‘Omg – how sad' people say as mum-of-two sparks horror by sharing snap of her toddler ‘vaping'

The Sun2 days ago

A MOTHER-OF-TWO has sparked horror after sharing a photo of her toddler ''vaping''.
Alysha Elsom left social media users horrified after posting a series of snaps of her adorable tots - one of which also included a photo of a little girl holding what, at first glance, seemed to be a vape.
3
The snap, which has since taken the internet by storm for all the wrong seasons, sees one of Alysha's daughters dressed up in a cute pink outfit, as well as an adorable bow on her head.
However, what really caught the attention of more than 500k fellow TikTokers was the plastic blue item the tot was holding.
Due to the shape and the vibrant colour of the object thousands of gobsmacked people quickly - and wrongly - assumed that the girl was puffing on a vape.
The experts at NHS warn that vaping is not for children and young people. Their developing lungs and brains mean they are more sensitive to its effects.
Although nicotine vaping is less harmful than smoking, it is not risk-free.
That's why there's a minimum age of sale for vaping products in the UK.
It is illegal to sell nicotine vaping products to anyone under 18 or for adults to buy them on behalf of under-18s.
Additionally, exposure of children and adolescents to nicotine in vaping solutions can lead to long-term negative impacts on brain development, as well as addiction, as reported by Science Direct.
They added that many teenagers who vape experience poor concentration, anxiety, mood disorders and sleep disturbance.
A paper from NEJM in 2022 reported a case series where chronic vaping resulted in small airway fibrosis of the airways - a condition where the lungs become scarred, making it difficult to breathe.

'Did I see that correctly?'
Posted just two days ago, the clip has already taken the platform by storm, racking up close to an astronomical 560k views, 20k likes, as well as almost 800 shares.
Over 500 people flooded to comments in sheer horror, with many totally aghast at what they had just seen.
The 4 horrifying things that can happen to your body after vaping
VAPES were once hailed as miracle devices to help adults ditch cigarettes.
But while the devices don't carry the same risks as tobacco, experts have warned that vaping might not be so harmless after all.
Here are five ways vaping could damage young users bodies:
1. It could slow down brain development
Vaping nicotine can permanently affect brain development in people under the age of 25, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
It said that nicotine consumed during teenage years can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control, as well as increase the risk of addiction.
2. It could lead to tooth decay
Dr Michael Heffernan, a dentist at The Wessex Dental Specialist Care, said most vapes contain dangerous chemical that can harm your teeth and lead to decay.
Puffing on the devices could also lead to mouth dryness, creating an environment in which harmful bacteria can grow.
3. It could damage heart health
However, some of the chemicals found in vapes can be damaging to the heart, with the American Heart Association (AHA) stating that vaping is "as harmful to the body's cardiovascular systems as cigarettes".
4. It could cause lung disease
Vaping from a young age could leave children with breathing difficulties, with paediatric respiratory consultant Dr Mike McKean saying he'd seen reports of people developing lung disease related to vaping.
Researchers from the US also found that young people who vape are more at risk of bronchitis, inflammation of the airways, and shortness of breath.

''Did i see that correctly..?!'' one was baffled.
''no way u guys genuinely thought her baby was holding a vape,'' a second wrote.
''got scared for sec,'' someone else chimed in, as another dubbed it ''so sad''.
''Why is the vape in the baby mouth,'' a fourth commented.
''fully thought it was a lost mary,'' a TikToker said.
After the short clip left thousands gobsmacked, mum Alysha explained what really was going on in the photo - revealing that it was actually ''a toy thermometer''.
This was also backed up by another mum who hit back at the trolls, writing: ''It's a peppa pig thermometer my wee girl has the same thing.''

Six hidden signs of breast cancer everyone needs to urgently check

Most people know that a lump in the breast or armpit can be a sign of breast cancer, but there are six other things you should be keeping an eye out for that are lesser known Breast cancer is the most common form of the disease in the UK with one woman diagnosed every 15 minutes. Early detection is crucial when it comes to the prognosis of the disease, which kills an average of 32 people every day. Many of us know to look out for the most common symptom of breast cancer - a lump in the breast or armpit - but there are six lesser-known signs of the disease that we should be keeping an eye out for regularly, and if you notice any of them appearing then you should organise an appointment with your GP as soon as possible. ‌ Whilst your doctor can confirm the need for further tests or whether there is nothing to worry about, you should never take any risks with your health, and get any changes checked out - it's always better to safe than sorry. ‌ READ MORE: Jessie J breast cancer battle as singer, 37, announces surgery plans after festival show In light of news that 37 year old singer Jessie J has been diagnosed with "early breast cancer", planning to undergo surgery after her performance at this month's Summertime Ball, we take a look at signs you should never ignore. The first sign you should be looking out for - per the charity Breast Cancer Now - is a change to the appearance of the skin on your breast, particularly if it starts to dimple or pucker. Dimpling can look similar to the peel of an orange, the NHS explains. Equally, if you notice a change in the colour of your breast, you should book a GP appointment as a matter of urgency. If it becomes red, darker, or inflamed-looking, then this can be a sign of breast cancer and you may need further tests. This can be harder to spot on brown or black skin, so it's important to familiarise yourself with the normal appearance of your breasts and the surrounding area. The third symptom that you need to watch out for is a change to the appearance of your nipple, which may become inverted - pulled inward instead of outward - when breast cancer is present. Another nipple change that you should be mindful of is the appearance of a rash, which may look a bit like eczema or crusting. Equally, if you start getting discharge from your nipple - and you are not currently breastfeeding - then you should get this checked out as it can be a possible sign of breast cancer. A change in the shape or size of your breast - this may affect only one of your breasts, or both, so it's really important to know what is normal for you and your body so you notice any changes quickly. Pain in your breasts and armpits can also be a sign of breast cancer - particularly if it doesn't go away and is consistently present for an extended period of time. It's normal to get pains that "come and go" and this isn't usually a cancer symptom, the NHS explains, but if it is consistent make sure you get it checked out by your GP.

At-home foot scanner detects warning signs of heart failure

Daily foot and leg scans can predict heart failure almost two weeks in advance, an NHS trial has suggested. The at-home scanner, which is the size of a smart speaker, is attached to a wall and automatically collects images of a patient's ankles and legs each day to monitor swelling. The device uses artificial intelligence to monitor changes by taking almost 2,000 photos a minute in order to analyse the level of fluid in the feet and ankles. This water retention is known as oedema and is one of the three major warning signs that heart failure is becoming severe and could be fatal. The scanner can then alert healthcare professionals to an increase in fluid so they can take action, such as by increasing medication. Results from the foot study, which is being presented at the British Cardiovascular Society annual conference in Manchester, found the alerts came 13 days before a person would end up in hospital because of worsening heart failure. The trial involved 26 heart failure patients from five NHS trusts who were enrolled between 2020 and 2022. They were monitored using the AI scanner and were also asked to weigh themselves using Bluetooth-enabled scales. There were seven instances of worsening heart failure detected in six patients, as well as one death. The scanner, developed by Cambridge-based startup Heartfelt Technologies, is mounted on the wall and typically installed at a patient's bedside. It works without Wi-Fi, and only scans the legs to a height of 50cm from the floor. Signs of heart failure Heart failure is a long-term condition that means the heart is unable to pump blood around the body properly, usually because the heart has become too weak or stiff. It is estimated that more than a million people are living with heart failure in the UK. The three main symptoms that indicate the condition is getting worse are increased breathlessness, weight gain and swelling in the legs or ankles. Dr Philip Keeling, senior author of the study and a consultant cardiologist at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: 'Only about half of people admitted to hospital with heart failure currently get assigned an early review by a heart failure nurse, who can check to see if they are suffering a harmful build-up of fluid because their heart is not working properly. 'Amid a shortage of heart failure nurses, a device like this can be like a virtual nurse, tracking people's health.' Dr Keeling added: 'Living with heart failure can be overwhelming, with all the medications, medical tests and appointments, and the requirement to monitor your own health. 'This scanner, once it is installed, just automatically keeps an eye on you and alerts the heart failure nurse, which is a huge relief.' At the end of the study, 18 of the 22 surviving patients kept the AI device. Prof Bryan Williams, chief scientific and medical officer at the British Heart Foundation (BHF), said: 'This small study suggests a simple device could significantly improve outcomes for at-risk patients with heart failure by keeping them out of hospital. 'This study is a good example of how technology might aid earlier interventions and treatment, by allowing people to track a key sign of their heart health at home. 'Innovations with the potential to transform heart care in this way are a major part of the BHF's goal to save and improve lives of people living with cardiovascular disease.'

Jessie J, 37, reveals she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery in days

JESSIE J has revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will undergo surgery in days. The 37-year-old's shock revelation comes just a month after the release of her songs "No Secrets" and "Living My Best Life". In an emotional post on Instagram she told fans: "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer." She added: "Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word 'early." The singer said she would be undergoing surgery after performing at the Summertime Ball in London on June 15. "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job," she joked. The singer told fans about her hesitation going public about her diagnosis but that she decided to be "open" for multiple reasons. She said: "One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. "I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book." The Grammy nominee, who also shared her ADHD and OCD diagnoses with fans earlier this year, added that she hoped to show solidarity with other cancer patients. She said: "It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse—that's the bit that kills me." Referring to her latest tracks "No Secrets" and "Living my Best Life" she said "you can't make it up" - explaining she had no idea about her diagnosis at the time of recording. Her post read: "No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called 'Living my breast life'? All jokes aside (You know it's one of the ways I get through hard times) This last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on along side it on the sideline's has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… Your girl needs a hug. "Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking." 1
