GMR Airports Ltd. is considering a ₹5,000 crore ($579 million) local-currency bond sale, according to people familiar with the matter, in what could be a record rupee issuance for India's second-largest private airport operator.
The New Delhi-based company is considering to raise the funds through a note due in 18-months to three years and will use the proceeds to refinance existing debt, one of the people said, asking not to be identified as the details are private. The firm may aim to price the securities at about 10.5 per cent, the person said.
The Economic Times earlier reported the company is looking to raise ₹5,700 crore.
The company is planning to tap the market as a cumulative 100-basis-point reduction by the central bank this year brings down borrowing costs. The fundraising underscores growth prospects for India's aviation sector and comes at a time when GMR is looking to expand its footprint in the country.
GMR, along with the country's largest airport operator Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., is expected to be among the top contenders as the government looks to privatize 11 airports. If the deal goes through, it will be GMR's largest-ever rupee offering, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. It has three local-currency bonds amounting to ₹5,000 crore maturing next year.
Care Ratings last month upgraded GMR Airports' loans and bonds to A from BBB+ and expects the firm's business to be supported by favorable outlook for the airport sector. GMR's unit Delhi International Airport Ltd. is also planning to issue ₹1,000 crore worth of bonds, according to people familiar with the matter.

Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) on Friday said that the board proceeded with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) despite a postponement request from Rani Kapur, late Chairman Sunjay Kapur's mother, based on legal counsel. In a stock exchange filing, the Haryana-based company said Rani Kapur is not a shareholder and no documents were signed or obtained from her by the firm. Now, in another update, Shareholders of auto components firm Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd have approved the appointment of Priya Sachdev Kapur as a non-executive director with the requisite majority. The company confirmed the decision in a filing to the BSE that was made in an Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place on July 25. Priya married Sunjay Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor's ex-husband, in 2017. According to Bloomberg, Sona Comstar had a market cap of Rs 2.9 lakh crore (Rs 290,000 crore). If you're wondering, what is Sona Comstar? Sona Comstar is a premier automotive technology company that produces electric vehicle components and drivetrain systems. Rani Kapur had written to the Board of Directors and Shareholders of Sona Comstar to refrain from the appointment of any Director(s) in the Company or any other Sona Group Company and further unconditionally defer the AGM, scheduled for her letter, Rani Kapur alleged she was coerced to sign some documents which are being misused to wrest control of the company and usurp the family legacy after her son's death. She stated that as per the 'Will' left behind by her late husband, Dr Surinder Kapur, the founder of Sona Comstar and the Sona Group, she is the majority shareholder in the company and thereby the only authority to represent the interests of the family in the company/Sona Group. 'It is unfortunate that while the family and I are still in mourning, some people have chosen this as an opportune time to wrest control and usurp the family legacy,' the letter said. The firm works in the components for electric and hybrid vehicles sector as a supplier of spare parts for global major automotive conglomerates like Tesla, Jaguar, and Land Rover. Sanjay Kapoor joined the board of Sona Comstar as a Director in 2006 and became Managing Director in 2015. During his time as Managing Director, Sanjay not only guided the company out of debt but established it in many territories including the USA, China, Serbia, and Mexico. He successfully listed the company stock on the stock exchange in 2019. According to Forbes, Sanjay Kapoor had a net worth of Rs 10,300 crore. He had luxury residences in Pali Hill (Mumbai), Emirates Hills (Dubai), and Mayfair (London), and owned luxury cars valued at Rs 25 crore. According to the official website of Sona Comstar, in 2015, Mr. Kapur assumed the role of Managing Director following the passing of his father and the Company's founder, Dr. Surinder Kapur. At a time when the Company was navigating significant financial challenges, he led its turnaround by stabilizing finances, expanding export business, and transforming its product portfolio from conventional differential gears to integrated electric vehicle driveline solutions. 'Under his chairmanship, Sona Comstar expanded its global footprint across India, the USA, Mexico, China, and Serbia, successfully listed on BSE Ltd. and the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., and entered future mobility domains such as sensors and software through the acquisition of a majority stake in Novelic, reads the website. There is often a question as to whether actress Karisma Kapoor will get a share from any inheritance? The answer is no. Karisma was given a settlement of Rs 70 crore at the time of her divorce. There were Rs 14 crore of bonds purchased in each of their children, Samaira and Kiaan's names. Additionally, she was given a monthly allowance of Rs 10 lakh. With those details in mind, there is very little chance she will benefit further from the property.

Rupee edges higher ahead of Fed-driven week; opens higher at 86.47/$

The Indian rupee eased on Monday following three consecutive weeks of decline ahead of major cues from the US Federal Reserve later this week. The domestic currency opened 4 paise higher near the one-month low mark of 86.47 against the dollar on Monday, according to Bloomberg. The local unit has depreciated 0.83 per cent so far this month and 1.01 per cent in this calendar year so far. The Indian rupee is expected to remain steady around 86.47 after the European deal, though India remains distant from a conclusive agreement, analysts said. Sentiments in the global equity market eased after the European Union (EU) signed a trade deal with the US that subjects most of the bloc's exports to 15 per cent tariffs, just ahead of this week's deadline. Meanwhile, the dollar index, a measure of the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, was down 0.12 per cent at 97.62. The market sentiment remains cautious amid upcoming global events and the August 1 tariff deadline set by US President Donald Trump, Bhansali said. "Exporters may consider selling near 86.60, while importers can look to buy around 86.40 today." Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have been pulling out, keeping the dollar well bid, with further rupee weakness likely to accelerate outflows. Global funds have been net sellers for five consecutive sessions with a net outflow of ₹1,979.96 crore on Friday. ALSO READ: The upcoming week will be a Fed-dominated one with key global events including the US Federal Reserve's FOMC rate decision, GDP data, and ADP Employment Change and Initial Jobless Claims lined up. Brent crude price was up 0.41 per cent at 68.72 per barrel, while WTI crude prices were higher by 0.35 per cent at 65.39, as of 8:55 AM IST. ALSO READ:

Anil Ambani's Reliance Group charts next phase of growth with focus on defence, renewables

New Delhi: Anil Ambani 's Reliance Group will focus on defence, power and clean energy sectors to chart the next phase of growth that will train resources on innovation and value creation, it said on Sunday. Just as financial crime-fighting agency, Enforcement Directorate concluded searches at locations linked to the group as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering and siphoning of public funds, over 100 top leaders from its two listed firms -- Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power -- convened in Mumbai on Sunday to reaffirm their commitment to its ambitious growth roadmap. "After the unanimous approval by the Board of Directors of Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power , just a week ago by both boards to raise Rs 18,000 crore by way of equity and debt to fund growth across defence and aerospace and renewable energy sectors, the meeting reflected unity of purpose, renewed vigour and a shared resolve to deliver long-term value for stakeholders," the group said in a press statement. The two listed firms in separate statements earlier in the day stated that the action by ED has concluded and that the company and its officials have fully cooperated with the authority. "Action by ED has no impact on business operations, financial performance, shareholders, employees, or any other stakeholders of the company," they said. In the statement on the leadership meeting, the group said its two listed companies -- Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power -- are "nearly debt-free, have net worths of Rs 14,883 crore and Rs 16,431 crore, respectively, and have 50 lakh public shareholders, one of India's largest shareholder family." The leadership meet, it said, spotlighted high-growth verticals driving the group's future strategy. Reliance Infrastructure's focus will be on defence and aerospace, which includes plans to manufacture Falcon 2000 business executive jets in India for global markets in partnership with Dassault Aviation of France, strategic partnership with US-based Coastal Mechanics to establish MRO and overhaul hub in Maharashtra, partnership with defence manufacturer Rheinmetall AG of Germany, and strengthening strategic partnership with Diehl Defence of Germany for guided munition/terminally guided munition (TGM). The "aim (is) to rank among India's top three defence exporters -- strong commitment to the Indian defence markets and ' Make in India ' and 'Atmanirbhar' initiative of the Government of India," it said. In the power business, its electricity distribution utility BSES that services more than 53 lakh households, covering two-thirds population in Delhi, will focus on continued excellence in smart, sustainable power delivery and sourcing clean green energy for Delhi in the next five years. In the renewable energy space, the group is focusing on solar and battery storage. Reliance Power is focused on an operating portfolio of 5.3 GW. It has secured renewable energy projects of 3.3 GWh of solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects, Asia's largest solar-plus-storage project. "Pursue your goals even in the face of difficulties, and convert adversities into opportunities -- the spirit of the group's legendary and visionary founder, Padma Vibhushan late Shri Dhirubhai H Ambani, resonated throughout the discussion," the statement added. While Reliance Infrastructure also has interests in defence manufacturing and plays a key role in infrastructure development through special purpose vehicles (SPVs), including projects like the Mumbai Metro, Reliance Power has a total installed capacity of 5,305 MW, including the 4,000 MW ultra mega power project in Sasan, Madhya Pradesh.
