State lags in renewable energy generation despite huge potential
The study by the Jharkhand Sustainable Just Transition Task Force and the Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) assessed renewable energy potential across 24 districts of the state.
"Renewable sources contribute just seven per cent to the state's energy production. While Jharkhand has an estimated renewable energy and storage potential of 66 gigawatt (GW), its installed capacity stands at only 434 megawatts (MW) as of 2024-25 FY.
The gap between the potential and the actual energy generation was due to the lack of detailed and actionable research at the block and district levels," the report stated.
Out of the 66 GW energy potential, the state has an estimated potential of 46 GW from various renewable energy technologies and 20 GW from pumped hydro energy storage. Giridih, Ranchi, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Hazaribag, Palamu, and Chatra districts were identified as high-potential areas for generation of renewable energy and integrated renewable energy planning with district-specific targets for renewable energy were recommended.

New biofuel policy to be implemented soon in Karnataka: KSBDB chief
Gadag: Karnataka State Bioenergy Development Board (KSBDB) chairman SE Sudheendra stated that all preliminary activities for the formulation of a new biofuel policy in the state have already been completed. Aizwal hosts workshop to boost MSMEs
Aizawl: The Mizoram commerce and industries department on Wednesday organised a one-day workshop on the promotion, development and empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Aizawl, reports HC Vanlalruata. The workshop brought together key policymakers, industry leaders and entrepreneurs to deliberate on strategies to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in the state. Secretary for commerce & industries Lalzirmawia Chhangte, in his welcome address, highlighted the workshop as an important platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration and policy facilitation. Delivering the keynote address, state chief secretary Khilli Ram Meena said Mizoram stands at a crucial juncture in its development journey. Emphasising that MSMEs are more than just businesses — especially in a state where over 50% of the population lives in rural areas — he discussed the state's growth potential in food processing, eco-tourism and related sectors. He said 44% of enterprises registered in Mizoram fall under the MSME category.
