The Jordanian Marathon Association (Run Jordan), in collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) and the Central Traffic Department, announced the closure of several roads in preparation for the Dead Sea Ultra Marathon, scheduled for Friday, April 11, 2025.
Starting at midnight on Friday, all routes leading to the ultra-marathon will be closed until 1:00 PM on the same day. Specific closures include:
The road from the Rama traffic signals toward the Baptism Site Junction will be closed in one direction from 12:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The route from the Baptism Site Junction toward the hotels and Amman Tourist Beach will be closed in one direction from 2:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The main road leading to the Baptism Site will be fully closed from 2:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
The road between the checkpoint and the hotel area will be partially closed from 12:00 AM and completely closed from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
To facilitate traffic, authorities have designated alternative routes for drivers:
For King Hussein Bridge: Use the Southern Shuna Road from Rama Junction heading right, or from Sea Level Point to Kafrein Dam and then Southern Shuna to the bridge.
To reach the Baptism Site: Travel from Rama Junction toward Southern Shuna and then take the road leading to King Hussein Bridge, turning right before the bridge toward the farms.
The hotel street will permit cautious driving against the flow of traffic from RAMa Junction to Amman Tourist Beach, allowing for two-way travel.
From the south towards Amman, drivers can take the Panorama Dead Sea Complex.
The Dead Sea Ultra Marathon will feature three main events: the individual 50 km ultra-marathon, the 50 km relay, and a 21 km race. The races are set to begin at 6:00 AM at Amman Tourist Beach, while the 10 km race will start at 9:00 AM from 2 km away from the Baptism Site.

This annual event, held with wide participation from local and international runners, underscores Jordan's geographic importance as a key destination for tourism and sports. The marathon is held in accordance with international federation standards, with a primary focus on ensuring the safety of all runners. The Run Jordan stated that all roads leading to the ultra marathon course will be closed from midnight on Friday until 1:00pm on the same day.
