The summer transfer window is approaching and again one name that always comes up, i.e. Frenkie de Jong has been talked about. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on May 6, 2025, 09:35 IST
The summer transfer window is approaching and one name that always comes up, i.e. Frenkie de Jong has been talked about. The midfielder was approached in each of the last three summer transfer windows by some top European clubs, but he chose none. Despite not getting much game time in Barca, De Jong remains loyal to the club. But there are reports incoming that Liverpool are eyeing a shock move for the midfielder and they are ready to pay €40 million for him. But the question remains, whether €40 million is enough to lure Frenkie de Jong to Liverpool?
As the summer transfer window draws near, one familiar name is making headlines once again — Frenkie de Jong. The Dutch midfielder has been a hot topic during each of the last three summer windows, with top European clubs trying to tempt him away from Barcelona. Yet, despite limited game time and persistent rumours, De Jong has stayed loyal to the Catalan giants.
However, things might change this summer. Reports suggest that Liverpool are plotting a surprise €40 million bid for the 26-year-old. With Jurgen Klopp's successor looking to reshape the midfield, De Jong's composure, passing range, and tactical intelligence make him an ideal target.
Barca's financial struggles are no secret, and while they may consider a sale, De Jong's market value and importance suggest a higher price tag would be necessary. Moreover, the midfielder's deep commitment to the Blaugrana and his lifestyle in Spain might outweigh Liverpool's interest.

Barcelona captain reaches agreement with Galatasaray despite initial doubts

In a surprising twist to Barcelona's summer transfer window, Turkish outlet Fanatik (h/t Mundo Deportivo) reports that club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen has reached an agreement with Galatasaray, signalling a potential end to his long and decorated tenure at Camp Nou. It is known that while the German goalkeeper still has a contract with Barcelona until 2028, he has grown increasingly unsettled due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his role and the club's long-term sporting project. Advertisement Despite Ter Stegen's recent public statements expressing his desire to remain at Barça, the situation appears to be shifting rapidly behind the scenes. Ter Stegen is ready to leave According to the outlet, Ter Stegen is ready for a new challenge, and Galatasaray are keen to pounce. The Turkish giants, fresh off a high-profile coup in the form of Leroy Sane from Bayern Munich, appear to be making a bold statement about their ambitions. Negotiations between Galatasaray and Barcelona have not yet reached the final stages, but the Turkish club's strategy is clear. Galatasaray want to sign Ter Stegen. (Photo by) Advertisement They want to secure Ter Stegen on a free transfer or, at the very least, a symbolic fee so they can redirect the bulk of their budget towards covering his significant wages. As such, it is said that they are ready to offer him €5 million net per season. While letting a player of Ter Stegen's calibre go without a substantial fee might seem unthinkable under normal circumstances, the Blaugrana could be tempted if it helps them clear his high salary from their books and avoid paying out the final three years of his contract. At 33, Ter Stegen still has plenty of years left at the top level, but with Joan Garcia already brought in for €25 million as a long-term successor, the writing could be on the wall. Advertisement Financial fair play remains a serious challenge for Barcelona, and reducing the wage bill is a clear priority this summer. Offloading one of their highest earners, especially if the goalkeeper himself is open to the move, would help balance the books and open the door for further reinforcements.

Wirtz Move to Anfield Opens Door for Bournemouth Star's Return to Bundesliga

Liverpool Move for Wirtz Signals Bold New Era at Anfield Wirtz Deal Sends Shockwaves Through Europe Mail Sport have reported that 'the Reds have struck an agreement for Wirtz that could rise to an English record £116million including bonuses, such as winning the Premier League and Champions League.' It is a statement of intent from Arne Slot's Liverpool, confirming the club's determination to reassert their dominance both domestically and in Europe. Advertisement This monumental move not only reaffirms FSG's willingness to back their new manager but also shifts the narrative surrounding Liverpool's post-Klopp identity. With Wirtz set to become 'the third-most expensive signing in football history,' it's clear this is more than a marquee signing — it's a defining moment. Photo IMAGO Kluivert Emerges as Replacement at Leverkusen Bayer Leverkusen have wasted no time responding. According to the Mail, they have made enquiries about Bournemouth forward Justin Kluivert following Wirtz's departure. The Dutchman, once seen as a future superstar, has finally found form, registering '18 goal contributions in 34 Premier League games across the 2024-25 season.' Kluivert's European Odyssey From Ajax to Roma, Leipzig, Nice and Valencia, Kluivert's path has been one of reinvention. His stint under Erik ten Hag, 'Manchester United manager's first six months with the Eredivisie side,' adds a fascinating layer to his footballing education. Now 26, he appears ready to step into Wirtz's vacated shoes. Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp in May 2024, will be eager to embed a player whose technical intelligence and flair seem tailor-made for Liverpool's next chapter. Our View – EPL Index Analysis If this deal goes through, it is impossible not to be absolutely buzzing. Wirtz is a generational talent, and to see Liverpool moving for someone who could cost £116 million shows we're finally shopping at the top table again. Under Klopp, we thrived with clever buys. Now under Slot, we're adding elite firepower. Advertisement The lad has everything — creativity, end product, swagger — and he's only 22. Imagine him combining with Szoboszlai and Mac Allister behind Darwin or Jota. That's frightening. And with Salah likely entering his last year, bringing in Wirtz feels like a passing of the torch moment. There's risk, of course. £116 million is eye-watering. But this is the kind of calculated risk you take if you want to beat Manchester City, not just compete with them. We needed a new era. Slot and Wirtz together might just be the spark. As for Kluivert going to Leverkusen? Good move for them, but we've done the right business here. We've gone and got the better player, and crucially, we've got him early.

LaLiga side want deal for Liverpool forward

Liverpool are plotting a MAJOR attacking overhaul this summer. Among the arrivals is expected to be Florian Wirtz, with a deal finally agreed with Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old is set to become a cornerstone of a new era at Anfield - and comes with a hefty price tag that could potentially reach £116m. Advertisement But sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot won't stop there. A new No9 is also planned as the club would like an upgrade on Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota. Sales - including Nunez and Jota - will help furnish incomings like Wirtz and potentially a new striker. But it's not just Liverpool's current selection of No9s at risk. Federico Chiesa could leave this summer Wingers - including Luis Diaz and Ben Doak - could also be sacrificed. Diaz, 28, is of interest to Barcelona and teams in Saudi Arabia while Doak could command a useful fee if he's sold to another Premier League team. But the biggest uncertainty currently surrounds Federico Chiesa. The Italian winger joined the Reds less than a year ago - on a £12.5m deal from Juventus. Advertisement Although he can count himself as a Premier League winner, the 27-year-old endured a poor campaign on a personal level. The Euro 2020 winner played in only SIX league games - for a total of 104 minutes - and failed to win over the doubters on his rare starts in other competitions either. Back in January it was speculated that Chiesa would cut his Liverpool adventure short and return to Serie A. © IMAGO Real Betis want Chiesa The transfer noise has increased once again during this off-season - but the forward may well have an opportunity to test himself in a different environment. That's because according to a new report in Fichajes, Real Betis have got plans to add Chiesa on loan next season. Advertisement 'The Italian winger, who failed to establish himself at Liverpool, is now in the sights of the Betis, who see him as a market opportunity to strengthen their attack,' reads a report. 'Manuel Pellegrini has reportedly approved a possible loan move, convinced that the Italian international would fit perfectly into his offensive system.' Betis had a very good season - finishing sixth and qualifying for the Europa League as well as earning a runners-up spot in the Conference League. But they are losing talisman Antony - who is returning to Manchester United after a successful loan. Chiesa would presumably come to the club as an Antony replacement on the right wing.
