Nabbed in molestation case, MCOCA-accused pepper-sprays cops, ransacks Pune police station
Officers identified the accused as Rishikesh alias Barkya Londhe, 21. The police said Londhe was arrested under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) two years ago. The MCOCA law is mainly meant for the prevention and control of criminal activity by organised crime syndicates or gangs.
Rahul Gaud, Senior Police Inspector, Sahkar Nagar police station, said, 'The accused injured himself and pepper-sprayed the police. He has been taken to a hospital for a medical examination. We are lodging a fresh offence against him on charges of causing disturbance in government duty. Further investigation is on.'
Londhe was out on bail in the MCOCA case when he allegedly molested a woman who lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against him at Sahkar Nagar police station. A search was subsequently launched for him.
Officers traced Londhe's location on Thursday night, and a police team nabbed him. He was taken to the station for further action when he attacked the police personnel there with pepper spray, causing irritation in their eyes.

Bombay High Court to hear plea alleging threats to north Indians by Raj Thackeray, MNS
A criminal writ petition has been filed on Thursday in the Bombay High Court against the Maharashtra government, the Mumbai Commissioner of Police, the Election Commission, and MNS chief Raj Thackeray. The petition filed by Sunil Shukla, national president of the Uttar Bhartiya Vikas Sena, a political party, alleges that he and the north Indian community in Maharashtra have been subjected to repeated incidents of hate speech, targeted violence, and serious threats to their lives and liberty. 'Over the past few months, the petitioner has been subjected to grave threats, harassment, and physical intimidation, purely because of his political identity and advocacy for north Indian rights. The situation has reached an alarming stage, with public calls to violence and actual physical assaults following thereafter,' the plea read. He cites multiple instances, including an October 6, 2024, attack at his office in Andheri, allegedly by 30 MNS supporters, and a Gudi Padwa rally on March 30, 2025, where Mr. Thackeray allegedly incited violence against Hindi-speaking residents. Following the Gudi Padwa speech, the petition documents multiple incidents of violence against Hindi-speaking individuals, including a bank manager, a security guard, and bank staff, which were reported by various news outlets in early April 2025. Mr. Shukla states that he has received numerous threats, including phone calls and messages, to 'eliminate' him. The petition also mentions threats received through phone calls and messages in April 2025 by two MNS associates, Mahindra Manji Bhanushali and Avinash Anant Jadhav. The petition includes a timeline of complaints filed by him with various authorities, alleging a lack of action. He has sent email complaints to the DGP, the Commissioner of Police-Mumbai, the Home Minister, and the Governor of Maharashtra on October 9 and 16, 2024, the petition said. He has also submitted a written complaint to the Chief Minister on October 17, 2024. He also sent a complaint to the Governor, Union Home Minister, the Election Commission, the Maharashtra government, and the Commissioner of Police on July 10, 2025, expressing frustration over the lack of action. The petition states that after exhausting all remedies and not receiving a reply, Mr. Shukla filed a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court on April 15, 2025. The Supreme Court, in an order dated August 4, 2025, directed Mr. Shukla to approach the Bombay High Court, leading to the filing of the present petition. The petition seeks police protection for the petitioner and his family and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Mr. Thackeray.

State authorities are expected to implement govt's order banning PoP idols with all seriousness: Karnataka High Court
The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday said that it expects the State government and its authorities, with all seriousness, implement the government's order of banning manufacture, distribution, and sale of idols made from Plaster of Paris (PoP) in accordance with the law. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C.M. Joshi passed the order while disposing of a petition filed by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), which had sought a direction to the Urban Development Department (UDD) and other authorities of the State to implement the notification issued on September 15, 2023, banning PoP idols. While declining to issue any specific direction on the issue of manufacture, distribution, sale, etc., of PoP idols, the bench said that it is not inclined to pass any order as the government notification issued in 2023 in this regard is in force and it is for the authorities to implement their own orders. The KSPCB, in its petition, had said that despite the ban order, there are manufactures of PoP idols, and one in one such instance a PoP idol manufacturing unit, situated at Kumbalgodu near Kengeri, was sealed. However, despite this action, surreptitiously PoP idols in the sealed unit were being removed for sale. However, the government counsel pointed out to the bench that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered in connection with the manufacture of PoP idols at Kumbalgodu unit and further actions are underway.

Maharashtra Man, 20, Was With Minor Girl In Cafe; Was Dragged Out, Lynched
Mumbai: Eight people have been arrested for lynching a 20-year-old man in Maharashtra's Jalgaon. Suleman Khan was with a minor girl at a cafe on Monday evening when at least 10 people attacked him, dragged him out, and brutally assaulted him. The youngster died of severe head injuries. Police suspect old enmity behind the attack. Jalgaon police superintendent Maheshwar Reddy said the 20-year-old met his 17-year-old friend at a cafe on Monday. "They were chatting when some other men came and an altercation began. They took him to his village and assaulted him. He suffered injuries to sensitive parts. His parents rushed him to the hospital, where he died during treatment." The senior police officer said a case of murder has been registered under Sections 103(1) and 103(2) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. While Section 103(1) relates to murder, Section 103(2) is associated with a murder committed by five or more persons. "We have invoked the law against mob lynching. The same day, four accused were arrested. Four have been arrested since. They were produced in court and we have got custody for five days. We have received requests to form a Special Investigation Team. We are looking into them." The incident sparked tension in Jamner, where Suleman lived. Police have deployed additional forces to keep the situation under control. Mr Reddy said there is calm in the area now. Suleman's uncle and a sarpanch, Sabir Khan, said the cafe from where he was kidnapped is located right next to a police station. Suleman, he said, wanted to join the police and had stepped out to fill up a form for a recruitment exam. "He was with his friends. They kidnapped him from there and beat him up brutally. They even pulled out his nails. Every body part had injury marks. After assaulting him nonstop for 6-7 hours, they took him to his village." "They thrashed him again in front of his house. His father, mother and sister rushed to save him. They were beaten up too. Our appeal to the police and the administration is that the family must get justice. Those guilty must be charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act," he said. Suleman's relative said they do not know why the accused attacked him. "Whatever the matter was, they could have taken him to the police. But why kill him so cruelly?"
