Rajasthan State Ranking Badminton: Manish Phogat, Parul Choudhary, Somyaa Bhatnagar bag maiden singles titles; Jangjeet Singh Kajla wins double crown

Time of India6 days ago
Jaipur: Top seed Manish Phogat lived up to his billing to claim his maiden men's singles title in the Rajasthan State Ranking Badminton tournament which concluded at the Sawai Man Singh Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.
Nineteen-year-old Manish overcame mid-match slump to stop the impressive run of unseeded Kartik Jain in a well-contested summit clash.
Manish, a trainee of the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru, displayed an excellent all-round performance to secure a 21-7, 16-21, 21-8 win in the final.
Before entering the final, Kartik had knocked out two seeded players -- Daksh Bhati in the quarters and Aryan Tyagi in the semis.
However, the Jaipur lad found Manish too hot to handle despite winning the second game.
As expected, the women's singles crown was grabbed by unseeded Parul Choudhary, who outclassed top seed Suhasi Verma 21-8, 21-8 without much discomfort.
Playing her first Senior State tourney, international shuttler Parul made it memorable with her maiden title at the senior category.
However, top seed Parul of Churu retired in the U-19 girls singles final against Somyaa Bhatnagar.

Jaipur girl Somyaa was leading 5-3 in the first game when southpaw Parul decided to concede the match citing severe pain in her legs.
After finishing runner-up in the women's singles last year, it was Somyaa's first junior state singles title.
In the U-19 boys singles final, second seed Gurtej Singh Vasir staged a remarkable comeback to down fifth seed Jangjeet Singh Kajla 17-21, 21-14, 21-9.
However, Jangjeet clinched a double crown by emerging champion in the U-19 boys doubles with Arnav Sharma and U-19 mixed doubles with Kavya Swami.
Manish, who was one of the chief architects of Rajasthan winning the North Zone title last year, was delighted to win his maiden men's singles title.
"It's a very good feeling to be a state senior champion. I was the state junior champion earlier and wanted to win in the senior section as well. My opponent in the final Kartik won the second game because I was feeling tired after playing a couple of tough matches in the last few days.
I hope to carry my fine form in the upcoming All India tournaments," Manish told TOI after the triumph.
Rajasthan's top two singles players -- Sanskar Saraswat and Pranay Katta -- surprisingly decided to skip the tournament.

IND vs ENG: 'Sundar's dominance shattered England's momentum - Coach Senthilnathan on last-wicket stand

Washington Sundar after India sealed the win at The Oval (Images via X/@Sundarwashi5) Team India defeated England by six runs in the fifth Test at The Oval, recording their narrowest win by runs in Test cricket. All-rounder Washington Sundar played a crucial role in the triumph, stitching a last-wicket partnership of 39 runs off 25 balls with Prasidh Krishna during the visitors' second innings. Sundar took charge in a crucial scenario, scoring all 39 runs single-handedly during his 46-ball 53, which enabled India to set a target of 374 runs. The all-rounder recorded his half-century in 39 balls during the knock, comprising four fours and as many sixes. The Test series witnessed its fair share of controversy, with the English players especially seen attempting to unsettle the Indian players through verbal volleys. Sundar remained calm, smashing some big hits in a strong response with the bat during the crucial last-wicket partnership. The all-rounder smashed three sixes in five balls at one point, further hitting pacer Gus Atkinson for three consecutive boundaries during his knock. England were in a strong position when Mohammed Siraj got dismissed but Sundar's dominant batting shattered their momentum. I certainly believe his knock played a key role in India's triumph," said the cricketer's childhood coach M. Senthilnathan, in an exclusive interaction with "Sundar responds in a fitting manner with his performances despite being very aggressive internally which is a strong attribute. He held one end and showed initiative with the bat, adding some extremely valuable runs. During the training sessions conducted before the Test series against England, I told Sundar to focus on batting as long as possible and grinding it out. There was specific encouragement towards leaving the ball and resisting the temptation to play shots if the occasion demands. Sundar certainly adapted his approach based on the situation quite astutely, " added Senthilnathan, who is currently Tamil Nadu's head coach. Former Tamil Nadu assistant coach R. Prasanna, who has closely witnessed Sundar's journey, highlighted his improved range of shots as a major factor behind his dominance with the bat. Poll How do you feel about Washington Sundar's approach to handling verbal volleys from England players? He handled it excellently He should have responded verbally "He used to excel earlier in hitting shots with a straight bat but his horizontal gameplay has also become a key weapon which certainly reflected during his knock in the second innings. Sundar has always been very calm and composed and handled the pressure of the situation very astutely. He has been working hard on his fitness in recent times and that has certainly enabled him to excel across departments. Number five would be the perfect position for Sundar in Test cricket. His dominance with the bat is a stellar example of the impact delivered," stated Prasanna. Sundar scored 284 runs in four matches at an average of 47.33 during the Test series, accounting for seven dismissals. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

This year's identity is not just a tribute to the Kingdom's founding but also a celebration of the collective character and vision shaping its present and future. Theme and National Identity: A Tribute to Values and Character The 95th National Day identity was officially announced by Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and the Saudi Boxing Federation, through his account on X. The slogan, 'Our Pride is in Our Nature', was introduced alongside a comprehensive identity guide, now available at the GEA's official National Day website . This year's campaign underscores the traits that form the backbone of the Saudi identity, generosity, ambition, authenticity, unity, vision, and hospitality. These values are not presented as abstract concepts but as lived qualities deeply ingrained in the Saudi way of life. The identity seeks to foster a stronger emotional and cultural connection to the nation's history and people, reinforcing a sense of shared belonging while also aligning with the country's forward-looking development ambitions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Paras Sector 59 Gurgaon | Luxury Awaits at Paras Floret Paras The Florett Book Now Undo Alalshikh called on both government and private institutions to adopt and implement the identity across all media and platforms. This comprehensive toolkit ensures that both public and private sectors maintain visual cohesion in their National Day messaging, reinforcing a consistent nationwide brand experience. Legacy and Historical Context of National Day Saudi Arabia celebrates its National Day annually on September 23, commemorating the unification of the Kingdom under King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud. The path to unification began when King Abdulaziz recaptured Riyadh, his ancestral capital; on 15 January 1902 ( 5 Shawwal 1319 AH ). After over three decades of unification efforts, a Royal Decree was issued on 17 Jumada Al-Ula 1351 AH ( corresponding to 21 May 1932 ), declaring the consolidation of all regions under the name 'Kingdom of Saudi Arabia'. The formal proclamation took place on Thursday, 21 Jumada Al-Ula ( 23 September 1932 ), corresponding to September 23, 1932, a date now commemorated each year as Saudi National Day. The occasion is marked by nationwide celebrations, cultural events, and civic participation, honoring both the historical journey and the current path toward transformation and growth. Continuity from Last Year's Theme In 2024, the GEA had launched the slogan 'We Dream and Achieve' for the 94th National Day. That theme was a direct nod to Vision 2030, the Kingdom's long-term strategic plan focused on economic diversification, innovation, and societal progress. This year's transition from aspiration ("We Dream and Achieve") to identity and character ("Our Pride is in Our Nature") reflects a maturing national narrative, one that not only looks toward the future but also draws strength from its cultural roots and collective spirit.
