The Colorado Rockies heard the noise. Everyone pointed and laughed when Colorado hit 50 losses before getting their tenth win. They heard everyone say that golfer Scottie Scheffler had as many wins as they did from May 2 to June 1. Remember when they had not won a series? Well, it's in the past now. The Rockies picked up win number 11 on Tuesday and took the series from the Miami Marlins. Rejoice, Denver sports fans.
This is not only the Rockies' first series win of the season. It is their first winning streak of the season, at a whopping two games, and the first time they've beaten a team twice all year. It started on Monday when they beat the Marlins 6-4. Catcher Hunter Goodman, one of the lone bright spots so far, led the way with three RBIs.

Goodman came through again for the Rockies on Tuesday, hitting a game-winning homer in the eighth inning. Colorado pitching held on for a 3-2 win in which their bullpen threw six scoreless innings. Their 162-game pace moved from 24.7 to 29.2 with the two wins. While this does not exactly put them in the playoff race, it's good for the team to feel some sort of momentum.
The Rockies were not trying to be good this year. Their one big contract, Kris Bryant, has been an unmitigated disaster. Their pitching is miserable, which is par for the course in Denver, and their young players are not blossoming. Still, they fired manager Bud Black after the dreadful start.
The National League West is going to be a gauntlet, with four teams fighting for playoff appearances. That means the Rockies are going to be a punching bag all season long. If they can become a spunky team, maybe they'll win some games that change the outcome of the season. But until then, the 2024 White Sox better watch out. Their record of 121 losses in a season is in danger.

And the award for the best former Denver Broncos player in the UFL goes to ... Pita Taumoepenu! Taumoepenu (6-2, 250 pounds) signed with the Broncos in 2021, and after failing to make the active roster out of training camp, he spent the season on the team's practice squad. He is a journeyman pass rusher who has spent time with six NFL teams and now plays for the UFL's St. Louis Battlehawks. He also totaled 27 tackles (five behind the line), three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one pass breakup in nine games. Following that impressive season, Taumoepenu was named to the 2025 All-UFL Team. Another former Broncos pass rusher, Andre Mintze, ranked fourth in the UFL with 5.5 sacks in nine games. He signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2021 and initially made the 53-man roster before landing on injured reserve. Mintze went to training camp with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and has been playing spring football since 2023 with the DC Defenders. Elsewhere in the UFL, running back Nate McCrary, who had a brief stint with the Broncos in 2021, rushed for 380 yards (fifth-most in the league) and two touchdowns this spring. Former Broncos quarterbacks Kevin Hogan and Case Cookus both started three games. Cookus totaled 546 passing yards and threw five touchdown passes. Hogan had 500 yards and two scores. Jarrett Guarantano only made one appearance with 29 yards and no scores. Advertisement Ex-Denver punters Colby Wadman (1,335 yards) and Marquette King (1,709 yards) played the full 10-game season. King averaged 47.5 yards per punt with a long of 69 yards and eight kicks downed inside the 20-yard line. Wadman averaged 46.0 yards per boot with a long of 68 yards and 11 kicks downed inside the 20. The UFL will hold conference final games on Sunday featuring the Michigan Panthers against the Birmingham Stallions, and the DC Defenders taking on the St. Louis Battlehawks. The winners of those matchups will face off in the UFL's final on June 14. Following the championship game, NFL teams will be allowed to sign UFL players. Francisco Lindor had a soothing remedy for his broken right pinky toe — a go-ahead hit in the New York Mets' 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday. Questionable before the game, the Mets shortstop entered as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and delivered a two-run double that put New York ahead for good in Denver. Lindor delivers big hit in Mets win in Colorado Lindor sent a cutter from reliever Zach Agnos (0-2) into right field to score Juan Soto and a sliding Pete Alonso. It was Lindor's first go-ahead, pinch-hit RBI of his career, according to the postgame notes. Alonso used a nifty slide on the play to avoid the tag and give the Mets a 4-2 lead. He also added a two-run double in the seventh on a night the Mets were 2 of 15 with runners in scoring position. "That's really special, having a teammate willing to put his body on the line every single day like that," said Alonso, who had a big game with his bat (a two-run double), his arm (he threw out a runner at home in the fifth) and his sliding ability (he avoided a tag at home on Lindor's double). "That's a true pro, in my opinion, and he embodies that." Lindor's pinky toe was broken by a pitch from Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin in the first inning on Wednesday. He sat out Thursday and recovered enough to pinch-hit Friday. He may even be in the lineup on Saturday. "I would like to start," Lindor said. "It's going to be up to the trainers and (Mendoza) and we are going to make a decision together. ... Hopefully tomorrow I'll wake up in a good spot." Lindor is hitting .282 with 14 homers and 38 RBIs this season. He finished runner-up to Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani in the NL MVP race last season. Manaea makes rehab start In Wilmington, Delaware, Mets lefty Sean Manaea made a rehab start for High-A Brooklyn against the Blue Rocks. He threw 36 pitches — 26 strikes — over 1 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs. Manaea, who has been sidelined all season by an oblique injury, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. The 33-year-old Manaea re-signed as a free agent with the Mets for $75 million over three years. He went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 starts last season.
