Former Boston Celtics forward criticizes Kristaps Porzingis

Yahoo18-06-2025
With the Celtics in the thick of trade rumors, just about everyone seemingly has an opinion on what Boston's front office should do this summer. The C's are looking to shed salary off their payroll, so the roster will look different. It's just a question of who exactly could be moved and what return the Celtics will get in any trades.
Marcus Morris Sr. was blunt when asked about the Celtics' future on an appearance on Yahoo! Sports' "Good Word With Goodwill." The former C's forward made it clear what he thinks about current big man Kristaps Porzingis, specifically. Morris played for the Celtics from 2017-19, playing in a total of 832 career NBA games.

'I don't think they need any major changes,' Morris said. 'I'm going to be candid because I'm on the media's side. Porzingis is not a Celtic. Porzingis doesn't embody what they need from him. That's not no knock to him; I know he has injuries. I think you definitely dangle him to see what you can get. But I don't think you can get that much, to be honest, the way this league is going on.'
Porzingis has played the past two seasons in Boston, and while he's shown his otherworldly talent, he just hasn't been consistently healthy. That was again the case publicly during the East semifinals against the Knicks. Porzingis was bogged down significantly by his illness during the series as the Celtics were upset in six games.
Porzingis is one guy who could be moved this summer, though it also depends on what the Celtics could get back for him. While the C's know about his injury history, so does the rest of the league. With one year and $30.7 million left on his contract, it remains to be seen what teams are willing to give up for the talented big man.
The Celtics are also shopping other names like Jrue Holiday and Sam Hauser, while potentially listening to offers for some of their core guys. That's part of the uncertainty when it comes to this summer as, depending on the haul, a key piece could be unexpectedly traded. But, for now, the Celtics front office is doing their due diligence ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft.

'Jrue Holiday, I feel like Jrue still has a ton of years left in him,' Morris said. 'Wherever Jrue goes, he's still going to be able to help a team. The things he brings to the team is unmatched. Defensively, scoring, being able to guard multiple positions. I'm a little skeptical about trading the Jrue thing, but I know they just kind of want to open their books. They got a lot of money on the books.'

Who are the walk on quarterbacks on LSU football's roster?

LSU football quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is locked into LSU's QB1 job. LSU expects to have one of college football's top passing attacks with Nussmeier leading the charge. It's always a plus for an offense when it knows who its starter is at QB. The offseason is spent on developing the offense rather than sorting out personnel. Down the depth chart, there are more questions. LSU signed transfer QB Michael Van Buren from Mississippi State. Van Buren started as a freshman at Mississippi State in 2024 and gives LSU another QB on the roster with SEC experience. The Tigers also return Colin Hurley, who took a redshirt in 2024 and missed spring practice recovering from an injury. Hurley is healthy again and has been with the team for the entirety of fall camp. LSU head coach Brian Kelly said Van Buren and Hurley have had their moments, but he wants to see more consistency. Also listed as a quarterback is Ju'Juan Jennings. But with LSU's running back depth being tested, Jennings might get more reps there. LSU has enough QBs on the roster to navigate the season, even with injuries, but let's check out who LSU has on the roster as a walk-on quarterback for the 2025 season. Emile Picarella, three-star, class of 2025 LSU didn't sign a scholarship quarterback in the class of 2025, so it bolstered the depth with the addition of Emile Picarella from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge. Picarella was a three-star and ranked as the No. 83 QB in the country, per the Rivals Industry Rankings. Picarella earned the attention of several SEC teams early in his recruitment and had chances to take a scholarship at a lesser program, but Picarella opted to play SEC football in his hometown. Tre People, three-star, class of 2025 People was another addition in the class of 2025, but LSU went all the way to California to find him. Per Rivals, People was the No. 2575-ranked player and No. 159-ranked quarterback. People had offers from UNLV and Portland State. He drew some Power Four looks at different points during his recruitment. This article originally appeared on LSU Wire: Two walk-on quarterbacks providing depth to LSU football QB room

Outside The Confines: Making history

Good morning. On Saturday, Jen Pawol became the first woman to umpire a regular-season major league game. Elizabeth Muratore reports on her experience on her first day. And on Sunday, Pawol became the first woman to call balls and strikes in a regular season major league game. She got generally good marks from the players and coaches on both side. I thought her best feature was the way she made her calls 'big' so we could see what she was calling without going Enrico Pallazzo on us. Shanthi Sepe-Chepuru with the story. Pawol did have to rebound from a poor first strike call. Call it first-pitch jitters. I missed the first pitch, but I watched most of the rest of the game and I only saw one more egregious bad call behind the plate. Overall, if you go by this metric, Pawol was pretty average, which is impressive for your first major league game behind the plate. Charles Odum has more reaction from baseball about Pawol's debut. David O'Brien gets the recap of the three games Pawol called and her reaction and the reaction of her crew chief, Chris Guccione. (The Athletic sub. req.) David Schoenfield puts teams in tiers as to how likely they are to make the playoffs. The Cubs are still a 'lock' in his view. The two New York teams are reeling at the moment, with both teams just barely holding on to the final Wild Card spot in their respective leagues. Mike Axisa looks at what's gone wrong with the Yankees. Chris Kirchner reports that the Yankees firmly believe they can turn things around (The Athletic sub. req.). Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera tore his Achilles tendon in the Yankees Old-Timers Game. So Rivera is out for the rest of the year and part of next season, which would be a real concern for the Yankees were it still the year 2000. The Mets have lost seven in a row. Will Sammon writes that the Mets should be worried (The Athletic sub. req.) and that their starting pitching is the biggest concern. First baseman Pete Alonso tied the Mets' franchise record for home runs, matching Darryl Strawberry's total of 252. Anthony DiComo and Ryan Herrera write of how Alonso has come to personify power for the Mets. Martin Gallegos reports on how Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz is becoming a superstar in his rookie season. Jake Mintz traces how first baseman Andrew Vaughn went from one of the worst players in the majors with the White Sox to a slugging star with the Brewers. Michael Baumann investigates the adjustments that Vaughn has made since joining the Brewers. Baumann also looks at how Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette is having a great comeback season, just in time for free agency. Giants right-hander Justin Verlander became just the tenth player to strike out 3500 batters. The Mariners retired Ichiro Suzuki's number 51. Ichiro thanked Randy Johnson for giving his blessing to wear 51. Josh Kirshenbaum reports. Jayson Stark has his semi-regular piece on the 'Weird and Wild' in baseball. (The Athletic sub. req.) Athletics outfielder Carlos Cortes throws left-handed in right field, but he moved to the infield yesterday to play an inning at third base right-handed. Martin Gallegos with the story. More on that Garcia catch. More on Profar's home run robbery. Padres third baseman Manny Machado tried the hidden-ball trick and ended up balking in a run. All the teams in the Little League World Series. Davy Andrews examines why ground ball rates are dropping, and it's not entirely because of the hitters. Gabe Lacques looks at how the cry of 'Sell the team!' has spread throughout fans of around a dozen teams this year. Regulators in Ohio are considering banning prop bets like the ones that allegedly got Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz suspended. I love how the gaming industry breaks out the cry 'If you ban them, they'll just go to illegal offshore bookmakers' and the offshore bookies say, paraphrasing, 'We don't take those bets. They're too easy to fix.' Theo DeRosa does some investigative reporting and asks catchers how they deal with the agony of getting hit by foul tips. Rustin Dodd talks to retired outfielder and current broadcaster Jeff Francoeur about what makes a good teammate. (The Athletic sub. req.) Francoeur had that 'great teammate' designation when he played. And finally, Astros pitcher Jason Alexander took the mound to face the Yankees this weekend. Did the YES crew make some Seinfeld jokes? Of course they did.
