Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition arrives alongside price cuts across the MY25 ute lineup
The entry-level Amarok Core TDI405 Core is now priced at $55,990 drive-away – $1000 more than its previous list price which did not include on-road costs, effectively making it up to $4000 cheaper than before.
The biggest cut, as predicted by CarExpert, has been applied to the only petrol model grade, the Amarok TSI452 Aventura, which now costs $79,990 drive-away (previously $82,990 plus on-roads).

The limited-edition 10 Deserts Edition TDI500 joins the lineup at $69,990 drive-away, positioned between the Amarok Life TDI500 ($61,990 drive-away) and the Style TDI500 ($72,740 drive-away).
The new model grade was inspired by the Guiness World Record set by a Volkswagen Amarok – using a modified V6 – after it crossed Australia's 10 deserts in six days and 17 hours.
'With the 10 Deserts Edition, the refinement of the Amarok has been given a tougher edge, offering genuine off-road ability and benchmark ground clearance, while still being a premium-appointed ute that drivers want to be in,' said Volkswagen Australia commercial vehicles product manager Michael Cenci.
The 10 Deserts Edition brings off-road focused upgrades including 17-inch satin black wheels wrapped in Continental ATR (all-terrain) tyres, a 40mm suspension lift and extra underbody protection.
The changes bring 275mm of ground clearance – 3mm more than the Ford Ranger Raptor and a healthy increase from the rest of the Amarok range's 235mm.
A black sports bar, soft tonneau cover, floor mats and special decals complete the 10 Deserts Edition treatment.
Other changes for the MY25 Amarok lineup include a 230V power socket in the tub of Style, PanAmericana and Aventura grades, facilitated by a 400W invertor that enables electrical appliances, laptops and battery packs to be plugged in.
The same model grades also now come with Trailer Assist as standard, which Volkswagen says has been updated to work more seamlessly with the Amarok's Rear Traffic Alert system.
There are no changes on the outside apart from a new Reed Green Metallic paint colour, which replaces Mid Blue Metallic on the Amarok colour chart.
Cab/chassis Core, Life and Style variants are fitted with a factory alloy tray measuring 1900mm long and 1835mm wide, with a 1650mm internal length, for an additional $4000 over their pickup equivalents.
A 243kg steel tray can also be added as a dealer-fit option instead of the alloy tray, which has an official weight of 132kg, and both tubs are covered by Volkswagen Australia's five-year, unlimited-kilometre new vehicle warranty.

EVs banned by global shipping company due to fire hazard
An international shipping company has banned electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) from its vessels after an onboard fire caused a rival company's ship to sink in the North Pacific Ocean earlier this year. Matson, a 104-year-old transport and services company based in the US state of Hawaii, confirmed it will no longer ship EVs or PHEVs across the Pacific Ocean – or any other sea. 'Due to increasing concern for the safety of transporting vehicles powered by large lithium-ion batteries, Matson is suspending acceptance of used or new electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles for transport aboard its vessels,' said a letter to customers from the company, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). 'Effective immediately, we have ceased accepting new bookings for these shipments to/from all trades.' CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Click here to get a great deal. Supplied Credit: CarExpert It's a blow not only for automakers but prospective buyers, with The Maritime Executive reporting figures from the Hawaiian Electric Vehicle Association that estimate around 37,000 of the 1.2 million-plus cars in Hawaii are EVs. Fires from vehicles with lithium batteries have unique characteristics, including rapidly reaching temperatures of up to 1000 degrees Celsius from 'thermal runway', as well as toxic-gas release, making them difficult to extinguish. In addition to vehicles themselves, fires have also quickly engulfed nearby cars and caused significant damage to buildings, as well as shipping vessels. According to The Maritime Executive, Matson had worked to overcome the difficulties, including forming the Electric Vehicle Safe Carriage Group to resolve the issue. Supplied Credit: CarExpert It worked on transport and stowage procedures for shipping EVs, and installing thermal imaging cameras to monitor temperature spikes indicating a fire. However, Matson said the ability to monitor and respond to EV and PHEV fires was hampered by their placement in shipping containers. 'Matson continues to support industry efforts to develop comprehensive standards and procedures to address fire risk posed by lithium-ion batteries at sea and plans to resume acceptance of them when appropriate safety solutions that meet our requirements can be implemented,' it said in the customer letter. In June, the 46,800-ton Morning Midas, carrying 3048 vehicles including 70 EVs and 681 hybrids, caught fire on route from China to Mexico. Supplied Credit: CarExpert The blaze caused the ship to be evacuated and then abandoned around 483km off the coast of Alaska, before recovery attempts were made. The makes and models of the vehicles on board were not disclosed. It was the third fire in a vessel with EVs on board, after the Fremantle Highway sank off the Portuguese coast in 2023 and the Felicity Ace was lost the previous year. Honda offers include eight-year warranty, thousands off hybrid SUVs
Honda Australia is once again offering an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and eight years of free roadside assistance, this time across its three-model SUV range. The offer includes all versions of the Honda HR-V small SUV and both the CR-V and ZR-V mid-size SUVs. But they must be purchased between July 1 and September 30, 2025, and the warranty coverage for vehicles used for commercial purposes is limited to 225,000km. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Click here to get a great deal. In effect, it means that all HR-V, ZR-V and CR-V vehicles purchased over the next two months will be backed by the Honda Extend warranty, which increases Honda's standard five-year, unlimited-km factory warranty by up to three years if a vehicle is serviced on time by an official Honda service centre. Commercial buyers are normally excluded from the Honda Extend program. In addition, to clear old stock Honda is also offering big discounts on certain 2024-built ZR-V and CR-V vehicles. MY24 examples of the flagship CR-V e:HEV RS hybrid are now available for $56,900 drive-away, representing a $3000 saving from its normal price of $59,900 drive-away. Buyers of 2024-built mid-range CR-V VTi L variants will receive a $2400 price reduction, from $49,300 to $46,900 drive-away. Similarly, MY24 examples of the smaller ZR-V e:HEV LX hybrid flagship are now $3000 cheaper at $51,900 drive-away (normally $54,900 drive-away). Additionally, all non-hybrid MY24 CR-V and ZR-V vehicles will come with a $500 e-Gift Card. MY25 starting prices remain unchanged at $34,900 drive-away for the HR-V, $37,900 drive-away for the ZR-V and $41,900 drive-away for the CR-V. Honda Australia currently only sells five models, including the Civic and Accord in addition to these three SUVs. Sales of all model lines were down in the first half of 2025, except for the HR-V which was up by 39 per cent, leading to a 7.3 per cent overall sales slide for the Japanese brand this year. While the third-generation HR-V was launched in Australia in April 2022, the first ZR-V was released here in June 2023 and its sales are down 27.7 per cent so far this year, and the sixth-generation CR-V was launched locally in September 2023 and its sales are down by 10 per cent to June 2025. The CR-V remains Honda Australia's best-seller with 3220 sales so far this year, positioning it behind the Toyota RAV4 (24,034 sales), Mazda CX-5 (11,591), Mitsubishi Outlander (11,399), Kia Sportage (10,558), Hyundai Tucson (10,272), Nissan X-Trail (8553), GWM Haval H6 (6909), Subaru Forester (6495), BYD Sealion 6 (4375) and BYD Sealion 7 (3756) in Australia's single biggest new-vehicle segment.
