Hong Kong, China swimmers Siobhan Haughey and Ian Ho have won silver medals on the first day of the second leg of 2025 Mare Nostrum Swimming Tour in Barcelona.
In preliminary races, Haughey finished in 55.18 seconds in the 100m freestyle to qualify for the finals with the second best time but failed to make it to the 100m breaststroke finals by logging 1 minute 8.74 seconds to finish only 10th overall.
The SAR swimming star improved on her time in the 100m freestyle final, finishing in 53.88 seconds to earn silver behind the Netherlands' Milou van Wijk.
In the men's 50m freestyle heats, Ho clocked 22.35 seconds, qualifying second overall among 76 swimmers – just 0.16 seconds behind the top-seeded Abdelrahman Elaraby of Egypt.
Like Haughey, Ho too swam faster in the finals but his 22.15 seconds only got him a silver behind Elaraby's winning time of 21.94 seconds.
In the first leg in Monaco, Haughey dominated with double gold in the women's 100m and 200m freestyle, while Adam Chillingworth secured silver in the men's 200m breaststroke.

"The exact number cannot be told now. We appeal to the people to remain calm." Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the tragedy as "heartrending" as he offered condolences to the victims' families. Broadcasters showed police rushing away from crowds carrying young children in their arms, who had seemingly fainted. One unattended young man was sitting in an ambulance struggling to breathe. India's NDTV broadcaster said at least 11 people were killed, while The Times of India newspaper reported seven dead. "This is not a controllable crowd," Shivakumar said, speaking to reporters. "The police were finding it very difficult... I apologise to the people of Karnataka and Bengaluru. "We wanted to take a procession, but the crowd was very uncontrollable... the crowd was so much." Cricket fans had come out to celebrate and welcome home their heroes, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, after they beat Punjab Kings in a roller-coaster Indian Premier League cricket final on Tuesday night. Organisers pressed ahead with the ceremony, with the team's social media account posting a video of cheering crowds as the bus full of the players – including batting legend Virat Kohli – waved back. But IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, speaking to NDTV, said organisers in the stadium had not been told about the stampede. "At the time of the celebrations inside the stadium officials there did not know what had happened... I would like to send my heartfelt condolences," Dhumal said. File photo: AFP Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from Serie A side AC Milan on a five-year contract worth 55 million euros, a team source confirmed on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Reijnders joined Milan in 2023 on a five-year contract, which he further extended until 2030 in March. He has made 104 appearances for the club in all competitions, winning one Italian Supercup title. He impressed during the 2024-25 season, scoring 15 goals in all competitions as he was named the Serie A's best midfielder, despite Milan finishing eighth in the league. Reijnders has also made 22 appearances for the Netherlands. His signing will boost Pep Guardiola's options in midfield following Kevin De Bruyne's departure, who will leave after a decade at the club having lifted six Premier League titles, as well as winning the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2023. City finished third in the 2024-25 Premier League season and only secured a Champions League berth on the final day of the campaign.
