Father kills son with autism, 10, family dog and self in apparent murder-suicide in home where missing daughter, 20, was also found dead

A troubled father fatally shot his autistic son and the family dog before turning the gun on himself inside their Oklahoma home — where his wife had taken her own life three years earlier, according to police and reports. Rodney Shippy, 58, who was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, allegedly killed his 10-year-old son, Logan, in an apparent murder-suicide at their ill-fated Broken Arrow residence, the Broken Arrow Police Department announced. Police discovered the slain bodies and the dead pooch Wednesday afternoon while serving a search warrant after concerned out-of-state relatives reported that Shippy's daughter, Alyssa, had been missing since November. 5 Rodney Shippy, his son and his daughter were found dead inside of their home. KJRH The 20-year-old's lifeless body was later found inside the disheveled home. A medical examiner is working to confirm her cause of death, police said. 'We are heartbroken to share that two beloved members of our family, Alyssa and Logan (brother and sister) passed away tragically and unexpectedly,' the children's grief-stricken family wrote on a GoFundMe. 'Their loss has left our family in deep grief and unprepared for the financial burden that comes with arranging their funerals.' 5 Police found the bodies inside the home on Wednesday afternoon. KJRH The grim discovery marks the latest in a series of tragic deaths that have haunted the family since August 2022, when the disturbed father's wife, Lisa Shippy, 41, killed herself at the same West Roanoke Street house, KJRH reported. Five months later, Lisa's mother, Diane Carpenter, 56, was stabbed to death by her husband, 66-year-old Kenny Carpenter, who then shot himself during a four-hour standoff with police in South Broken Arrow. 5 Relatives and neighbors claimed Logan was nonverbal and said the home was 'not suitable' for children. KJRH Neighbors and loved ones, who said Logan was nonverbal, described the family's doomed residence as 'not suitable' for children, adding that the tormented father became increasingly isolated following his wife's death. 'No running water, trash — looked like a completely different house,' relative Patti Williams told the outlet. '[Rodney] seemed to be holding it together for months after [Lisa] passed … then he started estranging himself to everyone.' 5 Trash covered the floor of the home when police arrived on the scene. KJRH While a motive behind the heinous slaying remains unknown, public records suggest that Shippy was on the verge of losing his house, which he purchased with his wife in 2021, People reported. In January, US Bank National Association filed a foreclosure notice on the residence in Tulsa County District Court, citing $135,000 in unpaid principal. Rodney was given until June to respond to the court notice, records showed. As the investigation continues, Williams said the children's lives were savagely cut short. 5 Police have not yet released a motive for the brutal killings. KJRH 'Logan was so smart, eager to learn, everyone who met him loved him,' Williams told KJRH. 'Alyssa was a bright light in this world. She had a beautiful life ahead of her, and I feel like their lives are stolen from them.' 9-Year-Old Fell Asleep While Coming Home from Dental Procedure and Never Woke Up. Inside Her Final Moments

Silvanna Moreno, a 9-year-old California girl, died on March 18, hours after undergoing a three-hour dental procedure An autopsy report revealed her cause of death was methemoglobinemia in the setting of recent nitrous oxide administration Additionally, the autopsy shed new light on her final momentsNew details offer insight into the final moments of a 9-year-old girl who was put under anesthesia for a dental procedure one morning — then was dead hours later. Silvanna Moreno died on March 18 hours after undergoing surgery at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista, Calif., according to a San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office (SDCME) autopsy report obtained by PEOPLE. Her cause of death was listed as methemoglobinemia in the setting of recent nitrous oxide administration. Silvanna first complained of tooth pain in October, according to the autopsy report, and was eventually referred for surgery at Dreamtime Dentistry in Vista. After a consultation, the surgery was booked for March. "The patient was referred to our office for dental treatment under general anesthesia due to her young age and acute situational anxiety," Dreamtime Dentistry's Dr. Ryan Watkins said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. The morning before the procedure, the Southern California third grader had a 101-degree fever, according to the autopsy report. She took Children's Tylenol and her symptoms appeared to resolve. The next morning, she "complained of a headache" but did not appear distressed — and around 10 a.m. local time, she was placed under anesthesia for the procedure, which lasted about three hours. In his own statement, Watkins described Silvanna as a "healthy nine-year-old with a history of regular medical checkups" and said that she underwent a "thorough review of her medical and dental history" before the procedure. Additionally, Watkins insisted that "all medications were administered according to manufacturer guidelines based on Silvanna's age and weight." Watkins said Silvanna 'never exhibited' warning signs of methemoglobinemia, an "extremely rare condition that can occur with nitrous oxide administration," throughout either the procedure or her recovery. "In patients experiencing this condition, there is typically a refractory hypoxemia, which means that even when breathing 100% oxygen with no airway obstruction, pulse oximetry readings will show abnormally low levels in the 80s instead of the normal high 90s," explained Watkins, who said he continuously monitored Silvanna throughout the procedure. After the procedure, she went to a recovery room. During that time, she was described as being "out of it" and "incomprehensibly mumbling," according to the autopsy report. According to Watkins, Silvanna remained under observation "until she was awake with stable vital signs" — and before being released into her mother's care "awake, alert, and with all protective reflexes intact," the child was checked for "oxygenation, respiratory stability, consciousness, post operative pain, nausea and vomiting, and gait." The girl left the office in a wheelchair, according to the autopsy report, but was reportedly able to stand up and be helped into the backseat of a car. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. On the drive home, she fell asleep and began snoring loudly, according to the autopsy report. When they got home, she remained asleep and was carried inside and put into bed on her side, where she was monitored. She stayed asleep for about an hour and a half before her snoring began "quieting and slowing." Moreno's family used her grandma's blood pressure cuff to check her vitals — and as she remained "unresponsive," they called 911 at 4:46 p.m. A dispatcher instructed her family to move her from the bed to the floor and start chest compressions until first responders arrived. First responders transported Silvanna to Rady Children's Hospital in an ambulance and emergency personnel continued chest compressions, supplemental oxygen and other lifesaving measures on the way. She was suffering from asystole, also known as 'flat-lining.' At the hospital, she was "provided additional medications, ongoing chest compressions, and was intubated but her condition did not improve,' per the medical examiner's report. Resuscitative efforts ended when heart testing at her bedside showed no cardiac activity. A doctor pronounced her dead at 5:44 p.m. local time. In addition to her cause of death, the medical examiner listed contributing factors as the "administration of dexamethasone, glycopyrrolate, hydromorphone, isoflurane, ketorolac, midazolam, ondansetron, propofol, and sevoflurane." According to Watkins, those are all anesthetic medications. 'While the Medical Examiner has ruled this an accident, we take this outcome with the utmost seriousness. We are conducting a thorough internal review of this case and are consulting with leading experts in dental anesthesia to ensure we continue to provide the safest possible care for our patients," Watkins said. Added Watkins, "we extend our deepest condolences to Silvanna's family and ask for continued respect for their privacy during this time of grief." Read the original article on People

3rd person arrested in death of Super Bowl reporter in New Orleans

May 30 (UPI) -- A third person has been arrested in connection to the death of a television reporter from Kansas City in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl in February. Christian Anderson, 33, of New Orleans, is facing charges in "his alleged involvement in the scheme that ultimately led to [Adan] Manzano's death," the Kenner Police Department said, according to ABC News. Manzano, a 27-year-old reporter for KGKC-TV Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, was found dead face-down on a pillow in his Kenner Comfort Suites hotel room at 5 a.m. Feb. 5, police said. The hotel is about 13 miles west of New Orleans, where Super Bowl LIX was played four days later. Manzano, a father one one, died from the effects of Xanax, which is an anti-anxiety medication, and alcohol, as well as positional asphyxia, according to the Jefferson Parish coroner. His blood alcohol level was .232, almost three times the legal amount in Louisiana. Previously arrested were Danette Colbert, 48, and Rickey White, 34. Anderson rented a car used by Colbert on the day of Manzano's death, according to police. "Further evidence showed that Anderson provided logistical support, engaged in post-crime communication, and assisted in attempts to financially benefit from the victim's stolen assets," Kenner police said, according to "Additionally, records show Anderson and Colbert communicated extensively following the incident, and that he played a role in the group's recurring criminal behavior." Anderson, who is in custody at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, faces charges of principal to simple robbery, purse snatching, access device fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, bank fraud and computer fraud. Colbert is accused of going into Manzano's hotel room hours before he was found dead. Manzano's cellphone and credit card were found in her home, Kenner police said. Police said the three "played an active role in a coordinated pattern of targeting victims, drugging them, and stealing personal property." Police reviewed text messages and digital communications. Colbert was initially charged with property crimes, including theft and fraud-related offenses. In March, she was charged with second-degree murder after the autopsy results. Colbert has been dubbed the "Bourbon Street Hustler," named after the famous street in New Orleans. Earlier this month, Colbert was sentenced to 25 years in prison in a previous fraud conviction, according to the Louisiana Attorney General's Office. She was given a suspended 10-year sentence after being found guilty last year of theft, computer fraud and illegal transmission of monetary funds. "The evidence was overwhelming that this woman was a serial fraudster and took advantage of multiple tourists and innocent people over many years in the French Quarter," Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill posted on X. "I wish we could have saved the life of Adam Manzano. His family and co-workers remain in my thoughts and prayers. I'm hopeful and confident justice will be served in Jefferson Parish, as well, where Colbert is also facing charges of second-degree murder for Manzano's death." Manzano had posted previous Super Bowls he covered on Instagram.
