Prince Harry says 'it breaks my heart' after solo journey without Meghan
Prince Harry's recent solo trip to Africa has led to him issuing a statement about his heartbreak on his official website.
The Duke of Sussex jetted to Angola last week to visit a minefield, following in the footsteps of his mother Princess Diana, who made her own famous visit to the previously wartorn state 28 tears ago.
Harry is not patron of Scots landmine clearance charity The Halo Trust, like Diana, and has spoken out about the challenges faced by Angolan youngsters living near to the largest minefield in Africa.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's official site has been updated to include his comments about the visit to the remote villages of Cuito Cuanavale and Mawano. Harry said: 'As a father to young children, it breaks my heart to see innocent children still living and playing next to minefields.
"All of us have a duty to protect children and future generations from the harms of war, both present and past."
He went on: "I urge all donors to stand with Angola in fighting the job. This is not just about landmines, it's about healing the last wounds of war and giving future generations the peace they deserve."
Harry described his visit as honouring his mother's "powerful legacy" and for her work which brought "global attention" to landmine sites and the fatal challenges they posed to people.
The Mirror reports an estimated 60,000 people have been killed or injured by landmines in Angola since 2008. The Halo Trust has stated it has cleared more than 120,000 landmines and 100,000 bombs from the country but in the past five years, the devices have killed at least 80 Angolans and more than 1,000 active minefields remain.
Diana was filmed in 1997, in footage that would become famous across the globe, as she walked through a minefield being cleared by the trust in the country, wearing a visor and vest for protection. Just months later, she would die in a car crash in Paris.
The Mirror reports Harry's solo jaunt to Africa came days after it was revealed that top aides for him and his father the King have met in London, with rumours now swirling that it was the first steps in a reconciliation between the pair.
Harry claimed in a BBC interview earlier this year that he was no longer on speaking terms with the monarch following a raft of high profile allegations against the Royal Family.
In his 2023 memoir Spare, he alleged that he'd been physically attacked by brother William, that the King was jealous of Meghan, and that he put his own interests above Harry's.

Audiences in Scotland are the biggest users of YouTube in the UK as younger viewers abandon traditional TV in favour of streaming, according to Ofcom. The regulator's annual study into the nation's media habits found that people in Scotland spent an average of five hours and four minutes per day watching TV and video content at home in 2024. While broadcast still accounts for 56% of viewing, streaming continues to rise – with YouTube now the second most-watched service in Scotland, behind BBC and ahead of STV/ITV1. Young adults are driving this shift. In 2024, people aged 16–24 watched just 33 minutes of broadcast TV per day, down from 41 minutes the year before. In contrast, adults aged 65+ watched an average of 344 minutes per day, highlighting a clear generational divide. Three in five Scots aged 4+ use the platform each week, spending an average of 44 minutes per day on it – 20 minutes of that on their household TV. Among younger adults (16–34), usage is even higher, with two-thirds accessing YouTube weekly. But it's not just Gen Z and Alpha driving this trend. Across all age groups (aged 4+), three in five people in Scotland are using YouTube each week, demonstrating the popularity of the service across generations. The content audiences are watching on YouTube has evolved too. The most popular content viewed on YouTube by adults and teenagers in Scotland was short videos under 15 minutes, while one in five (21%) reported watching full-length programmes or films on YouTube – a higher proportion than any of the UK's other nations. Some broadcasters are increasingly offering their own programmes on YouTube, for example ITV and Channel 4 make full-length programming available on their channels, allowing them to retain control over adverts. Glenn Preston, Ofcom's Scotland director, said: 'Scotland's television viewers are increasingly moving away from scheduled and linear television. 'Though public service broadcasters continue to serve audiences well – particularly for shared viewing moments – streaming platforms like Netflix are well and truly established in Scottish homes, with the platform having four out of ten of Scotland's most watched programmes or films in 2024 – as many as the BBC. 'Coupled with the growing popularity of short-form content on video-sharing platforms like YouTube, public service broadcasters will need to continue their work to meet their viewers in these online spaces where they spend an increasing amount of their time to ensure they can survive and continue producing content of value to audiences.' Despite this shift, broadcasters still play a crucial role in uniting audiences for major TV moments. BBC and STV/ITV claimed four of the five most-watched shows in Scotland last year. STV News at Six also retained its position as the most-watched news programme in Scotland for the sixth year running, with an average audience of 324,000 and a 30% share. Scotland's match against Switzerland at Euro 2024 (1.34 million) was the most watched programme in Scotland overall last year, followed by Gavin and Stacey: The Finale (1.26 million). The film Trolls (1.17 million), streamed on Netflix, came in third. The first episode of Mr Bates vs. the Post Office (1.09 million) on STV/ITV1 and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (1.03 million) rounded out the top five. Private Harry Johnson, 19, of the 2nd Infantry Training Battalion, collapsed and died following a physical training session with his unit at Vimy Barracks, Catterick, in North Yorkshire on Thursday. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up He had joined the Army just three months ago on April 13 but had "already proven himself to have enormous potential as a soldier", the MOD said in an emotional tribute. Lieutenant Colonel Ben Jesty, Commanding Officer of Harry's battalion, said: "We are heartbroken by the loss of Pte Harry Johnson from the Infantry family. "A proud and passionate future Paratrooper he represented the best of his generation. "Although early in his career he had already shown significant potential." Harry was a member of the Bruneval Platoon, Parachute Regiment Training Company within the battalion. He previously served much of his time with 3 Platoon, B Company in the 1st Infantry Training Battalion, even being awarded Best Shot within the unit upon completion of his Basic Training in July. In his touching tribute, Lt Col Jesty added: "Tipped to be a future P Company Champion, he was the kind of young soldier that the country needs: fit, determined, disciplined and selfless. "Vitally, he had the sense of humour to laugh at the eccentricities of Army life. "He was a credit to his friends and family to whom we offer our most heartfelt condolences at this awful time."
