national champions now.' This article originally appeared on The Fayetteville Observer: UNC women's lacrosse finishes undefeated for NCAA title

What channel is UNC-Oklahoma on? Time, TV schedule for UNC's second regional game
Tar Heels Wire The UNC baseball team can finally breathe a sigh of relief after Friday's Chapel Hill Regional opener, escaping Holy Cross in a 4-0 pitcher's duel. North Carolina (43-12) won Friday's highly-anticipated matchup behind another excellent performance from ace Jake Knapp, who improved to 13-0 after 8 1/3 shutout innings. Knapp only allowed four hits and three walks, while striking out seven Holy Cross (31-26) batters. Walker McDuffie came on for the final two batters after 119 Knapp pitches, striking out one Crusader. The Diamond Heels garnered just enough offense to win, utilizing small ball to their advantage. UNC first baseman Hunter Stokely opened the scoring with a fourth-inning single, driving in Gavin Gallaher. North Carolina outfielder Tyson Bass doubled later in the fourth, scoring Stokely, followed by a Sam Angelo single scoring Bass. In the fifth, Gallaher singled to scoring Diamond Heels captain Jackson Van De Brake. As a result of UNC's victory, it advances to face Oklahoma on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Cornhuskers (32-27) and Sooners (35-20) originally had a 5 p.m. first pitch scheduled for Friday's matchup, but inclement weather delayed the start time until at least 7:30 p.m. ET. From there, it was the Sooners who outlasted Nebraska as they beat the Cornhuskers 7-4. Need a break? UNC baseball rolls past Holy Cross in Chapel Hill Regional opening game
UNC baseball rolls past Holy Cross in Chapel Hill Regional opening game After being selected as the nation's No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the UNC baseball team welcomed in Holy Cross, Oklahoma, and Nebraska to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the Chapel Hill Regional. In the No. 1 vs No. 4 seed game in the first round, the Diamond Heels took on Holy Cross and breezed by the Crusaders 4-0 on Friday afternoon. ACC Pitcher of the Year, Jake Knapp, took the mound for the Tar Heels in the top of the first inning and struck out the side, fanning the entire first inning to set the tone for the game. Knapp ended up throwing 8.1 innings, giving up four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in 119 pitches. Walker McDuffie closed out the final two-thirds of the ninth inning and recorded one strikeout. Danny Macchiarola threw the first 4.1 innings of the game for Holy Cross, giving up all four runs that North Carolina scored in the outing. He allowed seven hits with just one strikeout. Derek Volz closed out the final 4.2 innings scoreless with three strikeouts. Hunter Stokely got the Tar Heels on the board after three scoreless innings with an RBI single to center, scoring Gavin Gallaher. Once the first run was on the board, North Carolina started raining in the runs that inning. Two batters later, Tyson Bass would score Stokely on a double to left, followed on the very next at-bat by S Angelo scoring Bass. UNC would go up 3-0 in the fourth. Gallaher had an RBI single in the fifth inning, scoring Jackson Van De Brake as the final run that North Carolina would score in the game, winning 4-0. The Tar Heels will now play the winner of the Oklahoma vs. Nebraska game on Saturday, May 31st, at 6:00pm ET at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill. What channel is UNC-Holy Cross on? Time, TV schedule for Chapel Hill Regional Opener
What channel is UNC-Holy Cross on? Time, TV schedule for Chapel Hill Regional Opener Here's all the broadcasting information you need to know for the UNC baseball team's NCAA Tournament opener against Holy Cross. The UNC baseball team is just moments away from kicking off its NCAA Tournament run, which begins Friday, May 30 against Holy Cross at 12 p.m. in the Chapel Hill Regional. North Carolina (42-12, 18-11), which finished third in a loaded ACC during the regular season, captured its ninth ACC Tournament Championship with a 14-4 drubbing of Clemson. The Diamond Heels enacted revenge on Florida State during the ACC Semis, winning 7-5 thanks to two ninth-inning runs, but not before taking care of Boston College during a 7-2 win. Holy Cross (31-25, 17-8) beat Army West Point twice, 12-1 and 8-7, to capture the Patriot League Championship. The Crusaders won't be a pushover, despite playing in a smaller conference – and will look to play spoiler in Chapel Hill. UNC, which should win today's game comfortably, has all the tools to make a deep run. North Carolina sports arguably the best pitching staff across college baseball, led by ACC Pitcher of the Year Jake Knapp, plus a starting lineup that generates the perfect combination of speed and power. The 2024 Diamond Heels composed an uber-talented squad, led by Vance Honeycutt, but nearly lost in their Chapel Hill Regional opener. Third baseman Gavin Gallaher played hero in against LIU in that nightcap, blasting a walk-off grand slam and keeping UNC in the winner's bracket. Heading to Boshamer Stadium today? North Carolina will run into some early hiccups, as I see most tournament favorites try to do too much early on, but settle down by the third inning and win comfortably. UNC basketball offers rising three-star shooting guard
UNC basketball offers rising three-star shooting guard Hubert Davis has extended an offer to another 2026 recruit. North Carolina basketball head coach Hubert Davis has his eyes on some rising prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, as evident by new offers on Thursday. After the Tar Heels offered a four-star point guard earlier in the day, they also extended an offer to another prospect. Three-star shooting guard Kohl Rosario was the latest prospect to pick up an offer from UNC, doing so on Thursday night. And the Tar Heels are the latest blue blood program to enter the race. In a span of three days, Rosario has picked up offers from Kansas, Duke, and now North Carolina after his strong play on the AAU circuit. His stock is on the rise as a prospect coming off a big performance in the Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament, scoring 30 points in a game. The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Rosario hails out of Hudson, North Carolina and plays at Moravian Prep. He's ranked No. 120 nationally, the No. 21 shooting guard and No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. In the composite rankings, he's a four-star recruit and a top 100 prospect. His recent play and the addition of offers from blue blood programs should also see his rank increase over time. For North Carolina, it will be interesting to see how much of a priority they make Rosario moving forward.
