Nmecha's late penalty earns Leeds win over Everton in Premier League return
Nmecha, who joined Daniel Farke's side on a free transfer in June after leaving Bundesliga club Wolfsburg, came off the bench to slot home from the spot in the 84th minute.
Having won the Championship title with 100 points last season, Leeds played with a swagger at a buoyant Elland Road, but it looked like they would have to settle for a point as a stubborn Everton defence dug in.
However, the decisive moment came when James Tarkowski was penalised for handball from Anton Stach's deflected drive, and Nmecha held his nerve to beat Jordan Pickford, Premier League reports.
Nmecha became the first Leeds substitute to score on his Premier League debut since Alan Smith in November 1998, while he's the first player to score a penalty on his debut for the club in the competition.
As Leeds United marked their return to the Premier League with a victory, the manager Daniel Farke was delighted with the Whites' performance.
'I think overall in a tight game, a hard-fought win but also a well-deserved win from my side,' Farke told the media.
'Outstanding performance. I think we were very dominant in the first half and had nearly 70 per cent possession, 12 shots already in the first half."
'I was a bit worried because especially as a newly promoted side, once you have such a dominant period, and it was more or less the whole first half that we dominated, normally you have to reward yourself also with the goal because at Premier League level one little moment can change your whole momentum," he added.
While Leeds are up and running, Everton will approach their first Premier League game at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday without a point to their name.

Mohamed Salah wins record 3rd PFA Player of the Year award
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has become the first man to have won the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year award a third time. Arsenal's Mariona Caldentey was voted the women's player of the year at the PFA's award ceremony on Tuesday. Salah, who was previously voted the Player of the Year in 2018 and 2022, powered Liverpool to the Premier League title by scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists last season. It was the second time Liverpool had won the Premier League since its first season in 1992/93 and the 20th time overall that the club won England's top flight league, thus equalling the record held by Manchester United. National Stadium gears up for National squash
The 81st HCL National squash championship is all set to be hosted in the heart of Delhi in the National Stadium from August 23 to 28. Even though the venue has hosted domestic and international events in the past, the sheer volume and the number of matches would mean a litmus test. The men will compete first in a pre-qualifying draw of 256. The top 16 from this bunch will then be joined by 16 seeded players in the qualifying event. Eight qualifiers will eventually join eight seeded players in a main draw of 16. Similarly, the women will first compete in a pre-qualifying draw of 64. Then there will be a qualifying draw of 32 which already has seasoned players like Janet Vidhi, Sunita Patel, Urwashi Joshi, Unnati Tripathi and Tanvi Khanna to name a few. The women's main draw will also have eight seeded players and eight qualifiers. Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh are the defending champions in the men's and women's sections. Both have won it twice. Anahat would, in fact, be eyeing a hat-trick. Indian squash has been nurtured by a big supporter in HCL for the last 10 years, when the company first started by supporting the Junior National championship. Thereafter, it backed the men's and women's National championship, at times hosting it at its facilities in the Shiv Nadar University and the HCL Headquarters. 'Indian squash has great potential to make a global mark. It needs sustained support and platforms to grow. Through our collaboration with SRFI, we are committed to building that ecosystem. The National championship is not just a tournament, it is a stage for India's best to push the boundaries and inspire the next generation,' said Rajat Chandolia, Associate Vice President of HCL. The men's and women's champions will get ₹1,30,000 each. The runners-up ₹75,000. There will be a total of ₹7,70,000 prize money, including ₹1,40,000 for the pro coaches event. 'We are excited to have our marquee event at the only SAI squash facility in the country, at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. All our best players are competing, including the top seeds Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh, who had won the Asian Games doubles medals as a team. The National championship is a fabulous event, and we are grateful to HCL for the support.
