Coral Windows was established in 1990 by managing director John Valente, and as such it's one of the longest continually operating firms on our list.
The family-run company covers the Yorkshire region and has its own security technology called SmartFrame, which detects intrusions.
Coral is notable for not taking a deposit on work. Founder John says: 'Whether we do a £4k window job or £50k conservatory or extension, we do not take one penny of deposit. The customer sees the product before they part with a penny. We are family run, and have survived several recessions and covid.'
Britelite Windows
Another long-established firm, Britelite has more than 50 years of experience fitting windows, doors and conservatories. It covers the south-east of England.
It has Which? Trusted trader status as the company says Chairman Dominic Baxter regularly reads customer reviews in order to keep service levels high.
First Home Improvements has some of the broadest coverage of England and roots going back to the 1970s, although the company's current iteration was founded in 2008 through a management buyout of the previous owners.
The company offers a generous 12 year guarantee.
Clearview Windows
Trustpilot rating: 4.4
Area covered: The northwest of England including N. Wales, West Derbyshire, South Lakes
Founded: 2008
Guarantee: 20 years on products (roofs and PVC frames doors & glass), 10 years on aluminium and building work
Best for: Best guarantee and plenty of awards
North West-focused Clearview has a decent Trustpilot rating and a generous 20 year guarantee on many of its products.
The firm is proud to have won the Glass & Glazing Federation Installer of the year award for 3 consecutive years.
The first national company on our list and the longest-running, Anglian was founded in 1966. It's changed hands several times since then and is now owned by a private equity firm, Alchemy Partners.
The company covers all of Britain and offers blinds and conservatories as well as windows, doors and porches. Anglian offers to match uPVC window prices.
Famous in North West England for its quirky TV adverts fronted by medieval garb-clad Jeff Brown, who offered regular buy-one-get-one-free deals to customers, and later ones featuring former England goalie David Seaman, Safestyle collapsed into administration in 2023, blaming high costs and weak demand.
It was bought by rival Anglian, but the collapse left some customers with worthless guarantees.
Under its new ownership it offers very similar services to Anglian, with a 10 year guarantee and broad coverage of the UK.
Everest is one of the more famous names on our list, thanks to a couple of TV campaigns in the 1980s and 2000s showcasing its windows at the Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in Britain.
But the company has had a recent troubled history, going into administration in 2020 in the wake of Covid lockdowns and then again in 2024. It is now owned by Anglian.
Its financial troubles left some customers unable to cancel orders and with worthless warranties, although purchases made just before the collapse were fulfilled by its new owners.

Kirkcudbright business continues long-standing support of lifeboat crew
West Coast Sea Products donated £1,000 to Kirkcudbright RNLI at the launch of their new boat. A Kirkcudbright business has continued its long-standing support of the town's lifeboat crew. West Coast Sea Products donated £1,000 to the fundraising campaign for a new lifeboat station extension at the launch of their new boat the Halcyon recently. It is tradition for the price of the first bag of scallops to be presented to charity when a new boat is launched. Director and company secretary, Jackie King, said: 'Spanning three generations the King family has not only embraced the challenges of fishing but also contributed to the long history of Kirkcudbright RNLI, its station and crew, ensuring its readiness to serve those in need at sea. 'Their legacy as fishermen reflects a deep connection to the sea.' West Coast Sea Products was founded by John King, known to many as Jock. He was a crew member on the lifeboat and also deputy launch authority in the 1980s and 1990s, generously providing the land for the current crewroom at Dee Road. Retired crew member and honorary secretary, Rab Thomson, said: 'John King was bowman on two Kirkcudbright lifeboats – the JB Cooper of Glasgow, in late 1959, and then on the Mary Pullman when she succeeded the JB Cooper in 1965. 'I remember when he used his first small boat called Seoladair to learn how to tow a fishing net in the Kirkcudbright Bay waters. 'I had the pleasure to be a crewman on a couple of occasions while I was still at school in 1958. John was present on the J B Cooper in 1962 when the Kirkcudbright lifeboat was celebrating its 100th anniversary.' Jock's son John is managing director at West Coast Sea Products and presented the cheque to Kirkcudbright RNLI lifeboat operations manager John Collins at Saturday's ceremony. And John's nephew – the late Jock's grandson – Jack Finlay is one of the newest recruits to the crew.

Dog owner hails 89p-a-day food that 'improved condition' after vet says 'expect the worst'
Dog owner hails 89p-a-day food that 'improved condition' after vet says 'expect the worst' The bespoke meal plan for dogs has received high praise from pet owners and is currently 40% off The pet food subscription service is offering new customers 40% off (Image: Pure Pet Food ) Dog owners are turning to a natural food delivery service to help their pets get in shape for summer, with some even claiming it's saved their dogs' lives. While recipe boxes like Hello Fresh and Gousto have long been popular among humans wanting to eat healthily, the new service from Pure Pet Food allows our four-legged friends to receive their own customised menus delivered straight to their door. The brand is currently offering a 40% off introductory deal, and customers who have already tried it have hailed it as a 'game changer' for their dogs. The Pure Pet Food subscription box offers a variety of flavours and vet-approved recipes filled with all-natural, unprocessed ingredients, making it ideal for dogs suffering from food intolerances. Owners simply need to add water and stir to rehydrate the food, with some customers even using warm water to serve their furry friend a hot meal. The plan is delivered free of charge and starts from just 89p a day for a fully personalised menu based on the pet's age, weight and any health conditions. Currently, shoppers can save 40% on their first box and 15% off the next two. The ingredients are so natural that when the brand appeared on Dragon's Den, one of the co-owners won over two of the Dragons by eating one of the recipes himself, reports the Mirror. Thousands of pet owners have already made the switch to this brand, with numerous testimonials praising the food for significantly improving their dogs' overall well-being, alleviating skin conditions, and resolving digestive issues. The brand boasts an impressive 4.6 out of 5-star rating on Trustpilot, based on over 11,000 customer reviews. Save 40% on Pure Pet Food Various Pure Pet Food Buy here Product Description New customers can get 40% off the pet food subscription service. Some reviewers have even credited Pure Pet Food with saving their dog's life, with one customer sharing a remarkable story: "We have been on a roller coaster with Muttley since January this year and at 15 years, I thought we were losing him. Scans, bloods, more scans and finally told that he must have cancer, but the vets didn't know where. I was advised to keep him comfortable and expect the worst soon. In fact, they would have happily put him to sleep at this time, as they said he looked worse. "Started him on Pure and have not looked back, I feel it's IBS or some similar gastrointestinal issue, not cancer at all, and when he's poorly, it's a flare up, the vet wouldn't listen to me regarding this at all. Overall, his condition has improved 100%. "He still has occasional flare-ups, but nothing we can't manage. Many people have remarked on how well 'and younger' he looks. He plays with his toys again and goes for walks, all of which had pretty much stopped. This food is a life changer, I tell everyone I meet how it saved my boy and gave him his quality of life back." Another delighted customer shared how the meals had a positive impact on her pet's wellbeing, saying: "I honestly can't recommend Pure Pet Food enough. I love the way you can measure the correct amount your doggie needs, which helps with their weight. Lulu, my miniature dachshund, was overweight and had patchy skin with hair loss. We tried everything, after two months on this food, she is like a different dog, Her coat is glossy and she looks young again, I only wish they did this for humans!" Pure Pet Food is made with natural ingredients (Image: Pure Pet Food ) Someone else commented: "Switching to Pure Pet Food has been a game-changer for feeding my two dogs. Previously, I fed them a raw diet, which led to numerous inconveniences. It required an extra freezer to store the meals, and I always had to remember to thaw it overnight, which became quite a hassle. Besides the logistical challenges, it was also rather costly. "Now I purchase just four bags each month, and I mix it with specialised kibble tailored for my German Shepherd and Dalmatian. The results speak for themselves! Their coats have never looked shinier, and their digestion has improved markedly. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this switch. Pure Pet Food has simplified our feeding routine and ensures my dogs are thriving without the hassle of a raw diet." Not every pet jumped at the chance to dig into these non-processed meals, as one owner shared their experience: "I have to say that the person on customer service was so polite and nice, which was so refreshing. However, my dog, who is fussy, did not like the chicken dog food. He ate it on the first two days with reluctance, and by the third day, he literally walked away from the bowl and didn't come back. I introduced the food slowly as instructed, but after a few days, my dog's stomach was churning, and I don't think it suited him." Article continues below Another customer left a more satisfied four-star review: "Pure provides an efficient service and the product is usually delivered on time. It's an excellent food product. My dog has had serious digestive issues in the past, including pancreatitis and inflammatory bowel syndrome. Since being on Pure, the health issues have stopped completely, and he is thriving. He loves the food too. I can thoroughly recommend the product. In addition, the team at Pure are always available and helpful." HMRC admits £47 million loss in breach of taxpayer accounts
Two senior civil servants at HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) told the Treasury Committee that 100,000 people have been contacted, or are in the process of being contacted, after their accounts were locked down in what they said was an 'organised crime' incident which began last year. Taxpayers who are being affected will suffer 'no financial loss', according to John-Paul Marks, the chief executive of HMRC, the UK's tax authority. Mr Marks told the Committee: 'It's about 0.2% of the PAYE population, around 100,000 people, who we have written to, are writing to, to notify them that we detected activity on their PAYE account.' Asked if this applied to individual working people's PAYE accounts, not companies, he replied: 'That's right, individuals. To be clear, no financial loss to those individuals. Mr Marks added: 'This was organised crime phishing for identity data outwith of HMRC systems, so stuff that banks and others will also unfortunately experience, and then trying to use that data to create PAYE accounts to pay themselves a repayment and/or access an existing account.' An investigation into the matter, which took place last year 'including jurisdictions outside the UK', led to 'some arrests last year,' Mr Marks told MPs. Angela MacDonald, HMRC's deputy chief executive and second permanent secretary, added: 'At the moment, they've managed to extract repayments to the tune of £47 million. 'Now that is a lot of money, and it's very unacceptable. 'We have overall, in the last tax year, we actually protected £1.9 billion worth of money which sought to be taken from us by attacks.' Get your tax return done early and find out sooner if you're owed money. ⏲️ We'll let you know if you've overpaid tax after you file your Self-Assessment tax return and refund you. 💷 File today. 👇 — HM Revenue & Customs (@HMRCgovuk) June 3, 2025 Ms MacDonald stressed the breach was 'not a cyber attack, we have not been hacked, we have not had data extracted from us'. She later added: 'The ability for somebody to breach your systems and to extract data, to hold you to ransomware and all of those things, that is a cyber attack. That is not what has happened here.' HMRC said it had locked down affected accounts and deleted log-in details to prevent future unauthorised access. Any incorrect information has been removed from tax records and officials have checked to ensure no other details have been changed. People affected will receive a letter from HMRC over the next three weeks. Elsewhere, Mr Marks told MPs that HMRC phone lines were down on Wednesday afternoon, but said this was 'coincidental'. They will be 'back up and available in the morning', he added. Recommended reading: An HMRC spokesperson said: 'We've acted to protect customers after identifying attempts to access a very small minority of tax accounts, and we're working with other law enforcement agencies both in the UK and overseas to bring those responsible to justice. 'This was not a cyber-attack – it involved criminals using personal information from phishing activity or data obtained elsewhere to try to claim money from HMRC. 'We're writing to those customers affected to reassure them we've secured their accounts and that they haven't lost any money.'
