Glasgow Times24-06-2025
David Cox Butchers, which currently operates two successful stores — one in Bridgeton and another in King's Park — announced the expansion on social media, citing growing demand from the Shawlands area.
The team said that, with both existing locations "going from strength to strength", they had seized the opportunity to expand.

The decision to open in Shawlands was influenced by the high volume of orders and regular customers already coming from the area.
In a Facebook post, the butchers wrote: 'We're absolutely thrilled to announce that David Cox Butchers is coming to Shawlands!
"With our Bridgeton and Kings Park shops going from strength to strength every single week, we've been given the opportunity to expand – and we couldn't say no!
"With so many loyal customers already travelling from Shawlands or receiving deliveries in and around the Shawlands area, it just made perfect sense.
"This is a huge step forward for us, and I wanted to personally be the first to share the news with you all.
"We'll be keeping everyone updated as we move closer to opening day, and yes – we are now hiring staff for our Shawlands shop!
"Thank you so much for the continued support – it's because of our amazing customers that this expansion is becoming a reality. We can't wait to welcome you all to Shawlands soon!'

The team also extended their gratitude to customers for their ongoing support.
In 2023, The Glasgow Times reported that George Gilmour, who runs David Cox Butchers in Bridgeton and King's Park, won Best Butcher in South Lanarkshire at the Scottish Business Awards.
The ceremony, held at Glasgow's Crowne Plaza Hotel, celebrated excellence within the industry.

This recognition followed a previous win for the Bridgeton store, which had been named Best Butchers in Glasgow. The King's Park branch earned its accolade just 16 months after opening.
Following the latest award, George said on social media:
In a statement on social media, George said: "So we've only gone and won the award.
"Sixteen months opened in King's Park and we've gone and won the best in South Lanarkshire Award.
"I'm so proud of every single one of my team. Can't believe we've gone and done it again.
"King's Park - Best Butchers in a South Lanarkshire. Bridgeton - Best Butchers in Glasgow.
"I'm not crying you are. Well done team."

Nationwide has issued a £300 warning to certain parents

During this cost-of-living crisis, mums and dads will reportedly have to spend over £300 on a back-to-school shop this year. Parents are expecting to spend £329 per child on back-to-school items, up £137 (70%) compared to last year. Over a third of parents (36%) claim that social media is to blame for influencing the list of 'must-haves' for schoolchildren, such as designer bags and insulated water bottles. To help parents ease the financial pressure of back-to-school shopping, money-saving expert Sue Hayward shares her tips. Whether you want to speak to a real person in branch, or do your banking online, there are many ways you can bank with us. If you need support, get in touch: — Nationwide (@AskNationwide) January 2, 2025 One parent, Sophie Wilson, who has one child aged five, told the building society: 'This year we'll be spending around £200 on back-to-school items, with school trainers and shoes topping the list. 'We're very fortunate that our school has a great second-hand clothing shop, run by the Parents' Association, so I tend to buy all my daughter's school-branded items from there and then supplement them with additional t-shirts and tights bought during the high-street sales. 'I've also found reselling apps such as Vinted to be a way to save. I've often bought school shoes from Vinted because they tend to be hardly worn. "Usually, a parent has just bought the wrong size or the child has suddenly had a growth spurt, and they come in at about 50% of the cost!' Sue said: 'Back to school is an expensive time of year as research shows some parents spend over £300 kitting their children out for the new school term. Recommended reading: "Pester power caused by social media trends can bring an added financial headache for families with one in three saying they feel under pressure to spend beyond their means. "Cash strapped parents can save by stocking up on basics like polo tops, jumpers and stationery with supermarket deals, and it's also worth looking for 'nearly new' uniform on sites such as Vinted and eBay. "With branded uniform, buying 'outgrown' items through the school or your local Facebook group can also help save money. And local councils may offer financial help with school uniform costs, depending on where you live.'

Clydebank pub Glenhead Tavern teases £290k transformation

The Glenhead Tavern, soon to be renamed The Duntocher, shut its doors in January 2025. However, the boozer is being undertaken by Heineken-owned Star Pubs and new licensee, Clydebank resident Brian Carnochan, who also runs The Grant Arms in Glasgow. The refurb is aiming to turn the shuttered venue into a 'top-notch, family-friendly' local which will dish up home-cooked food and specialise in sports and entertainment. Sharing the images on the social media platform, a spokesperson said: "The journey to remake the Glenhead Tavern is nearly complete. "The builders should be fully off-site this week. The new furniture has arrived. "We will begin the process of stocking everything and getting the place ready to open. "We will keep you updated as we go through this week." The revamp is expected to create 11 new jobs in the area. As part of the works, the outside of the pub will be painted a classic cream colour alongside a bright dark green. Previously, new licensee Brian Carnochan, said: 'I love seeing people having a good time. "I remember The Glenhead Tavern when it was a thriving local. Sadly, it's lost its way in recent years. "It's been much missed, and there's been a lot of concern for its future. "My aim is to restore it to its glory days when it was the place to go. The designs are spot-on, and it will look fantastic when the works are completed.'
