Hui said he received written notice from the Australian Department of Home Affairs on Friday approving his claim and that his wife, children and parents were also granted visas.
'When people around me say 'congratulations' to me, although I politely thank them, I can't help but feel sad in my heart. How to congratulate a political refugee who misses his hometown?' he said in the Facebook post on Saturday.
'If it weren't for political persecution, I would never have thought of living in a foreign land. Immigrants can always return to their home towns to visit relatives at any time; Exiles have no home.'
The Home Affairs Department did not immediately respond to emailed questions sent after business hours.
The Hong Kong government said that it was 'against the harbouring of criminals in any form by any country,' in a statement. China's foreign ministry did not respond to questions about the decision.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Beijing last month as part of his administration's years-long push to improve ties with China.
A former Democratic Party lawmaker, Hui left Hong Kong in late 2020 after facing criminal charges over the 2019 pro-democracy protests.
In 2023 Hong Kong accused him and seven others of national security offences, including incitement to secession, and put HK$1 million ($127,782) bounties on their heads.
Australia said it was disappointed by the decision at the time and concerned about the law.
Pro-democracy businessman Jimmy Lai is currently on trial in Hong Kong on charges related to a national security law imposed by Beijing and alleged sedition.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 pm (local time) near Big Grand Cay in the Abaco Islands, according to a statement issued by the Royal Bahamas Police Force, according to Newsweek. 'Initial reports suggest that a 63-year-old resident of the USA was spearfishing when he was attacked by a shark, sustaining severe injuries. He was taken to the local clinic for medical assistance before being airlifted to the United States for additional treatment,' the police said in a Facebook post. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was treated at a local clinic before being flown to the US for further care. His present condition remains unknown. Data from the International Shark Attack File shows 34 confirmed shark attacks in the country over the last 400 years, ranking it at the ninth spot among top top ten globally for shark encounters, according to the New York Post. The attack comes months after the US State Department issued a Level 2 travel advisory for the Bahamas, urging travellers to 'exercise increased caution' amid reports of shark incidents and rising crime. The advisory also specifically warned, 'Stay alert for sharks. Shark attacks have led to serious injuries and death.' Sharks roam widely across Caribbean waters, but most encounters do not end in attacks. Authorities have yet to provide an update on the tourist's recovery.

Australia accused of antisemitism after blocking Israeli lawmakers visit
Tel Aviv [Israel] August 18 (ANI/TPS): Israeli right-wing politicians denounced Australia on Monday after Canberra barred Religious Zionism MK Simcha Rothman from visiting the country, calling the decision antisemitic and a capitulation to Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir labeled the move 'a historical stain and a shame for the Australian government," blasting what he described as 'the gloating cries of Israeli left-wing activists, the collaborators of Hamas, and those who defame Israel worldwide." He warned Prime Minister Anthony Albanese that appeasing extremists would not serve Australia's interests, saying such policies risked 'Britain's disastrous path."Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich voiced support for his party colleague, writing on X: 'Simcha, in the face of all the antisemites in the world, the people of Israel stand behind you and support you. Continue to proudly voice Israel's stance. We won't stop until complete victory!"Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli tied the ban to Australia's recent announcement that it will recognize a Palestinian state, saying the visa cancellation was 'a direct extension" of Canberra's 'disgraceful choice to honor the rapists and murderers of Hamas." In English on X, he described the decision as 'a broken moral compass, discrimination, and a grave assault on free speech."Likud MK Tali Gotliv went further, declaring, 'Australia has been antisemitic from time immemorial," and alleging that the country advanced the idea that antisemitism could be solved through 'a territory without Jews."Rothman himself released a statement blasting the decision as surrender to 'the antisemitism raging in the streets of Australia." He said the Jewish community had invited him for a 'solidarity visit" and argued that the visa rejection was tied to the Knesset's recent non-binding resolution supporting annexation of Judea and Samaria. 'The State of Israel must teach the entire world, including the Australian government, how to fight terrorism and not surrender to it — because surrendering to terrorism leads to more terrorism," he to the Australian Jewish Association, which invited Rothman, the MK was due to speak at Jewish schools and synagogues and meet with victims of antisemitic attacks. The group said the visa was canceled just hours before Rothman was to board his flight.'This is a viciously antisemitic move from a government that is obsessed with targeting the Jewish community and Israel," AJA head Robert Gregory said, adding that many Australian Jews were now considering emigration. 'Israel is fully justified in taking strong measures in response to this and we have briefed contacts in the Trump Administration who are also concerned about events in Australia."Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke defended the decision, telling The Guardian, 'Our government takes a hard line on people who seek to come to our country and spread division. If you are coming to Australia to spread a message of hate and division, we don't want you here."Israel's Foreign Ministry has not commented on the move follows Australia's cancellation of visas for pro-Israel activist Hillel Fuld in June and former justice minister Ayelet Shaked last year. Smotrich himself was sanctioned by Australia, Canada, and the UK earlier this summer for allegedly 'inciting] extremist violence and serious abuses of Palestinian human rights."Approximately 1,200 people were killed and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas's attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 50 remaining hostages, around 30 are believed to be dead. (ANI/TPS)

"Illegal Immigrant": Team Trump After Indian-Origin Man's Wrong U-Turn Kills 3 In US
Washington: Three people were killed on Florida's Turnpike on Saturday after a semi-truck made an illegal U-turn, causing a collision. The tragic incident also set off a tornado of racist taunts thrown at the Indian-origin driver. The incident involved a semi-truck and trailer that jackknifed and landed on top of a black 2015 Chrysler Town & Country passenger van, across the northbound lanes in St. Lucie County, close to the 170-mile marker. The semi-truck attempted an illegal U-turn at an "Official Use Only" bend while it was in the right lane of the northbound Turnpike, TCPalm News reported. St Lucie Fire Rescue raced to the area to rescue people trapped in the wreckage. Despite their efforts, three people in the passenger car were declared dead at the scene. The dead were identified as a 30-year-old man from Florida City, a 37-year-old woman from Pompano Beach, and a 54-year-old man from Miami. According to preliminary reports, the deadly crash was caused by a semi-truck driver, a Sikh man, whose identity has not yet been revealed. Authorities have not yet filed charges, but as the inquiry progresses, the driver is expected to come under legal scrutiny. Highway officials claimed the collision occurred around 3 pm on Monday, when the truck and minivan were heading north on the turnpike. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the semi-truck, which was towing a box trailer, was in the outer lane when it tried to do a U-turn into a section of the turnpike designated as "official use only." According to the agency, the minivan, in the inside lane, was "unable to avoid" the semi tractor-trailer as it crossed "over all northbound travel lanes" to make the U-turn on the access road. The minivan crashed into the trailer and became jammed beneath its left side. The flood of online hostility directed at the truck driver's Indian identity made the tragedy worse. The video of the Indian-origin semi-truck driver driving went viral on social media, making him the centre of attention, with Team Donald Trump labelling him as an "illegal immigrant." "This individual is an illegal immigrant who was granted a commercial driver's license by the State of California - and now, three innocent people are dead. He has been arrested for vehicular homicide, and an ICE detainer has been issued," an X user wrote. Drivers were advised to take other routes and to stay away from the vicinity, where they might expect significant delays.
