Police hunt driver who shot officer during car chase
Kittiphan Pengkhlai fired bullets at a police vehicle while his pickup truck was being chased on Mittraphap Road in Bua Lai district of Nakhon Ratchasima province on Friday night, said Pol Lt Col Somsak Sakhon, the Bua Lai station superintendent.
The chase began after the suspect, a resident of Chai Nat, failed to stop at a roadside checkpoint for a drug search, prompting two officers to go after him. Police called off the pursuit after one officer in the car was injured in the head by bullets fired by the fleeing driver. (Story continues below)
Police on Tuesday obtained an arrest warrant from the Bua Yai Provincial Court for Mr Kittiphan on multiple charges, including attempting to kill on-duty officers.
Also on Tuesday, investigators found the suspect's pickup parked in Dan Sai district of Loei province but did not find the driver or any other items inside.
Pol Lt Col Somsak suspected he had crossed the border into neighbouring Xayaburi province of Laos, adding that Thai police were contacting their Lao counterparts to join the hunt.

Border drones 'mostly from Cambodia'
Most of the drones sighted carrying out surveillance work along the border in recent days originated from Cambodia, according to the Defence Ministry. Deputy Defence Minister Nattaphon Narkphanit said on Monday that authorities have documented all of the incursions, complete with photographic evidence and coordinates. While most of the drones seen along the border came from Cambodia, Gen Nattaphon said the drone sighted in Surin on Sunday evening originated from within the country. Despite the temporary ban on civilian drone operations announced on July 29 to prevent interference with military operations, Gen Nattaphon said some Thai nationals continued to fly their drones along the border area. That said, he rejected the Cambodian Ministry of Defence's claim that several Thai drones were spotted in Cambodian airspace, saying the drones were likely Cambodian ones returning from their own surveillance operations over Thai territory. When asked if authorities know where the drones were launched from, he said the matter will be handled by the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) and declined to give further details. Government spokesman Jirayu Houngsub said those who violate the temporary civilian drone ban face up to a year in prison, a fine of 40,000 baht, or both. He urged private drone operators, such as agricultural firms, to coordinate with relevant agencies to avoid interfering with military operations. The RTAF is calling on the public to report suspicious drone activity to local authorities or via the 1374 security hotline. Lt Gen Boonsin Padklang, commander of the Second Army Region responsible for the northeastern provinces bordering Cambodia, said provincial governors have been instructed to procure anti-drone systems.

Police investigating case involving injured singer 'Peck'
Police are investigating an attack that left popular Thai singer 'Peck' bleeding from a knife wound to his throat after being seen jumping onto the bonnet of a moving pickup early Sunday morning. They have yet to question the singer, who remains under close medical care in a hospital. The incident occurred about 1.30am on Sunday at a petrol station in Bangkok's Bang Kapi district. Palitchoke 'Peck' Ayanaputra was later found to be bleeding from a deep knife wound under his chin, Hua Mak police said. Police apprehended the attacker, identified only as Chutithep, 21, and charged him with causing injury to another person and carrying a weapon in public. Mr Chutithep told police he did not intend to attack the singer but had acted in self defence. He did not know the singer as he did not watch much entertainment. A surveillance camera recording showed the 40-year-old singer, dressed in black clothes, running onto the road and jumping onto the bonnet of the moving pickup, which soon after entered a petrol station. The driver got out and tried to remove the man from the bonnet. Mr Chutithep alleged that Peck threatened him, drawing a reply, police said. Peck then allegedly moved towards him. He felt threatened and responded using the knife, he told police. His girlfriend then called police, and he was waiting there when they arrived. Later on Sunday, Peck's record label, GMM Grammy, posted a statement, saying the singer was in a safe condition, with doctors in attendance. On Monday, Hua Mak police chief Pol Col Naren Kruengsanuk said the case was not complicated, police had ample evidence but still needed more information from the pickup's driver. Peck was being treated at a hospital and police investigators were still waiting to question him, Pol Col Naren said. Doctors had been asked to perform a thorough blood test.

Popular singer injured in knife attack in Bangkok
Thai singer Palitchoke 'Peck' Ayanaputra was injured in a knife attack at a Bangkok petrol station in the early hours of Sunday, with police arresting a 21-year-old suspect at the scene. It happened at around 1:30am on Sunday at a petrol station on Ramkhamhaeng Soi 76 in the Hua Mak area of Bang Kapi district. At the scene, the victim — identified as the well-known male singer — was found with a deep knife wound under his chin, bleeding heavily. Rescue workers gave first aid before transporting him to Kasemrad Hospital for further treatment. Police caught the suspected attacker, a 21-year-old man from Samut Songkhram province, and recovered a 20-centimetre knife believed to have been used in the assault. According to police, the attack followed a confrontation between the two men. During questioning, the suspect admitted to stabbing the singer but claimed he acted in self-defence.
