SA's Zoalize responds to Miss World 'snub'

South Africa's Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg has responded to criticism from the public following her early exit from the Miss World pageant. The law student – a fan favourite – surprisingly did not make the Top 40. On Saturday, 31 May, Thailand's Opal Suchata won the crown in the finale, which took place in India. In an Instagram Story, SA representative Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg shared a message to her fans. It read: 'I can't wait to come back to our beautiful country. I see all your messages, I feel all your love, and I appreciate you all. We might not have gotten the result we expected, but never let this break our spirit.' The brunette beauty added, 'South Africa, you will always be my pride and safe place'. Image via Instagram: @zoalizevr While Miss World South Africa has not officially commented on Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg's early exit, franchise owner Carol Bouwer did repost a telling message from a pageant fan account. It read: 'Today's outcome was deeply disappointing. I know that many people are expecting an outrage from us. But I do hope that we will keep calm and accept the Miss World organisation's decision. 'Speaking ill will not only reflect on us bad as a country. But also mess up chances for other representatives in the future'. Rigged? Zoalize fails to make Miss World Top 40

South African pageant fans are crying foul after Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg failed to place in the Top 40 of the Miss World on Saturday, 31 May. The law student was a clear favourite in the run-up to the finale, and she even scooped the award for best designer for her gown inspired by SA's national flower, the Protea. Miss World – which took place in India – was won by Thailand's Opal Suchata. Despite being hailed as a strong contender, Zoalize van Rensburg's fans were shocked when she failed to make the Top 40 or quarter-finals. The first round saw over 100 contestants being whittled down to just 40 finalists – ten for each continental region. Africa's finalists were Botswana, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Namibia, Nigeria, Somalia, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Ultimately, Ethiopia's Hasset Dereje was crowned Miss World Africa. Opal Suchata later became the first Thai representative to be crowned Miss World. On social media, pageant fans were shocked that many of their favourites – particularly South Africa's Zoalize – had not made the cut. Pageant enthusiast @the_pageant_prince was shocked at South Africa's exclusion, posting,' Zoalize was loved and the winner on so many pages. And to not make the Top 40, what? It's just not possible!' Others like @ntsxki called out Miss World for essentially rigging the pageant, posting, 'They're eliminating the competition for their pre-determined winner'. Another, @meli0.2 added of Zoalize being snubbed: 'Daylight robbery'. While Miss World South Africa has not officially commented on Zoalize Jansen van Rensburg's early exit, franchise owner Carol Bouwer did repost a telling message from a pageant fan account. It read: 'Today's outcome was deeply disappointing. I know that many people are expecting an outrage from us. But I do hope that we will keep calm and accept the Miss World organisation's decision. Thailand's Opal Suchata Chuangsri crowned Miss World

Thailand is celebrating a historic first. Opal Suchata Chuangsri has been crowned Miss World 2025, dazzling a global audience in Hyderabad, India. This marks Thailand's maiden win at the iconic beauty pageant, now in its 72nd year. Opal, just 22, outshone 107 other contestants from around the world and received her crown from outgoing queen Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic. The grand event, hosted at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, was a spectacle of colour, music, and culture. Bollywood stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Ishaan Khatter added even more sparkle to the night, according to New Indian Express. Opal's victory is a moment of pride for Southeast Asia and a story of hope for young women everywhere. 'After waiting 72 years for our first crown, it's an incredible honour to bring it home,' Opal said. 'I now have the opportunity as Miss World to travel and support important projects around the world. I'm excited to make an impact'. As the field narrowed to the final two, Opal felt a strange calm. 'It was the most intense moment, yet I felt calm. I knew my people were proud of me for reaching that far. It felt like a dream,' she recalled. Opal's gown became a talking point of the evening, as she wore a delicate white dress adorned with opal-like florals. These symbolise both healing and strength. 'The shimmering white fabric and delicate opal-like florals reflect women who choose hope over fear,' Opal explained on Instagram. 'Just like the opal, I shine in my light. Her 'Opal For HER' campaign, which inspired the gown, champions women's resilience and transformation. The Swarovski crystals on her dress, she said, 'sparkle like the inner light that guides us through darkness'. As Miss World, Opal plans to focus on causes close to her heart, including breast cancer awareness. 'If you believe in your purpose, you're already extraordinary,' she told reporters. India, the host nation, had pinned its hopes on Nandini Gupta. She made it to the Top 40 but missed out on the final eight. The disappointment was palpable, but the event itself was a showcase of unity and global talent. Opal's win is a reminder that with hope, compassion, and self-belief, anything is possible. As she put it, 'The soft flare mirrors the ripple effect of compassion—how one heart can awaken many'. The new Miss World will now embark on a year-long journey, supporting humanitarian projects and inspiring a new generation of women. Her message is clear: shine in your light, and never stop dreaming. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
