Over 34,000 corruption reports, RM31bil seized or forfeited in five years, says Azam Baki
He said that based on the reports, 5,145 investigation papers were opened, leading to the arrest of 5,703 individuals and the prosecution of 2,479 individuals. A total of 1,274 individuals were convicted in court.
"During this five-year period, MACC also seized assets worth RM3.54bil and forfeited assets amounting to RM27.87 billion," he said at the second MACC Accredited Law Enforcement Programme Convocation here on Thursday (June 12).
Therefore, Azam said the role of graduates in the field of enforcement and anti-corruption is of utmost importance.
"There will be no compromise with any offenders of corruption, including MACC members. Harsher actions will be taken should any of you be caught and prosecuted in court," he emphasised.
Azam said the post-pandemic era and global economic crisis have intensified social pressures, widened inequality and created new opportunities for power abuse and corruption.
He stressed the urgent need for highly principled enforcement officers, researchers, educators and policymakers to rise and meet the challenge.
He also urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, academia, the private sector and civil society, to continue supporting anti-corruption efforts not only through enforcement but also education, research, policy development and comprehensive technological approaches.
"We firmly believe that effective anti-corruption efforts begin with the good cultivation of good values from an early age. It starts at home, in schools and continues in higher learning institutions," he said.
The convocation marked the graduation of 74 students from the Postgraduate Diploma in International Law Enforcement: Anti-Corruption Leadership (Level 7) and 176 from the Professional Diploma in International Law Enforcement: Anti-Corruption Studies (Level 5).
The collaboration between MACC through its Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) and Nottingham Trent University (NTU), the United Kingdom, began in 2017, with the goal of producing enforcement professionals equipped not only with academic excellence but also strong ethical and moral foundations. - Bernama

MACC steps up anti-graft drive under 13MP
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will enhance its operational capabilities, including forensic investigations and asset recovery, as part of efforts to strengthen the fight against corruption following the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the emphasis on governance, integrity, and accountability in the 13MP aligns with the agency's commitment to tackling corruption and abuse of power in a more comprehensive manner. "The MACC will continue to intensify efforts to combat corruption, leakages, and abuse of power by boosting operational capacity, forensic investigations, asset recovery, and preventive measures. "Focus will also be placed on integrity education among the public to instil a lasting culture of integrity," he said in a statement today. Azam said the main goal is to produce a society that is principled and resilient in rejecting corruption. "The MACC understands the people's expectations and will carry out this trust to the best of its ability to make Malaysia corruption-free and to strengthen the nation's economy. "The MACC also stands firmly with the government and the people in realising the aspirations of the 13MP, to ensure the country's socio-economic development remains sustainable and benefits the people fairly and equitably." Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) will focus on ensuring transparent, agile and decisive service delivery from civil servants. He said this would be achieved through reforms centred on institutionalising an efficient and effective government, delivering people-centric services, strengthening fiscal resilience, and ensuring impactful spending on targeted groups. "Integrity and accountability must be embedded across the board — not only among civil servants or enforcement agencies, but also across all sectors, including the private sector, statutory bodies, GLCs, GLICs, and civil society organisations. "The Madani government is committed to strengthening the governance ecosystem through legal and institutional reforms, including in Parliament," he said when tabling the 13MP in the Dewan Rakyat.

10 police officers detained by MACC face disciplinary action
KUALA LUMPUR: Ten police officers recently arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Pahang and Johor will face disciplinary action, according to Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) Director, Datuk Hamzah Ahmad. An internal investigation has been initiated, including the possibility of suspending the officers involved. 'This case involves the arrest of police officers in Pahang and Johor. It has been handed over entirely to the MACC, and JIPS will continue to cooperate throughout the investigation,' Hamzah said. He added that further action will be taken once the investigation concludes and the officers are formally charged in court. 'We will await the investigation process until they are charged in court and sentenced before taking further action,' he stated after the 2025 Inspector-General of Police's Meet and Greet Session with the Media at Bukit Aman. Hamzah confirmed that JIPS will proceed with internal disciplinary measures in accordance with standard procedures. Earlier reports revealed that six police officers were remanded until August 6 to assist in a bribery investigation involving approximately RM12,000 in exchange for ignoring offences related to ketum water possession in Temerloh, Pahang. Additionally, four officers were detained by the Johor MACC for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes worth around RM635,000 to overlook illegal gambling activities. - Bernama
