20 years on, GDA may file FIR against officials for 134 extra flats in society
A GDA panel, set up on the direction of the Allahabad High Court, is set to submit its report to the Authority's additional secretary later this week. The high court is due to hear the matter in Sept.
Officials, privy to the content of the committee's findings, said the panel has recommended "FIR be filed against the architect, developer and the then GDA officials under whose watch the additional units were constructed".

A residents' group of Express Garden that filed a petition in Allahabad high court in May 2022, stating that since 2015, no yearly election was held for the residential society on the pretext that the deed of declaration was defective.
"During the hearing, it was learnt that the promoter had constructed 534 units in place of the sanctioned 400 in the project map," Vijay Rathi, a resident who is also one of the complainants, said.

A single judge bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal, in an order dated Dec 20, 2023, said, "The vice-chairman is to initiate/conduct an inquiry against the subordinate staff who are responsible for monitoring the project in which an additional 134 units have been carved out against the sanctioned strength of 400 units."
Last Feb, TOI reported that the internal probe by the GDA had zeroed in on some officials deputed mostly at the development authority's enforcement wing between 2008 and 2012, and notices had been served to them.
Developer Pankaj Goyal, meanwhile, said he was not aware of any probe by a GDA-led panel against the project. "We did not tamper with the covered area but subdivided bigger flats to carve out 134 extra units," Goyal said. "We are for regularising the extra units as per the provisions of Building Bylaws, 2016, for which we approached the state govt and got the necessary sanction. This will be presented in the court." In 2005, the GDA approved the layout of Express Garden, allowing the construction of 400 flats on plot number 6 of Vaibhav Khand.
The construction was completed between 2008-12.

Sick & alone: Doctor, 80, dies in ‘suicide pact', wife critical
1 2 Nagpur: An 80-year-old homeopathy doctor and his 70-year-old wife, who were battling health issues and rued unfulfilled dreams for their family, allegedly consumed poison in a suicide pact at their residence at Samarth Nagari in Sonegaon police station limits on Tuesday. The doctor, Gangadharrao Harne, was declared dead at AIIMS Hospital while his wife Nirmala was rushed to a hospital in Ambazari in a critical condition. The couple, who lived alone, left behind three suicide notes detailing their struggles, said police. While two suicide notes were meant for their son and married daughter. In the third note, left behind for police, the couple requested that no one should be held responsible or blamed for their drastic decision. Police said the incident came to light around 8am when a neighbour called Shilpa Harne, the couple's daughter-in-law who resides in Bhilai. She immediately alerted Nirmala's brother, Raju Tivaskar, a 56-year-old furniture businessman from Srihari Nagar. Police found empty 100 ml aluminium bottles of Tafgor insecticide in the dustbin. The bottles were sent to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for mental health support and care-giving for the elderly, said police. While Nirmala is battling for life at the hospital, the community is mourning the loss of a respected doctor. Sonegaon police, under senior inspector Nitin Magar and zonal DCP Rushikesh Reddy, registered accidental death.
